E. BOERSOH.
Horse Bonnet.
No. 237,473. Patented Feb. 8,1881.
N- PETERS, FHOTO-LITHOGRAPHER, WASHINGTON. Dv c.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
EDUARD BOERSOH, OF DAVENPORT, IOWA.
HORSE-BONNET.
SPECIFICATION forming To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, EDUARD BOERSOH, of Davenport, Scott county, Iowa, have invented a new Device for Protecting the Horses Head Against the Rays of the Sun and I do hereby declare that the following is a full and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the figures and letters of reference marked thereon.
My invention relates to an improved horsebonnet for protecting the heads of horses from the direct rays of the sun; and the novelty consists in the construction and arrangement of parts, and in a means for adjusting or turning the bonnet to accommodate different relations, as will be more fully hereinafter set forth, and specifically pointed out in the claim.
The standards which support the bonnet are usuallyarranged one upon each side of the head of the horse and secured within the loops of the bridle or headstall. In such cases the bonnet has an arbitrary position, and, bearing upon only one standard upon each side, necessarily is insecure and troublesome.
The object of my invention is to furnish duplex standards upon each side, and to allow of adj ustability in any direction by means of the friction between the standards and the loop of the headstall. This object I accomplish by 0 the mechanism illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 represents a side elevation, and Fig. 2 a bottom view of my improved bonnet.
The letter A indicates the headstall; B, the
bifurcated rear standard, and O the vertical standards which support the bonnet D. The
part of Letters Patent No. 237,473, dated February 8, 1881. Application filed August 17, 1880. (No model.)
said standards pass through differentially-arranged staples c d, and are secured to the bonnet by means of the parts a b, and are adapted to be adjusted through the loops of the headstall and turned either forward or backward or toward either side, so that the bonnet will protect the eyes or brain of the animal, and the construction is such, in relation to the headstall, that the standards will be held in any desired position by the friction of the loops.
Various modifications may be made without departing from the principle or sacrificing the advantages of my invention.
In practice I coat the shade or bonnet with two or more washings of pipe-lead, :and also line the same with cotton cloth, as I have discovered that such construction of bonnet tends materially to render the bonnet more com pletely non-conductive of the suns rays.
It will be observed that the essential elements of this invention .lie in the adjustability of the bonnet, the duplex bearing standards, and the peculiarly treated bonnet. I
Having thus described my invention, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is- The horse-bonnet herein described, consisting of the shade D, the standards B 0, having differential fastenings a b c d, and headstall A, all combined, constructed, and arranged to serve adjustably, as herein set forth.
EDUARD BOERSUH.
