Our invention relates to improvements in counter sales books.
An object" of our invention is to provide a counter sales book in which an original sheet and 5 one or more copies, made up in sets and attached in continuous fold pack or z ig-zag form, may be used, pulled thru and torn off, and replaced by a second set, ready for use.
'A further object of our invention is to provide a counter sales book in which continuous fold pack or zig-zag manifolding forms may be used in cooperation with a single set of transfer sheets. Existing practice in the trade is to use a bound book of printed forms, in cooperation with loose transfer sheets which must be removed each time a slip is made out, and replaced between the sheets of the next set of forms. It is our purpose in this invention to eliminate this waste of time and labor by providing means for using a single set of transfer sheets secured in place in such a manner that they will remain in place. during the use of a complete set of manifolding forms, to be renewed only when the book is loaded with a new set or book of fold pack forms.
A still further object of our invention is to pro.- vide a counter sales book for use in cooperation with fold pack or similar manifolding forms which is extremely simple in construction, economical of manufacture, very compact and light of weight, and easy to reload.
These and other objects and advantages of our invention will be more completely disclosed and described in the specification, the accompanying drawings, and the appended claims.
Broadly, our invention comprises a receptacle or box-like member for receiving a pack of manifolding forms, a writing plate hingedly secured to the box member,-means for removably securing a transfer sheet orsheets on the writing plate, 40 and means for'guidi'ng i'ndividual sheets of the manifolding forms'froin the box member onto the upper surface of the writing plate and between the transfer sheets, whereby the form sheets may be pulled across the top of the writing plate without disturbing the transfer sheets.
A preferred embodifijl ent of our invention is illustrated in the vacc rnpanying drawings, in which I Fig. 1 is a perspective view of the counter sales book with cover closed.

. Fig. 6 is a'perspective view of the counter sales book, showing a set of form sheets as they would appear when partly drawn from the writing plate,
. and the position of the writing plate during this operation, t
Fig. 7 is a longitudinal sectional view on the line of Fig. 2,
I Fig. 8 is a view similar to Fig. 7, illustrating the method for pulling the form sheets across the writingvplate,
Fig. 9 is a detail sectional view on the. line 9--9 of Fig. 8, and
Fig. 10 is a detail sectional view on the line Ill-l0 of Fig. 8.
Referring now to the drawings in detail, in which like numerals refer to like parts thruout:
A box or receptacle I, comprising a base 2, side walls 3, front wall 4, and rear wall 5, has pivotally secured to the rear wall 5 by means of hinges 6 a writing plate I. The writing plate I is formed with a slot 8 adjacent the hinges 6, thru which sets 9 of a pack or deck ll! of manifolding forms may be drawn onto the writing plate 1. Transfer sheets provided with reinforcing strips l2 of heavy paper or other suitable material which extend beyond the transfer sheets at either side and are formed with slots [3, are secured on the writing plate 1, between each pair of form sheets [5 in a set 9 by engagementof the slots l3 with studs I4 secured on the writing plate I. The form sheets l5 and transfer sheets II are held in place and guided by a removable retaining strip it, formed with slots I! which engage under the beaded studs l4. Near the bottom ofv the writing plate I, a second retaining strip I8 is permanently secured on the writing plate 1 by means of rivets -or studs l9, and serves to hold the set 9 of form sheets l5 against the upper surface of the writing plate 1. This retaining strip 18 also serves as a guide for the sets of form sheets when they are 45 drawn across the writing plate in process of removal, as illustrated in Figs. 6 and 8. The writing plate I is somewhat shorter than the length of the perforated sheets and the carbons, thus I forming in cooperation with the end I of the plate I a space 20, and the form sheets l5 are ofiuflicient length to overhang this space 20, as'indicated in Figs. 2 and '7. The overhanging edges 2| of the form sheets l5 may be easily grasped when it is desired to pull a set of form f form a cover 24 which may befolded over thewriting plate and the sheets thereon, as indicated in Fig. 1, thereby protecting the sheets ,and the writing plate], as indicated in Figs. a
from soiling or tearing when the book is not in use. The cover 24 may be provided with corner .pockets 25, or other suitable means for removably retaining thereon a tally card or record sheet 28 for use in cooperation with the sales or form sheets it used on the writing plate 1, as illustrated in Fig. 2. v
