- The disclosure relates to drain devices and more particularly pertains to a new drain device for inhibiting kitchen utensils from falling into a garbage disposal. The device includes an annular ring that is insertable into a drain in a sink and a lip extending around the annular ring to inhibit the annular ring from falling into the drain. the device includes a funnel integrated into the annular ring which has a diameter sufficiently small to inhibit kitchen utensils from falling into a garbage disposal attached to the sink.
- The prior art relates to drain devices including a guard for a garbage disposal that includes a foraminous disk and a tower extending upwardly from the foraminous disk. The prior art discloses a variety of expandable drain stopper devices that is each insertable into a drain and expands to be retained in the drain. The prior art discloses a sink deodorizer that includes a foraminous disk that is insertable into a drain and a centering post extending through the foraminous disk.
- An embodiment of the disclosure meets the needs presented above by generally comprising a sink has a bottom wall and a drain is integrated into the bottom wall. The drain is directed into an intake of a garbage disposal which is attached to the sink. An annular ring is provided which can be inserted into the drain of the sink. A funnel is integrated into the annular ring thereby facilitating the funnel to drain the sink when the annular ring is inserted into the drain. The funnel has a diameter that is sufficiently small to inhibit kitchen utensils from passing through the funnel thereby inhibiting the kitchen utensils from falling into the garbage disposal.
- There has thus been outlined, rather broadly, the more important features of the disclosure in order that the detailed description thereof that follows may be better understood, and in order that the present contribution to the art may be better appreciated. There are additional features of the disclosure that will be described hereinafter and which will form the subject matter of the claims appended hereto.
- The objects of the disclosure, along with the various features of novelty which characterize the disclosure, are pointed out with particularity in the claims annexed to and forming a part of this disclosure.
- The disclosure will be better understood and objects other than those set forth above will become apparent when consideration is given to the following detailed description thereof. Such description makes reference to the annexed drawings wherein:
-
FIG. 1 is a front view of a drain cover assembly according to an embodiment of the disclosure. -
FIG. 2 is a bottom perspective view of an embodiment of the disclosure. -
FIG. 3 is a bottom view of an embodiment of the disclosure. -
FIG. 4 is a top view of an embodiment of the disclosure. -
FIG. 5 is a perspective in-use view of an embodiment of the disclosure. -
FIG. 6 is a cross sectional view taken along line 6-6 ofFIG. 5 of an embodiment of the disclosure. - With reference now to the drawings, and in particular to
FIGS. 1 through 6 thereof, a new drain device embodying the principles and concepts of an embodiment of the disclosure and generally designated by thereference numeral 10 will be described. - As best illustrated in
FIGS. 1 through 6 , thedrain cover assembly 10 generally comprises asink 12 that has abottom wall 14 and adrain 16 that is integrated into thebottom wall 14. Thedrain 16 is directed into anintake 18 of agarbage disposal 20 which is attached to thesink 12. Thesink 12 may be a kitchen sink of any conventional design and thegarbage disposal 20 may comprise an electric garbage disposal of any conventional design that would commonly be found in a household kitchen. - An
annular ring 22 is provided which has a diameter that is sufficient to facilitate theannular ring 22 to be inserted into thedrain 16 of thesink 12. Theannular ring 22 has atop edge 24, abottom edge 26 and anoutside surface 28 extending between thetop edge 24 and thebottom edge 26. Thebottom edge 26 is spaced upwardly from theintake 18 of thegarbage disposal 20 when theannular ring 22 is inserted into thedrain 16 having theoutside surface 28 being positioned adjacent to aninterior surface 30 of thedrain 16. Theannular ring 22 has an inside diameter of approximately 7.6 cm and a height of approximately 16.0 mm. - A
lip 32 extends around theannular ring 22 such that thelip 32 rests upon thebottom wall 14 of thesink 12 when theannular ring 22 is inserted into thedrain 16. In this way thelip 32 inhibits theannular ring 22 from falling into thedrain 16. Thelip 32 is aligned with thetop edge 24 of theannular ring 22 and thelip 32 is perpendicularly oriented with theoutside surface 28 of theannular ring 22. Additionally, thelip 32 has a diameter of approximately 10.0 cm. - A
funnel 34 is integrated into theannular ring 22 thereby facilitating thefunnel 34 to drain thesink 12 when theannular ring 22 is inserted into thedrain 16. Thefunnel 34 has a diameter that is sufficiently small to inhibitkitchen utensils 36 from passing through thefunnel 34. In this way thefunnel 34 inhibits thekitchen utensils 36 from falling into thegarbage disposal 20. Thefunnel 34 has aperimeter edge 38 that is bonded to aninside surface 40 of theannular ring 22. Furthermore, thefunnel 34 slopes downwardly between theperimeter edge 38 and ahole 42 in thefunnel 34 thereby enhancing draining thesink 12. Thefunnel 34 comprises a plurality ofsections 44 each extending between theperimeter edge 38 and thehole 42. Additionally, each of the plurality ofsections 44 taper between theperimeter edge 38 and thehole 42 and the plurality ofsections 44 are distributed around thehole 42. - In use, the
annular ring 22 is inserted into thedrain 16 such that thelip 32 rests on thebottom wall 14 of thesink 12. In this way thesink 12 can drain 16 through thefunnel 34 while thefunnel 34 inhibits kitchen utensils from falling in thegarbage disposal 20. Additionally, thelip 32 inhibits theannular ring 22 and thefunnel 34 from falling into thedrain 16. Theannular ring 22 is removable from thedrain 16 at any time to service thegarbage disposal 20 or for other purposes. - With respect to the above description then, it is to be realized that the optimum dimensional relationships for the parts of an embodiment enabled by the disclosure, to include variations in size, materials, shape, form, function and manner of operation, assembly and use, are deemed readily apparent and obvious to one skilled in the art, and all equivalent relationships to those illustrated in the drawings and described in the specification are intended to be encompassed by an embodiment of the disclosure.
- Therefore, the foregoing is considered as illustrative only of the principles of the disclosure. Further, since numerous modifications and changes will readily occur to those skilled in the art, it is not desired to limit the disclosure to the exact construction and operation shown and described, and accordingly, all suitable modifications and equivalents may be resorted to, falling within the scope of the disclosure. In this patent document, the word “comprising” is used in its non-limiting sense to mean that items following the word are included, but items not specifically mentioned are not excluded. A reference to an element by the indefinite article “a” does not exclude the possibility that more than one of the element is present, unless the context clearly requires that there be only one of the elements.
