I I 1- Claim.

The invention relates to improvements in bras- I sires asdescribed in the present specification and illustrated in the. accompanying drawings that form apart of the same.

The invention consists essentially of the novel features in construction. as pointed out broadly and specificallyin the claim for novelty following a description containing an explanation in detail of acceptable forms of the invention.

The objects of the invention are to devise a brassiere that will enhance the appearance of the wearer and at the same time provide full and proper support; to furnish a brassiere the lower portion of the breast cups of which is especially designed and formed 'to act upon the under portion of the breast, to there maintain the breast in a supported position in, such a manner that the remaining portion of the breast in the breast cup is free to form itself in unrestricted and natural position; to construct a brassiere simple and inexpensive to manufacture; and generally to provide a brassiere that is sufiicient for its purpose.

Like numerals of reference indicate corresponding parts in the various figures.

Referring to the drawings, the brassiere is, in this instance, preferably made up of separate sections of suitable and non-stretchable material, these sections making up the body band or strap portions l and II and the breast receiving portions or cups [-2 and I3 and being sewn or otherwise suitably secured together to form the whole.

The breast cups l2 and I3 are in turn each composed of separate sections of material form ing the upper sections I4 and l 5 or top of the cup, and the lower sections I6 and 11 forming the support for the under portion of the breast, these sections being sewn or otherwise secured together at It! and I9 respectively.

The breast cups l2 and I 3 are joined by being sewn together at 20, a reinforcing of a suitable material, a strip 2|, being secured over the point of joining, a corresponding reinforcing strip being located on the inside face. The lower portion of each of the sections It and I! of thebreast cups are semi-stiff, these semi-stiff portions, 22- and-23, being formed by the addition of a somewhat semi-circular piece of a suitable material, as indicated by the numeral 24 in Figure .2,-sewn to the inside face of the section at 25, and to the bottom edge of the section.

The topedge of these stiffeners :is scolloped, extending from either side in an S-shaped manner towards the center forming. a .slight arcuate rise, 26 and 2'! respectively, and terminating in a central-convex rounded-lobe 28. The central lobe 28 is a more pronounced arcuate edge section than its fianking'arcuat'e :rises 26 and 2T. The inside face of each-of the breast cups'has a and uhvlining 29. suitably; secured -.th ereto, this lining preferably, and in this instance, being of a mesh material, the stiffener being located between the inside face of the cup and this mesh lining.

Each of the body bands or straps l0 and II tapers upward from its outer end, being secured at its wide end to the outside edge of one of the breast cups of the brassiere by being stitched or otherwise suitably fastened thereto, and having a reinforcing strip, 32 and 33, secured over the juncture.

The midriif section of the brasseire is made up of a separate piece of material secured along the bottom edge of each of the stifieners 24 and following the contour of same, and to the bottom edge of the upper section l4 and i5 at 34 and 35 respectively, the lower portion of the inner end of each of the bands l0 and II being secured to the outside edge of the midriif sections 36 and 37.

One of the body bands, in this instance that indicated by the numeral H, has secured to its outer end, a section 38 of a suitable stretchable material, such as elastic, this section being provided with eyelets 39, the body band It! being provided with hooks 40 at its outer end. While the fastening means of the brassiere are preferably as described and illustrated, any other suitable means may be utilized.

The shoulder straps 4l and 42 are each secured to the top edge of a breast cup and to a band section adjacent the outer end thereof. An adjustexactly the same as that hereinabove described and illustrated, with the exception that the lower portion; 45 and 46 respectively, of the breast cups 41 and 48, is made up of stifiener 49, of a suitable" material, having its top edge of a different formation. This modified stiffener has its top edge curving inward and formed with a plurality of concave sections 50, separated by somewhat V-shaped portions 5|, the apex of which is directed upward. In this modified form of brasforming convex rounded lobes 56, 51 and 58, each being of similar proportion.

brassieres hereinbefore described and illustrated, is convex in shape, to follow the contour of the under portion. of a breast. g

It, is of course understood that modifications and ramifications may be made within the scope of the appended claim without in any way departing from the spirit of the invention.

What I claim is:

In brassires, a brassiere comprising a pair of breast cups each consisting of an upper and a lower portion suitably connected together, said breast cups being connected together at their inside edges to form an unbroken vertical line at that point, a stifiener'forming a part of each of saidlower portions of the said breast cups and comprising a fiat substantially semi-circular section 01' a semi-stiff 'material located against the inside face of said lower portion, the top edge of said stiffener curving arcuately downward the end portions being positioned to the inside of said upper portion and secured along that part of the bottom edge thereof the major portion of the top edge of the stifiener being below the junction of said upper portion and said lower portion of the breast cup and free of said upper section, said stiffener having its top edge irregular in form in an s-shaped manner towards the center thereof, a central convex rounded lobe formed-by the said irregular shaped top edge and being flanked on each side by a slight arcuate rise, a midriff section to said brassiere comprising a section of material secured along the bottom edge of each of said stiifeners and following the contour of the bottom edge thereof and being secured to a portion, of the bottom edge of said upper portion of the breast cup, a body band section secured to each of said breast cups and having a portion thereofsecured to. a' portion of said midrifi section, and shoulder straps suitably connected to said breast cups and said body band, sections.