In operation, the counter sales book is loaded by lifting the writing plate I and inserting a pack of fold pack forms III in the box l, then drawing the first set 9 of form sheets thru the slot 8. The lowermost copy or form sheet is then laid on the writing plate 1, a transfer sheet H laid on top with its reinforcing edge l2 engaged by the studs H, the next lowermost'copy sheet laid on the transfer sheet, etc., until the original or top sheet of the set' 9 is laid on the uppermost transfer sheet Ii. The bottom edges 2| of the form sheetsare then-drawn under the retaining strip II, and the book is ready for use, as indicated in Fig. 2. After an entry has been made on the original of the set of forms, the bottom edges 2| are grasped and raised, as shown inFig. 6. In raising the form sheets, the writing plate I is raised with them at the same time, due to engagement of the form sheets between the writing plate I and the retaining strip II. This operation provides room beneath the writing plate I for movement of the next set 8 of form sheets, between the pack ll and8. As the first set of forms is drawn thru beneath the retaining strip ll, it pulls the following set attached thereto from the pack I. up- "wardly thru the slot {and onto the writing plate I, without disturbing the transfer sheets I] During this operation, the writing plate I rides on the folds of the second set 9 of forms, as indicated in Fig. 8. 'When the second set of forms has been pulled thru far enough until the joint or line of weakness between the second and third set is located at the slot 8 and engages the edge of the slot the writing plate lfalls naturally back into 'tion, as shown in Fig. 2. The first set of forms is then tom 01!, and the second set is in position ready for a second entry.
What we claim is: 1. In combination; in a counter sales book, a shallow box-like member' for receiving apack of folded manifold forms, a writing and cover plate hinged at its upper edge to the-'box-like member and formed with a slot adjacent and an open top manifold receiving receptacle, a cover and writing plate hinged at one'end of the receptacle and formed with a slot adjacent the hinged end through which manifold sheets may be drawn,
the cover plate being of less length than th receptacle for providing a space between the end of the plate opposite the hinged end and the receptacle for grasping the ends of the manifold forms which project beyond the end of the cover and writing plate, a transverse bar on the said plate adjacent said space under which the manifold forms are adapted to pass, the construction and arrangement bcingsuch that when the free ends of the manifold forms are grasped to draw a set of them from the receptacle the cover may be raised, and whereby space under the cover will be provided to permit the forms to be readily withdrawn from the receptacle, as described.
3. In combination, in a sales book construction,
-of a boxlike member having an open top for receiving a pack of manifold forms, a writing and cover plate pivotally attached atits upper edge to said member and formed with a slot adia cent said upper edge, the cover plate being of less length than the boxlike member for providing a space or recess at the end of the cover plate opposite said upper edge, a spring clip removably secured on saidcover plate adjacentsaid slot for holding transfer forms on the cover plate, and a bar permanently secured on said cover plate adjacent its lower edge for retaining the forms on the plate to permit the plate to be raised when theforms' are drawn through the opening in said plate, from the boxlike member.
4.. In combination, in a counter salesbook comprising a receptacle having an open topfor r'eceivinga packofmanifoldformshavlngaweakenedline intheforms, acovera'ndwritingplate having one edge pivotally connected to said receptacle 'and formed with a slot adjacent said edge, through which the forms are drawn from the receptacle, studs on saidplate, a slotted spring clipmember removablysecuredonsaidstuds for removably attaching transfer forms to'the plate and located adjacent the drawing slot, 0. member on said plate opposite said pivoted edge for loosely holding the forms down on the plate, whereby the cover plate may be raised when the user 8 1 the free ends of the manifold forms, and the forms drawn from the receptacle through the slot in the cover until the weakened line in theJform engages an edge of the slot, when the cover plate may be permitted to fall into its original position on the receptacle due to the flat arrangement of the forms in the receptacle when the line of weakness is at the slot.
5. In combination, in a counter sales book for zig-zag manifold forms, a, boxlike receptacle having a bottom, side members, and top and bottom movabljrengaged on-said studs, and atransverse bar adjacent the bottom edge of said writing plate permanently secured to said writing plate above the top of said writin and spaced plate. 7 j
