Description

MASK FOR STENCILING Patented June 6, 1939 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE 2,161,030 MASK FOR STENCILING Anton Fischer, North Bergen, N. J. Application December 17, 1937, Serial` No. 180,332
This invention relates 2 Claims.
to devices used in dec- One of the objects of the invention is to provide a mask having open Spaces of any desired fanciful configuration and shaped in whereby it may be held firmly,
conformity erated upon. provide means, integral and surface upon which the the provision of means Whereby the mask may be attached or released in a readily convenient m annel'.
These desirable objects are accomplished by the novel construction and arrangement of the parts of a single blank of suitable material as hereinafter described and illustrated in the accompanying drawing, constituting an important part of this disclosure,
and in which:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of an embodiment of the invention illustrating its application. Figure 2 is a transverse sectional view taken a substantially on line 3-3 of Figure 1.
Figure 3 is a top plan view of the mask in detail.
Referring to the drawing in greater detail, a
ing a cylindrical side terminating in a beadin ll united thereto and g 12 at its.lower edge.
The invention comprises a blank shaped to prely on the upper surface sent a central crown portion 15 suited to of the can top Il), and
provided with a plurality of openings IB of any fanciful shape whatever, these openings constituting, in effect, a stenci great force, as by a cur and in order to obtain clear,
in the stencil, the edges of the openfigures cut l of the desired pattern.
It will be understood that the grains of sand or other abrading material used, are hurled with rent of compressed air, sharp outlines of the 45 ings Hi must make intimate contact with the surface of In the present inventi the object to be embellished.
on this is accomplished by forming the blank to produce two or more extensions I'l reaching from the perimeter of the mask, these extensions being shown -as generally triangular and bent at right angles to closely hug the side wall H. f
At the lower extremities of these extensions are clips IB adapted to engage the heading l2 at spaced intervals, thereby confining the mask upon the surface of the cap HI.
When in Operation the sand blast is directed 10 in the usual manner upon the cap and it will be apparent that the designs made in the mask will be transferred to its surface, while the masked portions of the cap will remain untouched by the blast due to the interposition of the mask.
The clips [8, being more or less resilient, are easily applied and removed, and it is to be noted that these clips are so designed as to impinge on the lower portion of the beading, thus drawing the mask firmly onto the cap.
Although the foregoing is generally descriptive of the best known form of the device, it will be apparent that any shape of object, round or otherwise, may be treated in a similar manner, and furthermore, such changes'and modifications may be made as may come within the scope of the appended claims.
I-Iaving thus described the invention, what is claimed as new and sought to Secure by Letters Patent, is:
1. In a sand blast mask, a blank having figural design openings and adapted to closely fit the surface of the object to be sand blasted, integral eX- tensions arranged in spaced relation along the edge of said blank and arranged to closely fit the side wall of the object, and means at the end' of said extensions 4to resiliently contact the lower edge of the object.
2. In a sand blast mask, a blank having figural design openings and adapted to lie flat and smooth 40' upon the surface of the object to be ornamented, said object having a bead at its lower edge, spaced projections on the edge of the blank bent to engage the side walls thereof, and spring clips at the ends of said projections to engage the lower edge of the object.
ANTON FISCHER.
