To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, EMMET P. PUTNAM, of La Ohurche, in the parish of St. Bernard, and in the State of Louisiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bottles; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanyingdrawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, making a part of this specification.

My invention has for its object to provide a bottle whereby the contents may be conveniently and accurately removed, drop by drop, as more fully hereinafter specified. This bject I attain by the means illustrated in the accompanying drawings.

To enable those skilled in the art to make and use my invention, I will proceed to describe its construction and operation.

Figures 1 and 2 represent longitudinal sections, Fig. 1 representing the bottle without the cork, and Fig. 2 representing it with cork inserted.

A represents the bottle, which is made in any of the well-known ways and forms. 13 represents the neck of the bottle, which has formed at one side of its mouth and communicating with same a conical cup or nipple, C. The bottle is cut away from its mouth on one side to the outer edge of the mouth of the cup 0, leaving a lip, 0, whereby the contents of the bottle may be discharged, as in an ordinary bottle, and leaving the configuration of the bottle at the lllOlltll of the cup such that the stopper may be made to close the cup to a greater or less extent in order to admit air in proper quantities to the cup, to accurately regulate the dropping. provided at its outer end or apex with a small orifice, d, but sufficiently large to allow liquids from the cup to pass through it in drops.

D represents the cork of the bottle, which, when inserted, not only closes the neck of the bottle, but also the mouth of the conical .cup. Of course, this month is made concave or in shape of the mouth of the neck.

The operation of this invention is clearly exhibited in Fig. 1. In this figure the liquid is seen in the bottle, in the cup, and the drops are seen falling from the orifice (I. As the stopper D, when pushed fully in, closes the mouth of the cup 0, it is evident that by withdrawing the stopper to a greater or less extent the quantity of air admitted to the cup may be regulated so as to accurately control the dropping of the liquid. This. it will be observed, is a sure and secure method of administeringmedicines by drops.

Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

The I1616l11-(l880l'lb6tl bottle, having a conical cup at its mouth capable of holding a quan tity of liquid, and provided with an orifice throughwhich liquid may escape drop by drop, the bottle being cut away at its mouth, as described, leaving a seat at'the mouth of the cup that may be closed to a greater or less extent by the stopper, as desired, substantially as and for the purposes specified.
