E'CiBradly Patented June 11, 1935 UNITED STATES PATENT oFFic This invention relates-to an electrical connecter and has relation more particularly to a connecter of this kind adapted to be used in connection with an electric light bulb, attachment plug, fuse 5 plug and the like, and it is primarily an object of the invention to provide a connecter which may be readily and conveniently slipped in a screw threaded socket and effectively retained therein. Another object of the invention is to provide a connecter of this kind constructed in a manner whereby after it has been properly engaged within a desired socket it will effectively resist withdrawal from the socket.
The invention consists in the details of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts of my improved electricalconnecter whereby certain important advantages are attained and the device rendered simpler, less expensive and otherwise more convenient and advantageous for use, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth. 7
The novel features of my invention willhereinafter be definitely claimed.
order that my invention may be the better understood, I will now proceed to describe the same with reference to the accompanying drawing, wherein:-
Figure 1 is an elevational view illustrating an electrical connecter constructed in accordance with an embodiment of my invention and in applied position.
Figure 2 is a view similar to Figure l but of the connecter alone in quarter turn relation;
Figure 3 is a sectional view taken substantially on the line 33 of Figure 1 with the screw shell omitted;
Figure 4 is a view similar to Figure 3 but showing certain of the parts in a second position;
Figure 5 is a view in plan of the blank from which the bow spring and its parts are produced.
As illustrated in the accompanying drawing my invention is disclosed as being employed in connection with a conventional electric bulb B, although it is to be understood that it can be employed in other ways, as for example as a conventional plug for electrical equipment. My improved device as herein illustrated comprises a base or shell I associated with the bulb B in a conventional manner and which has its periphery substantially smooth and unobstructed except for an annular groove 2 extending circumferentially therearound adjacent to its outer end. The base of this groove 2 at substantially diametrically opposed points is provided with-the relatively large slots 4 and at a poin subs an- I tially midway of. the smaller s1ot5. The base or shell I is insertible within an internally threaded socket member by direct thrust and after the base or shell I has been initially inserted within the socket member by giving the same a slight turn in one direction, as to the right, and to an extent allowed by the length of the slot 5, the free end portions of the hook-like lugs will be caused to overlie portions of the base or shell I whereby said lugs are held against inward movement thus resisting withdrawal of the base or shell from within its socket. Upon reverse turning movement of the applied base or shell I the same of .course can be readily removed.
The pin 8 by its coaction with the edges of the base or shell I defining the slot 5 provides means whereby the spring 6 is held against undue lateral movement and thus maintaining the spring in substantially a fixed path of travel in a direction circumferentially of the base or shell I. This pin 8 also coacts with the end edges of the slot 5 to limit the extent of movement of the spring 6 with respect to the base or shell I in a direction circumferentially of said base or shell I.
From the foregoing description it is thought tov of the several parts herein, shownin carrying out my invention in practice except as hereinafter claimed.

said shell having circumferentially spaced open ings, and a bow spring positioned-within the shell and having lugs normally extendingoutwardly of the shell through said openings, said: lugs when extended having engagement'withthethread of the socket member, said shell and'bow spring having limited relative rotary movement, th'e lugs being hook-shaped to overlap the shell upon relative movement of the spring and shelliin-one direction to hold'thelugsagains't movement inwardly of the'shell. r 1
