Description

S. SCHWARTZ snowman PAD Filed March 14, 1947 may Patented Apr. 20, 1948 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE SHOULDER PAD Soll Schwartz, Brooklyn, N. Y.
Application March 14, 1947, Serial No. 734,655
This invention relates to shoulder pads and more particularly to the wire reinforcing structure therein.
It is an object of the present invention to provide a wire reinforcing structure which is of triangular shape and which has a bracing strip extended between two sides of the frame and the bracing strip and which has the third side of the frame arched to any desired shape.
Other objects of the present invention are to provide a shoulder pad which is of simple construction, inexpensive to manufacture, and efficierit in operation.
According to the present invention, a wire frame is provided which is of triangular shape and there is disposed on this wire frame, between two sides thereof, a bracing strip; The bracing strip and the third side of the frame can be bent to shape the shoulder pad to the shoulder. The frame is covered with padding and an outer covering. A seam binding is extended around two sides of the covering. The frame can be formed by folding a single piece of wire and joining the ends at one corner of the triangle. The joined ends can be secured together by solder and the ends of the bracing strip can be secured to the sides of the frame by solder.
For further comprehension of the invention, and of the Objects and advantages thereof, reference will be had to the following description and accompanying drawing, and to the appended claims in which the various novel features of the invention are more particularly set forth.
In the accompanying drawing forming a material part of this disclosure:
Fig. 1 is a perspective view of the shoulder pad showing in dotted lines the frame embodying the features of the present invention.
Fig. 2 is a plan view of the shoulder pad.
Fig, 3 is a transverse cross sectional view taken on line 3-3 of Fig. 2 looking in the direction of the arrows thereof.
Fig. 4 is a plan view of a triangular frame formed according to the present invention without the bracing strip disposed thereon.
Fig. 5 is a modified form of frame where the bracing strip has been provided.
Fig. 6 is a cross sectional view taken on line 6-8 of Fig. 5 looking in the direction of the arrows thereof.
Referring now to the "figures, l5 represents a wire frame formed by bending a. wire at two locations to provide corners l6 and ii. The ends of this bent wire are then joined together, as indicated at i8, and connected by solder or the like.
.2 Claims. (C1. 2-268) Thereafter, a bracing strip I9 is extended across and connected to two sides, as indicated at 2| and 22. This connection is effected by use of solder. The frame can be used either with or without the bracing strip IS. The bracing strip can also be bent along with the third or parallel side thereof, as shown more clearly in Fig. 3. Extended over the wire frame is padding material 23 and over this padding material, there are extended top and bottom covering surfaces 24 and 25. These covering strips can be formed of one piece and the same taken up, as indicated at 26, to shorten the width of the material on the under side, as when the frame has been bent to conform to the shoulder. Around the front sid of the covering, there is extended a tape binding 21. This binding will extend about the point, as indicated at 2B, and
thence rearwardly therefrom to the rear end of the pad. The third side of the triangle frame is bent upwardly in the center, as indicated at 3|.
While I have illustrated and described the preferred embodiments of my invention, it is to be understood that I do not limit myself to the precise constructions herein disclosed and the right is reserved to all changes and modifications coming within the scope of the invention as defined in the appended claims.
Having thus described my invention, what I I claim as new and desire to secure by United States Letters Patent is:
1. A shoulder pad comprising a triangular shaped wire frame of three sides, one of said sides of the triangle being arched, padding material extending over the same, a covering over the padding material and said covering secured along its side to enclose the padding and the frame, a brace extending between two sides of the frame and spaced forwardly of the arched side of the frame, said brace being arched similarly to the curved side whereby the shoulder pad will better conform to the shoulder and a stronger frame will be provided.
2. A shoulder .pad having an approximately triangular shape and including an outer envelope fabric and padding material and provided with an arched upper surface, and a triangular wire frame disposed in the padding and having a base side disposed in approximately parallel relation to the base side of the padding and envelope and formed with a V-shaped bend to arch the central portion of said base side to a point contiguous to the highest point on the arched padding and envelope with the outer ends of said base side disposed near the bottom of the padding and lower side of the envelope, the triangular wire frame having 2,440,121 7 3 l a. cross time be: connecting oonverlinz sides of the irame and disposed in approximately parallel file of this pate 388,182
