These disadvantages have not heretofore been successfully overcome so far as I am aware.

It is, accordingly, one of the objects of thi'sin" vention to provide an undergarment is snug and smooth fitting, with a minimum: of material but without being subject to the above and other disadvantages commonly found in garments of this type.

Another object of the invention is to produce an undergarment, the leg portions of which are deeply notched or cut-out in the front but not on the sides.

A further object of the invention resides in an undergarment of extremely simple and inexpensive construction made up of a main portion, a front panel portion and a crotch portion.

A still further object of the invention is to produce an undergarment having a substantially horizontal or straight buttocks line.

Other and further objects of the invention will be understood and appreciated by those skilled in this art, or will be apparent or pointed out hereinafter.

In the accompanying drawings wherein I have illustrated preferred embodiments of the invention:

Fig. 1 shows an undergarment responding to this invention as it would appear during use in a semi-sitting position.

Fig. 2 is a front elevational view of the undergarment as it would appear when the wearer is in a standing position.

Fig. 3 is a side profile view of Fig. 2.

Fig. 4 is a rear elevational view of Fig. 2.

Fig. 5 is a front elevational view of a slightly different form of the undergarment.

Fig. 6 is a horizontal sectional view taken along line 6-6 of Fig. 5.

Figs. 7, 8 and 9 are, respectively, plan views of the main, front panel and crotch portions of material prior to assembly to form an undergarment in accordance with this invention.

The undergarment of Figs. I-4 and that of Figs. 5 and 6 are essentially the same, differing in minor particulars only. Each such undergarment is composed of: three portions; the main portion l t), the front panel portion il and the crotch-portion [2. The main portion it constitutes' the entire rear of the undergarment (-note Fig. and portions of the front thereof- (-note Figs. 2' and 5), so that no seams are required in the rear and hip portions. Main portion it also has a semi-circular cut-out l3 centrally of its lower edge, and somewhat beyond cut-out IS the material ascends steeply at an angle of about 45 to meet the vertical edges l4. Thus, when the piece of material of Fig. '7 is folded over parallel to its side edges 14', it constitutes tl-ie'ent'ire rear portion of the garment and parts of the side er-- tions. It also includes two upwardly and: inward 1y (when folded or irithe finished garment) extending oblique edges adapted to cooperate with similar edges 15 of panel portion i i, so as to form a pair of spaced, inverted V-shaped cut-outs in the front of the undergarment. The vertical edges I6 of portion ll match with vertical edges 14 of portion [0, as will be observed from Figs. 2 and 5 in particular, and are sewed or stitched together to form vertical seams ll. The upper edges of portions It and ll are finished by means of a waistband N3 of any suitable or known char acter such as shirred elastic.

From Fig. 8 it will be noted that the lower edge i9 of panel portion ii is concavely cut-out and that the width of the panel portion is less at the bottom than at the top. Concave lower edge 19 of portion llinterfits with convex edge 28 of crotch portion 12 and the other convex edge 2! of crotch portion l2 interfits with the cut-out is of main portion It. Crotch portion l2 has tapering side edges to provide a desired contour for the comfort of the wearer. The crotch portion is sewed or stitched in place, as will be understood from Figs. 2 and 5, to form the arcuate seams 22 and 23. This completes the undergarment except for desired trimming such as the edging 24 or the lace 25 or other utilitarian or ornamental accessory.

An undergarment made in accordance with this invention gives exceptional freedom of leg movement, due to the inverted V-shaped cut-outs in the front of the garment, without any undesired bunching or pulling of the material. A garment constructed as described contains a minimum of material and fits smoothly at all times so that it does not form visible bunches or ridges even under the sheerest of outergarments. The buttocks line always remains straight or fiat, thus being always comfortable and protective regardless of the position of the wearer in distinct contrast to prior types of undergarments.

The foregoing is intended as illustrative and not as limitative since other and further modifications thereof, may be made without departing from the spirit or principles hereof. The invention is rather that defined by the appended claims.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:

1. An undergarment comprising a main portion constituting the entire back and sides of such undergarment and extending from the waistline downwardly, its side edges diverging downwardly from about midway of its height, a panel portion secured between the side parts of the main portion above the points of divergence, its side edges converging downwardly from said points, a crotch portion secured at one end to said panel portion and at the other end to said main portion, the side edges of the front part of said crotch portion converging downwardly and constituting a continuation of the corresponding converging side edges of the respective sides of the panel portion, said converging and diverging edges bounding an inverted V-shaped out-out to overlie the front of each leg of a wearer with the apex of the V on the front center line of the leg.

2. An undergarment formed of three blanks, a first blank embodying a horizontal waistline edge, and two substantially vertical side edges extending down approximately half the height of the blank, downwardly converging edges extending respectively from the lower termini of said side edges to a horizontal bottom edge which has iii a centrally located concave edge; a second blank embodying a horizontal waistline edge which together with the waistline edge of the first blank completely encircles the waistline, vertical side edges which are coextensive with and seamed to the respective side edges of the first blank, downwardly converging edges extending respectively from the lower termini of said side edges of the second blank, and a concave bottom edge joining the terminals of said converging edges, the converging edges of the 1st and 2nd blanks opposing each other to provide an inverted V- shaped cut-out for overlying each leg of a wearer with the apex of the cut-outs lying on the front center line of each leg; and a third blank embodying a convex upper edge coextensive with and seamed to the concave edge of said first blank, downwardly converging side edges extending from the termini of the convex upper edge to about one-third of the height of said third blank, diverging side edges extending downwardly from the lower termini of said converging side edges to a convex lower edge whichjoins their lower termini; said lower convex edge being coextensive with and seamed to the lower concave edge of said second blank and the diverging side edges of said third blank being in line with and constituting a continuation of the corresponding converging side edges of the respective sides of the second blank.
