Description

PIE 2, i936. N. FARINELLA SAFETY CIGAR COVER Filed May 16, 1955 INVENTOR MCOLA Riz/NELLA ATTORNEY v Patented Apr. 21, 1936 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE SAFETY CIGAR COVER Application May 16,
2 Claims'.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in a safety cigar cover.
The invention has for an object the construction of a device as mentioned which is characterized by a hollow ireproof container of cigar shape and consisting of a body section and a cap section having inter-engageable ends for holding the cover closed.
A feature of the invention resides in the fact that ,a cigar which has only been partially smoked may be stored within the safety cigar cover and saved for future use.
A further object of the invention is an arrangement whereby one of the sections is formed with a bead controlling the inter-engagement of the sections when the cover is closed.
Still further the invention proposes the association of a clip with the safety cigar cover So that it may be clipped upon the material of ones pocket and assist in preventing accidental loss.
Still further the invention contemplates the provision of a removable and replaceable lining within the safety cigar cover for sanitary purposes.
A further object of the invention is the provision of finger elements upon the lining and adapted to coact with certain Vopenings and hollows upon portions of the safety cigar cover by which the lining is replaceably held in position.
Another object is the construction of an article as described which is simple and durable and which can be manufactured and sold at a reasonable cost.
For further comprehension of the invention, and of the objects and advantages thereof, reference will be had to the following description and accompanying drawing, and to the appended claims in which the various novel features of the invention are more particularly set forth.
In the accompanying drawing forming a material part of this disclosurez Fig. 1 is a perspective view of a safety cigar cover constructed according to this invention.
Fig. 2 is a sectional view taken on the line 2--2 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is a. side elevational View of a safety cigar cover constructed according to another embodiment of the invention.
Fig. 4 is a perspective view of the cap portion of a safety cigar cover constructed accordingjto a still further embodiment of the invention.
Fig. 5 is a sectional view taken on the line 5-5 of Fig. 4.
Fig. 6 is a` bottom elevational view of Fig. 5.
1935, serial No. 21,783 (Cl. 20c-41) Fig. 7 is a similar view to Fig. 2, but illustrating a modified form of the invention.
The safety cigar cover, according to this invention, comprises a hollow fire proof container I0 of cigar shape and consisting of va body section Illa and a cap section I 0b having inter-engageable ends I Il and I0, respectively, for holding the cover closed. The end I Il" has an exterior diameter adapted to t the interior diameter of the end I0. One of the sections forming the container has .a circumferential bead I I spaced in slightly from the end thereof and adapted to limit the inter-engagement of the sections. 'Ihe exterior of the container is imprinted or engraved with an ornamental design I2.
In Fig. 3 a modification of the invention has been disclosed wherein a hollow reproof container IU is illustrated and which distinguishes from the preferred form in the provision of a clip I3 by which it may be clipped upon the material of ones pocket.
More particularly, the clip I3 is attached upon the clip section Ib of the safety cigar cover. The container I0 is inscribed, imprinted or engraved with an ornamental design I2. In other respects, this form of the invention is identical to the previous form and corresponding parts may be recognized by the identical reference numerals.
In Figs. 4 6 inclusive another embodiment of the invention has been disclosed which distinguishes from the prior forms by the provision of a removable and replaceable lining I5 arranged in the cap` section IIJb. This lining, preferably, should be of flexible fire-proof material, or paper. The edge of the cap section IIIb is formed with a pair of diametrically opposite openings I6 having enlarged base portions Ilia. The material of the end I0 immediately below the base portions I6a of the openings is bent or concaved inwards, as clearly shown in Fig. 5 of the drawing. The lining I5A has a pair of diametrically opposite finger elements I5a of a width corresponding with the Ywidth of the base portions I of the openings I6. The arrangement is such that the finger elements I5a may be forced through the openings I6 until they reach positions in the base openings Ilia. They serve to hold the lining against displacement. The finger portions I5a are adapted to engage within the hollows beneath thev base portion I6a of the openings so that the outer faces of the fingers, when bent downwards are ush with the surface of the end I0". Thus, there is no obstruction to the proper engagement of the cap section upon the body section of the cigar cover.
In Fig. '7 the body section Illa and the cap section Il)b are shown joined with threaded interengageable ends Il)c and 10d, respectively.
It is to be understood that the size, shape and material of safety cigar cover may be changed as desired.
In use, a cigar may be carried safely in ones pocket when housed within the safety cigar cover. The cigar may be smoked for any period of time, and if not entirely consumed may be temporarily stored in the safety cigar cover.
While I have illustrated and described the preferred embodiment -of my invention, it is to be understood that I do not limit myself to the precise construction herein disclosed and the right is reserved to all changes and modications coming within the scope of the invention as dened in the appended claims. l
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, an-d desire to secure by United States Letters Patent is:-
1. A safety cigar cover, comprising a hollow nre-proof container of cigar shape and consisting of a body section and a cap section having inter-engageable ends for holding the cover closed, and a removable and replaceable 1ining within the cap section of said cover, said lining having a pair of finger portions upon the edge thereof engaging through openings formed in from the edge of the cap section and .disposed within enlarged base portions of said openings, and the material of the cap section immediately below the enlarged base portions of the openings being concaved inwards to form hollows in which said finger portions are engaged.
2. A safety cigar cover, comprising a hollow fire proof container of cigar shape, and consisting of a body section and a cap section having inter-engageable ends for holding the cover closed, and a removable and replaceable lining within the cap section of the cover, said lining having a pair of finger portions upon the edge thereof engaging through openings formed in from the edges of the cap section, and the material of the cap section immediately below said openings being concaved inwards to form hollows in which said nger portions are engaged.
