Abstract

Described are artificial eyelashes that have a curved cross-section with a concave recess, similar to a half moon shape. The concave recess provides a broad surface with increased surface area to allow an eyelash technician to apply adhesive to the eyelash extension (or natural lash) and, thereafter, adhere the eyelash extension to the user's natural with the natural lash resting within the curved recess.

Description

    CROSS-REFERENCE TO RELATED APPLICATIONS
  • This is a non-provisional application of U.S. Provisional Application No. 62/245,142, filed on Oct. 22, 2015.
  • BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
  • (1) Field of invention
  • The present invention relates to artificial eyelashes and, more particularly, to artificial eyelashes that have a curved cross-section with a concave recess, similar to a half moon shape.
  • (2) Description of Related Art
  • Eyelash extensions have been a popular cosmetic enhancement for several years. Eyelash extensions are applied to a user's natural eyelashes to save the user time and enhance their natural beauty.
  • Currently, there are many types of artificial eyelashes on the market, some better than others. Historically, artificial eyelashes were made of several artificial eyelashes that were adhered to a sticky strip. The sticky strip would then be applied to the user's eyelid to provide many artificial eyelashes in one easy procedure. A problem with the traditional artificial eyelashes is that they are bulky and do not look natural.
  • With advances in technology, single artificial eyelashes have been conceived. In other words, with single lashes, a single eyelash extension can be glued to a single natural eyelash. By gluing the eyelash extensions directly to the natural eyelashes, the natural look and fullness of the user is enhanced.
  • A problem with the original single eyelash extensions is that they are tapered on one side and extend out to a thick root on the other side. The thick root provides a broad surface that enables an eyelash technician to glue the thick root to the user's natural eyelashes. However, because the root is thick, when the eyelash extensions are applied to natural lashes, an observer can easily see the connection (it is not natural due to the bulky root). Further, the thick root is heavy (which harms the natural eyelashes) and does not stick perfectly.
  • As an alternative to a thick root, one could attempt to use an eyelash extension that has tapered points on both sides. However, a problem with such a configuration is that the tapered point does not allow for a sufficient amount of adhesive to allow the eyelash extension to last very long when adhered to a natural eyelash. Further, because it is such a small point, it is difficult for the eyelash technician to apply to the adhesive to the tapered point, causing them to work slowly.
  • Therefore, there is a continuing need for an eyelash extension that is formed in such a shape to allow for proper adhesion to natural eyelashes while still providing a realistic appearance.
  • SUMMARY OF INVENTION
  • The present invention relates to artificial eyelashes and, more particularly, to artificial eyelashes (e.g., synthetic filament) that have a curved cross-section with a concave recess, similar to a half moon shape. Finally, as can be appreciated by one in the art, the present invention also comprises a method for forming and using the invention described herein.

  • (1) Description
  • The present invention relates to artificial eyelashes and, more particularly, to artificial eyelashes that have a curved cross-section with a concave recess, similar to a half moon shape. Artificial eyelashes are formed of any desired material and in any desired form, non-limiting examples of which includes being formed as a synthetic filament. Notably and as referenced above, the artificial eyelashes according to the principles of the present invention have at least one surface that is concaved such that when viewed in a cross-sectional view, can be illustrated as a concave recess. FIGS. 1A through 1D depict four examples of cross-sectional views of artificial eyelashes 100 having a curved cross-section with a concave recess 102. The concave recess 102 is important in that it provides a broad surface to allow an eyelash technician to apply adhesive to the eyelash extension (or natural lash) and, thereafter, adhere the eyelash extension to the user's natural eyelashes.
  • For example, FIG. 2 is an illustration depicting a cross-sectional view, showing an artificial eyelash extension 100 being positioned against and adhered to a user's natural eyelash 200 via the concave recess 102. For further understanding, FIG. 3 is an illustration depicting an artificial eyelash extension 100, showing an example of a concave recess 102. Importantly, the concave recess 102 provides an extended surface area to wrap around a natural eyelash and provide increased adhesion between the two when glue (or other adhesive material) is applied.
  • As noted above and as shown in FIG. 4, the concave recess 102 provides a broad surface to allow an eyelash technician apply adhesive to the eyelash extension and, thereafter, adhere the eyelash extension 100 to the user's natural eyelashes 200. The curved shape increases aesthetic realism while increasing the strength of the bond between the artificial eyelash extension 100 and the users' natural eyelashes 200.
  • The artificial eyelashes 100 can be formed of any suitable thickness to any suitable tapering thickness, a non-limiting example of which includes being between 0.01 mm and 0.40 mm thick. Further, the artificial eyelashes 100 can be formed of to any suitable length, a non-limiting example of which includes being between 1 mm and 25 mm long.
  • They can be formed in any desired color, shape, size, tapered or not tapered, tapered with a blunt cut end, or any combination thereof and/or formed to be branched or attached with other eyelashes. For example, the artificial eyelashes can be formed as a single lash (as illustrated), or merged together with other single lashes, or merged with any kind of single lashes (tapered on both sides, one side, non-tapered on both sides, etc.) Further, the artificial eyelashes 100 can be formed to have any desired curvature.
  • In another aspect, the artificial eyelashes 100 can be formed smooth throughout, or with any number and shape of surface features. As a non-limiting example and as shown in FIG. 1A, the surface features 104 can be formed as globules, or in any other desired shape. Although not limited thereto, the surface features 104 are desirably formed on the surface opposite the concave recess 102. For example and as shown in FIG. 1A, the artificial eyelash 100 includes a convex surface 106 and a concave recess 102. In this non-limiting example, the surface features 104 are formed on the convex surface 106; although they can be formed at any desired location, such as on the concave recess 102 in other embodiments.
  • Additionally, it should be noted that the concave recess 102 can be shallow, as depicted in FIGS. 1A and 1B, or deeper to almost entirely engulf a natural eyelash, as shown in FIGS. 1C and 1D. Thus and as can be appreciated by those skilled in the art, this disclosure is directed to any artificial eyelash having any size, shape, characteristic, color, branches, etc., so long as the artificial eyelash includes at least one surface that possesses a concave recess formed to receive and connect with a user's natural eyelash.
  • Finally, while this invention has been described in terms of several embodiments, one of ordinary skill in the art will readily recognize that the invention may have other applications in other environments. It should be noted that many embodiments and implementations are possible. Further, the following claims are in no way intended to limit the scope of the present invention to the specific embodiments described above. In addition, any recitation of “means for” is intended to evoke a means-plus-function reading of an element and a claim, whereas, any elements that do not specifically use the recitation “means for”, are not intended to be read as means-plus-function elements, even if the claim otherwise includes the word “means”. Further, while particular method steps have been recited in a particular order, the method steps may occur in any desired order and fall within the scope of the present invention.
