My invention relates to tags and means thereon for attaching the same to garments; and it consists in the novel features which are hereinafter described.

One of the objects of my invention is to produce a tag with a means thereon for securely attaching the same to a button on a garment.

Another object is to eliminate metal piercing tongues or pins from the said attaching means.

A further object is to have the said tag readily detachable from a garment.

A still other object is to have said tag and the said attaching means thereon simple, durable and inexpensive.

Other objects and advantages will hereinafter appear.

I attain these objects by the tags and means thereon for attaching the same to garments, which are illustrated in the accompanying drawing or by any mechanical equivalents and obvious modifications of the same.

In the drawing Fig, 1 is a front view in elevation of one form of my tag and attaching means thereon; and Fig. 2 is a section on the line 22 of Fig. 1.

Fig. 3 is a front view in elevation of another form of my tag and. attaching means thereon.

Fig. 4 is a front view in elevation of a still other form of my tag and attaching means thereon; and Fig. 5 is a section on the line 5-5 of Fig. 4. r

Fig. 6 is a fragmentary front View in elevation of part of a garment having attached thereto a tag such as shown in Figs. 1 and 2; and Fig. 7 is a section on the line I'I of Fig. 6.

The thickness of the tag and attaching means thereon is shown as exaggerated in Figs. 2, 5 and 7 of the drawing.

Similar numerals refer to similar parts throughout the several views.

In the form of my tag and attaching means thereon, which are shown in Figs. 1 and 2, Il designates a fabric tag which has therein one slot I2 which is shown as disposed longitudinally with relation to the tag and another slot I3 which is shown as disposed transversely to the tag II. The slots I2 and I3 are shown in Fig. 1 as placed some distance apart from each other and. disposed substantially at right angles to each other; but they may also be inclined to each other if desired. The tag II may have the slots I2 and I3 formed therein by punching in a suitable press.

The tag II may be folded over on itself as shown in Figs. 6 and '7, and the slots I2 and I3 then serve to pass therethrough a button I4 of a garment I5, to which the tag II is to be connected, as shown in Figs. 6 and 7.

The position of the slots I2 and I3 transversely to each other is conducive to security of the connection of the tag to the button of a garment.

In the modification of my tag and attaching means thereon which is shown in Fig. 3 the tag 2I is provided with a longitudinally disposed buttonhole 2222a. and a transversely disposed button hole 23--23a. instead of the slots I2 and. I3.

The buttonhole 22-2211. consists of a slit 22 and an aperture 220.; and the buttonhole 23-230. consists of a slit 23 and an aperture 23a. Otherwise this modification does not differ in any way from that shown in Figs. 1 and 2.

In the modification shown in Figs. 4 and 5 the tag 3I is provided with slots I2 and I3 as in Figs. 1 and 2, and in addition to that with a layer of an adhesive 36, preferably of a sort which adheres without the application of moisture; the layer 36 is shown as encompassing the slot I3; but it may also be arranged to encompass the slot I2 or both of the slots I2 and I3, if desired.

The application of the adhesive 36 provides additional security for the said connection.

The sizes of the slots I2 and I3 or of the buttonholes 22-22a and 23--23a may be different than as shown and may vary to suit the different sizes of buttons on sundry garments to which the tags may be connected.

The adhesive 36 may be used also with the modification of my tag and attaching means thereon which is shown in Fig. 3.

Variations are possible, and parts of my invention may be used without other parts.

I do not, therefore, restrict myself to the details as shown in the drawing. 35

I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent: 1. A tag and a means thereon for attaching the same to a garment, said tag having therein a pair of elongated openings spaced from each other 40 and lying entirely within the tag, for passing therethrough a button of a garment, whereby to connect said tag to a garment, said openings being disposed substantially transversely to each other, the ,said. disposition of the openings serving to 45 securely keep said tag attached to said garment.

2. The elements of claim 1, said openings consisting of slots punched in said tag and spaced a suitable distance apart.

3. The elements of claim 1, said openings con- 50 sisting of bnttonholes formed in said tag and spaced a suitable distance apart.

4. The elements of claim 1 combined with a layer of adhesive on said tag adjacent one of said openings, whereby to provide additional security to the said connection.
