This invention relates to an extinguisher for a cigarette, the general object of the invention being to provide a tubular member for holding a cigarette with means therein for extinguishing the lighted end of the cigarette so that the partially used cigarette can be relighted and smoked, thus reducing the number of cigarettes used by a smoker.

This invention also consists in certain other features of construction and in the combination and arrangement of several parts, to be hereinafter fully described, illustratedin the accompanying drawing and specifically pointed out in the appended claims.

In describing the invention in detail, reference will be had to the accompanying drawing wherein like characters denote like or corresponding parts throughout the several views, and in which:- I

As shown in this drawing the device comprises 25 a tubular member I having one end closed and its other end open and this open end is provided with a flaring part 2 for facilitating the entrance of the lighted end of the cigarette into the member. At the closed end a series of inwardly ex- 30 tending flanges 3 are formed on the side walls of the member and these flanges slope inwardly and toward the open end of the device and the flanges gradually increase in width toward the closed end of the device. Thus the opening 35 formed by the inner circumferences of these flanges tapers toward the closed end was to form a conical recess for receiving the lighted end of the cigarette placed in the device. On the bottom or closed end of the device are arranged 40 the flanges 4, the free edges of which forms. bottom for the conical opening and these flanges may be formed and arranged as shown in Figures 1 and 2.

Thus when a lighted cigarette is placed in the device the lighted end will be engaged by the inner edges ofthe flanges 3 and 4 which act 5 to smother the burning end of the cigarette and "thus extinguish the same and this is done without crushing the cigarette so that the cigarette can be taken from the device and relighted and smoked. Thus this device will save the smoker expense in buying cigarettes as it will reduce the number he smokes as the device will enable the smoker to practically consume each cigarette before he throws it away.

It is thought from the foregoing description 15 that the advantages and novel features of the invention will be readily apparent.

It is to be understood that changes may be made in the construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, provided that 20 such changes fall within the scope of the appended claims.

Having described the invention, what is claimed as new is 1. A device of the class described comprising a tubular member open at one end and having its other end closed and a series of spaced flanges in 'the'closed end, the inner circumferences of the flanges forming a conical opening for receiving the lighted end of a cigarette.

2. A cigarette extinguisher comprising a tubular member having one end open and its other end closed, a series of flanges extending inwardly from the inner walls of the member adjacent the closed end, said flanges extending at a forward angle from the member and gradually increasing in width toward the closed end, and inwardly extending flanges connected with the bottom of the member and terminating at the inner end of the rearmost of the first-mentioned flanges.
