Description

June 22, 1937. F. F. WENZEL.
CIGARETTE HOLDER Filed July 22, 1936 I f3 ZW 'f5 INVENTOR Z ATTORNEYS Patented June 22, 1937 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE 1 Claim.
The invention relates to a cigarette holder and more especially to a safety holder for cigarettes.
'Ihe primary object of the invention is the pro- Vision of a holder of this character, wherein the cigarette when lighted and being smoked will be held in a manner to avoid the dropping of ashes upon the clothing of a smoker or on the floor as such ashes dropped from the cigarette will be trapped or caught by the holder.
Another object of the invention is the provision of a holder of this character, wherein, when the lighted cigarette is in the holder and the latter has been brought to rest, there is no liability of the cigarette contacting with furniture or other places where it has been brought to rest and thereby avoiding the burning, scorching or otherwise marring of such furniture or other support upon which the holder has been brought to rest.
A further object of the invention is the provision of a holder of this character which is extremely simple in construction, thoroughly reliable and effective in operation, permitting a cigarette or the like to be smoked in a convenient manner and with safety, strong, durable, and inexpensive to manufacture.
With these and other objects in view, the invention consists in the features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawing, which discloses the preferred embodiment of the invention, and pointed out in the claim hereunto appended.
In the accompanying drawing:
Figure 1 is a top plan view of a holder constructed in accordance with the invention.
Figure 2 is a vertical longitudinal sectional View thereof.
Figure 3 is a view similar to Figure 2 showing the mouth piece separated and the latch of the holder engaged with a cigarette in the mouth piece for enabling the removal of such cigarette therefrom in a convenient manner.
Figure 4 is a sectional view on the line 4-4 of Figure 2 looking in the direction of the arrows.
Similar reference characters indicate corresponding parts throughout the several views in the drawing.
Referring to the drawing in detail, the cigarette holder comprises a mouth piece 5 having a central longitudinally extended smoke passage 6 therethrough, one end of the said mouth piece being reduced to provide an external annular seat 'I at this end. The reduced end portion of the mouth piece is provided with a socket 8 for ac for the smoking thereof in the conventional manner.
Removably fitted on the reduced end of the (Cl. ISI-51) mouth piece 5 is a tubular or barrel-like body l0 having the closed outer end Il and the opposite open end l2, respectively. This open end I2 accommodates the reduced end of the mouth piece 5 so that the said open end of the barrel I0 will be accommodated in the annular seat 'i concentrically about the reduced end of said mouth piece.
The uppermost side of the barrel I has formed therein substantially rectangular shaped openings I3, these having gratings I4, respectively, to assure perfect draft when the cigarette 9 is be ing smoked on the carriage thereof in the mouth piece 5. 'Ihe cigarette, when in the mouth piece 5, on the placing of the tube l0 on said mouth piece, projects into said tube longitudinally thereof. Thus it Will be seen that the ashes dropping from the cigarette will be caught or trapped in the barrel I0 to avoid the falling of the ashes upon the clothing of a smoker of the cigarette or upon the floor.
Fixed to the grating I4 next to the open end l2 of the barrel l0 is a springy hook-like catch I5, its bill I6 being adapted to play through a suitable clearance in the barrel l0 to engage in the reduced end of the mouth piece and in this manner the barrel l0 is detachably latched to the mouth piece. The bill I6, on separation of the barrel l0 from the mouth piece 5, can be brought into engagement with the cigarette 9, as is shown in Figure 3 of the drawing, so that the cigarette can be extracted from the socket 8 in the mouth piece 5 and in this manner ejected therefrom.
About the barrel I0 throughout the length thereof and at the closed end Il is a flreproof covering I1 which is made fast to the barrel in any suitable manner so as to avoid heat radiating from the barrel I0 when the holder is at rest upon a piece of furniture or other support to avoid scorching or burning of the furniture or other support when the holder is at rest and the cigarette is lighted.
'Ihe covering I l may be in the form of cork insulation or any other heat resisting material.
The holder by reason of its construction will serve as a home safety cigarette holder.
What is claimed is:
The combination of a mouth piece, a barrel closed at one end and open at the other end and detachably fitted with the mouth piece at its open end, the said barrel having openings, a heat and fire resisting covering on said barrel, and a latch carried by the barrel and engageable with the mouth piece for detachably securing the same together and also acting as a cigarette ejector by engaging the cigarette when within the holder on the separation of the barrel from the mouth piece.
