Description

Sept. 7, 1937.
, E. FEDERICO BRAssIERE Filed July 9, 1935 W ATTORNEYS Patented Sept. 7, 1937 UNITED STATES BRASSIERE Elsie Federico, Caldwell, N. 1., assignor, by memo assignments, to Royal Worcester Corset Company, Worcester, Mass., a corporation of Massachusetts Application luly 9, 1935, Serial No. 30,457
4 Claims. (or. 2-42) This invention relates to improvements in brassieres and has for one of itsobjects the provision of a brassiere which will support the bust without distortion, 1. e., support the'bust at the bottom and sides without unsightly bulging at the sides, thereby imparting to the bust the desired rounded natural appearance.
' Attempts have been made to provide brassieres which'will hold up sagging busts. Some of these structures have been provided'with stays and other supporting members at the bottom of the brassire, but in all of these prior devices, in an endeavor to raise the bust the same is caused to bulge at the sides and to present an unsightly appearanceinsteadof the rounded natural appearance' desired.
The present invention provides a brassire which is so constructed as to lift or raise a sagging bust at the bottom and at the same time restrain it against bulging at the sides thereby imparting to the bust the desired perfect natural appearing shape or contour.
In the accompanying drawing;
Fig. 1 is an elevational'view of an embodiment of my invention;
Fig. 2 is a side view of the same;
Fig. 3 is a view of thebrassiere when not in use; and
Fig. 4 is a view similar to Fig. 3 of a' modification of my invention. a
Referring to the drawing in detail and first of all to the form shown in Figs. 1 to 3, inclusive, i designates the outer covering for the entire bust, this covering being made of lace or other suitable material, within which is provided a bust supporting and restraining member 2.
The covering l and the member 2 are attached to each otherby stitching, for example, along the arcuate lines 3 at the bottom and along the arcuate lines 3' at the upper edge of the supporting member, both in turn being attached to the body portion 4 of the brassiere preferably by the same stitching along said arcuate lines. v
The supporting member 2 may be constructed of lace or other suitable material and is provided with a plurality of elastic bands 5, 6 and 1 attached thereto, the band 5 being at the upper edge of the supporting member. Each of these bands extends from one side of the supporting member to the other and terminates at the top of the supporting member on both sides as shown a portion of the length of the bands, as shown in Fig. 3, for the purpose of obtaining a perfect fit. The brassiere is supported on the wearer by means of shoulder straps B which are preferably of elastic material. nates in three legs H), II and i2. It will be noted that the end legs l and I2 are secured to the brassiere at the ends of the strap 5. If desired the legs l0 and i2 and the strap may beintegral. I
It will be obvious that when in use the supporting member of my improved brassire will snugly fitabout the lower portion of the bust, the elastic bands 5, 6 and I pulling the same up at the bottom and in at the sides, to provide a' perfect rounded contour. In effect the brassiere acts as a sling for the bust.
The form illustrated in Fig. .4 is similar to the form shown in Figs. 1 to 3 except that the covering l of the preferred form is eliminated and instead of the supporting-member terminating at the upper elastic band it extends to the top of the brassiere whereby the opening:
above the bands is eliminated and whereby the supporting member serves also as a covering for the bust.
In this form theelastic supporting member is designated 2', the elastic bands 5, 6" and I, the shoulder straps 8' and the bifurcations of the shoulder straps l0, H and l2. 7.
It will be understood too that while I have illustrated and described three elastic bands 5, 6 and I I do not wish to be limited to any particular number as obviously the number of bands may be varied as desired. It is also to be understood that instead of elastic I may employ satin, for example, if desired. Also, various other changes and modifications may be made in the structure illustrated and described'yvithout departing' from the spirit and scope of my invention.
- supporting members carried thereby, each of said supporting members being provided with 3.65
Each of these straps 'termi- 5.
plurality of elastic bands extending in concentric arcs and overlying the 'lower portion .of the busts to lift or raise the busts from beneath while restraining the same against bulging at the sides.
3. In combination a brassiere, a pair of bust supporting members carried thereby, a plurality of elastic bands secured to each of said members, said bands extending in concentric arcs and overlying the lower portion of the busts to raise or lift the same from beneath while restraining the busts against lateral bulging, shoulder straps for said brassiere, said straps being bifurcated,
the bifurcations terminating at the ends 01' the inner of said elastic bands.
4. In combination a brassiere, a covering for the busts, said covering comprising a plurality of supporting bands secured to said covering and extending in concentric arcs and overlying the lower portion of the busts to raise or lift the same from beneath while restraining the bu. s against lateral bulging, shoulder straps for said brassiere, said straps being bifurcated, the bifurcations terminating at the ends of the inner of said supporting bands.
