Description
J. M. ROBERTSON. Bale-Tie.
No. 212,984- Patenfe'd Mar. 4, 1879.
ATTORNEY NAPETERS, FROTO UTMQGMPHER, WAsmNGrO m DV (:4
. UNITED STATES PATENT FFIGE.
JOSEPH M. ROBERTSON, OF DIRT TOWN, GEORGIA.
IMPROVEMENT IN BALE-TIES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No- 2l2,984, dated March 4, 1879; application filed January 28, 1879.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOSEPH M. ROBERT- SON, of Dirt Town, in the county of Ohatooga and State of Georgia, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bale-Ties; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, which will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
Figure l is a view, in perspective, of my improved bale-tie, and Fig. 2 is an end view of same.
This invention has relation to improvements in bale-ties and it consists of certain improvements in the construction of the same, hereinafter more fully described, and particularly pointed out in the claim.
In the accompanying drawings similar letters of reference indicate like parts of the invention.
A is a base, provided with a pair of short arms, B and B, and a pair of longer arms, 0 and O. The arms 0 and O are provided with teats c c, projecting inwardly.
The operation is as follows: The band D is placed around the compressed bale and one end bent back upon itself. The arm 0 of the tie is theninserted in the loop thus formed, and the other end, D, of the band is drawn down and under the arm 0, then bent back under the short arm, B, secure. The teats c c prevent the band from slipping off, and the arms B B prevent the loops from unbending.
The utility and great convenience, as well as the simplicity and rapidity of adjustment, of this invention will readily be seen, and require no further description.
Having thus described my invention and the operation of the same, what I claim as new and useful, and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, is
In a bale-tie, the base A, having the short arms B and B, and the longarmsO and O, having projecting guards c c, in combination with the bale-band B, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I aflix my signature in presence of two witnesses. v
. JOSEPH M. ROBERTSON.
