Description

No. 23o,s-8. Patented Aug. 3,1880.
ham %m NITED STATES ATENT OFFICE SECTIONAL STEAM-GENERATO R.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 230,818, dated August 3, 1880,
Application filed January 14, 1880.
To all whom tt may concern Be it known that I, DAVID RENSHAW, of the town of Gohasset, in the county of Norfolk and State of Massachusetts, have in vented certain Improvements in Sectional Steam-Generators, which inproveinents are fully described in the following specification and accon'anying' drawings.
My invention consists in an improved sectional steam generator so constrncted that the sections will set above the fire; or, if requisite, some ot' them ina-y be placed beyond the fire, and the heated gases passed through such gencratorsorsectio s. Thisisespeoiallyforhouseheating purposes, though i t may well be applied for power; and one ot'its features consists in the 'fact that all the joints are securely protected from the direct heat of the fire; and another feature is that a perfectcirculation ot' the wa ter is secured.
Each section is constructed with a pipernnning somewhat in the form of a parallelograin, and having curved pipes D, leading froni the lower portion, A. to the side portions, 0, and top portion, B, as shown, the pipes being curved at their bends to adnit ot' a free circulation of water. This construction exposes the small qunntity ot' water in the lower pipe to the direct leat ot' the fire, and allows the heated gases to pass up between the sections and come in contact with the other portions of the sections; and it aii'ords a large upper water body from which the steain can be evaporatcd while the water is being rapidly circulated.
In the drawings, Figure 1 shows a front View D I). pipes curved to adnit ot' expansion and 40 contraction and circulation, connecting the pipes A with the pipes B and C.
E is a pipe energing froni one side of the pipe A, and fitted with fianges, so that all ot' the pipes A may be bolted together at their lower parts and the pipe E will serve to feed and to blow ofi' the sections.
G is a steani-pipe or drum, i'langed in the ordinary way to bolt the upper portions of the sections together, and arranged to take the steani from each section and pass it to its work.
Having thus described ny invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Lettes Patent, is
A steani generator conposed of sections, 5 5
each section consisting ot' a coutinuous pipe, A, B, and U C, the lower portion, A, being small and horizontal, the side portions, G C, being Vertical and tapering, and the upper portion, B, large and horizontal, said pipe being curved at its bends and having curved pipes D D, connecting the partA with the parts B and (J, said sections being connected together by fiangs upon the steam-drun Gr and feed-pipe E, all substautally as described.
DAVID RENSHAW.
