2 Claims.
This invention relates to cardboard receptacles.
An object of this invention is to provide a box which can bestamped from a blank and which when assembled is sealed. The box is so constructed that a pair of overlapping end flaps are normally adhesively secured together in a position outside of and overlapping the hinged end yclosure so that access cannot be had to the contents of the box without cutting or tearing off the overlapping end flaps. When the box is unsealed the contents are protected by closing and locking of the closure.
Another object of this invention is to provide a sealed box or receptacle which when unsealed can be subsequently opened and reclosed a-number of times, the closure -providing an eiective protection for the contents of the box.
To the foregoing objects and others which may-hereinafter appear, the invention consists of the novel construction, combination and arrangement of parts as will be more specifically referred to and illustrated in the accompanying drawing, whereiniis shown an embodiment of the invention, but it is to be understood that changes, modifications and variations may be resorted to which fall within the scope of the invention as claimed.
In the drawing:
Figurel is a. plan view of a blank box co structed according to an embodiment of this invention,
to `be lbent at right angles to the iront wall I0 along the dotted line I5. The rear wall |,I is adapted to be bent at right angles to the side wall I2 along the dotted line I6, the forward edge of the rear wall I6 being extended in the direction of the adjacent edge I1 of the side wall I3. The rear wall 'II is formed with an elongated narrow ap I8 which is provided with an adhesive |9 on one face thereof, the ap I8 being bent at right angles to the wall II along the dotted line 20. The nap I9 is adapted to be positioned on the inner side of the side wall I3, as shown in Figure 4, being adhesively secured to the inner side of'wall I3 so as to thereby hold the box in assembled position.
' The box generally designated as B, which is formed by the blank shown in Figure 1, includes a bottom wall construction which in the form shown is formed oi' superposed layers of substan` tially square flaps. The front wall I0 is provided with a bottom flap 2| which is adapted to be bezit Figure 2 is a perspective view of the box in includes a front wall III, a rear wall II, and opposite side walls I2 and I3. The several walls I0. II, I2 and I3 are rectangular in configuration' and are adapted to be bent or folded to form a box which is substantially square in transverse section but rectangular in side or front elevation.
The side wall I3 is adapted to be bent or folded at right angles to the front wall IIl along the dotted line I4, and the side wall I2 is adapted along the dotted line 22, 'thewall :2| as shownin Figure 3 being the lower or outermost ply. The side Wall I2 is formed with a bottom wall flap 33 adapted to be bent at right angles to the wall I2 along the dotted line 24. The side wall I3 is alsoI provided with a. bottom wall ap 25 which is .bentalong the dotted line 26. It will be understood the square iiaps referred to can be other than square.
The rear wall II has formed integral therewith a bottom wall forming nap 2'I which is bent along the dotted line 28 and as shown in Figure 3, the bottom forming flap 2'| is adapted to be interposed between the two flaps 23 and 25. The ap 25 which confronts the outer lower ap 2| is adhesively secured as at 29 to the upper inne side of the flap 2 I.
A lid or closure 30 is hinged as indicated at 3| to the upper edge of the rear wall I andl is provided with a locking` tongue 32. The lid 301s adapted to extend over the upper end ofthe box B and the tongue 32 is adapted to be extended through an elongated slot 33 which is formed in the front wall IIJ adjacent the upper edge thereof. `The side wall I2 has formed integral theref -with a top wall forming ilap 34, the nap 34 being connected to the upper edge of the side wall I2 by means of a score or tear line 35. The opposite side wall I3 has formed integral therewith a flap 36 which is smaller in size than the ilap 34 and is provided on its upper side with adhesive 31. The flap 38 is connected to the upper edge of the side wall I3 by means of a score or tear line 38,
In the assembled position of the box, the bottom aps 2|, 23, 25 and 21 are folded inwardly at right angles to the side, rear and front walls and the outermost ap 2i adhesively secured to the ap 25. The contents of the box may be inserted therein whereupon the lid 30 is swung over the upper open end of the box and the tongue 32 is threaded through the slot 33. The flap 36 is then swung inwardly to overlap the upper side of the lid 30, the adhesive 31 being uppermost and then the outer ap 3 4 is swung into overlapping position on top of the flap 36, th adhesive 31 firmly securing the flap 34 and sealing the container.
When it is desired to open the box, the tongue 32 may be pulled outwardly of the slof; 33 and the tongue 32 then used as a handle and the lid raised. Raising of the lid 30 will cause .the flaps 34 and 36 to be torn along the t'ear lines 35 and 38, respectively, and as the flaps 34 and this manner the contents of the box will not be come soiled by foreign matter entering the box after the latter has been unsealed. It is contemplated that this box be made out of cardboard or other suitable brous material, the box being particularly made for holding medicated gauze or other hospital supplies which are to be kept unsoiled after the original container has been unsealed.
What I claim is:
1. A box comprising front, rear and opposite side walls, a bottom wall, a lid hinged to said rear wall, a tongue carried by said lid, said front wall having a slit therein whereby said tongue may be threaded through said slit to hold said lid in closed position, and tearable lid sealing members carried by said side walls and extending transversely across said lid,. saidfsealing members being adhesively secured together in overlapping relation to each other extero'rly of said lid.
2. A box comprising front, rear and opposite side Walls, a longitudinal flap carried by said rear Wall adhesively secured to one of said side walls, overlapping bottom wall forming ilaps carried by said front, rear and opposite side walls, a lid `hinged to said rear wall, a tongue carried by the front edge of said lid, said front-wall having a slit adjacent the upper edge threofjwhereby said tongue may be threaded through lsaid slit, a pair of top iiaps tearably carried b y said side walls and initially overlapping said Alid to hold the lid in sealed and closed position, and adhesive means' securing said top flaps together in overlapping relation relative to each other, raising of said lid to unsealed and open position eifecting severance of said top flaps from said side Walls whereby said top flaps will separate from said side Walls and said lid.
