UNITED STATES PATENT Fries,
ERASTUS S. PALMER, OF FARIBAULT, MINNESOTA.
ADJUSTABLE SCAFFOLD-CLAM P.
SPECIFICATION formingpart of Letters Patent No. 236,616, dated January 11, 1881.
Application filed June 12, 1880.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ERASIUS S. PALMER, of Faribault, in the county of Rice and State of Minnesota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Adjustable Scaffold- Glamps; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, in which the figure is a perspective view of an adjustable scaffoldclamp embodying my improvements.
This invention has relation to adjustable scaffold-clamps; and it consists in the improved features of construction and combination hereinafterfully described, and particularly pointed out in the claim.
Referring by letter to the accompanying drawing, A designates a section of one of the uprights of a scaffold.
D designates a claw having dog I), guard o, and straps or arms a a, formed in one piece with the claw, and perforated at a a for the reception of a through-bolt, e, by which the clamp is adjustably secured to the upright A.
D designates a joist, one end of which rests upon the clamp 0, between the guard c and the upright A. W'eight upon joist D causes the clamp to vibrate on the bolt 0 as a pivotal point and the (log I) to bite the upright A, and
(No model.)
this construction there can be no tendency of the supporting bracket or claw to swing laterally. Absolute security is thus afforded in this class of clamps.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, is
In an adjustable scaffold-clamp, the claw D,
having dog I), guard c, and prolonged arms a a, perforated at a a, made in one piece, in combination with the removable bolt 0, substantially as and for the purposes set forth.
In testimony that I claim the above 1 have hereunto subscribed my namein the presence of two witnesses.
ERASTUS S. PALMER. Witnesses:
JOHN M. HUNTER, JOSEPH 0. Mom).
