Description
April v20, 1937. c. B. LUTZ CAP FOR TOOTHPASTE TUBES Filed Dec. 11, 1956 ATTOR N EYS Patented Apr. 20, 1937 UNITED STATES PATENTOFFICE CAP FOR TOOTHPASTE TUBES Clay B. Lutz, Hagerstown, Md. Application December 11, 1936, Serial No. 115,427
2 Claims. (01. 221-450) 10 extraneous objects will be positively prevented.
A further object is to provide the cone-shaped In further carrying out the invention I provide a base N5 of substantially cylindrical contour having an eccentrically disposed conical bore ll adapted to receive the replacement cap II and hold the cap and tube in inverted position at a slight angle of perhaps about five degrees to the perpendicular, as shown in Figure 1. The base is provided witha bell shaped flange l8 the lower edge I 9 of which is circular and is located in the plane of the bottom 20 of the base It, as best shown in Figure 2, so that a wide annular supreplacement cap and the conical recess with porting edge is engaged on the shelf or other smooth walls permitting the cone-shaped replacement cap to be placed in or'withdrawn from 15 the recess without turning the tube.
A further object is to provide a cone-shaped replacement cap with a knurled portion by means of which the cap may be quickly screwed on to or unscrewed from the tube when desired.
-20 A further object is to provide a device of the character described which will be formed of a few strong simple and durable parts, which will be inexpensive to manufacture, and which will not easily get out of order.
of the advantages of the invention.
In the accompanying drawing forming part of thisspecification,
Figure 1 is a side elevation of a paste tube equipped with a replacement cap and base constructed in accordance with the invention.
piece of furniture upon which the base may be located to provide a permanent place for storing the tube when not in use.
The outer wall of the replacement cap II and the conical bore of the base I6 are smooth to permit the cap being easily inserted and removed from the base. It will be observed that the slit I5 is fully open at the bottom while the bottom of the base is completely closed so that when the tube is removed the contents may be squeezed through the cap without handling the cap while at the same time when the tube is in stored position, as shown in Figure 1, the closed bottom of the base will positively prevent contamination of the contents of the tube by contact with extraneous objects.
From the above description it is thought that the construction and operation of the invention will be fully understood without further explanation.
What is claimed is: v
1. The combination with a collapsible tube of a conical replacement cap having a bore provided with a screw threaded portion to receive the conventional screw threaded neck 01' the tube and Figure 2 is a longitudinal sectional view through having a slit portion open through the small end the cap and base shown in Figure I with a por- 40 tion of the tube shown in elevation.
to the plane of the section shown in Figure 2.
Figure 4' is a detail perspective view of the replacement cap.
Referring now to the drawing in which like of the cap, and abase having a bell shaped supporting flange terminating in an annular bottom edge in the plane of the bottom of the base, the base having a conical bore adapted to. receive the conical cap and support the tube in inverted position, the bottom of the base being closed to prevent contamination of the contents of the tube.
2. The combination with a collapsible tube characters of reference designate similar parts"- having threaded neck, of a. cone shaped rein the various views, Ill designates a collapsible l m t cap for the original cap, and a base tube of the type used as a container for tooth- 50 paste, shaving cream and the like.
In carrying out the invention the conventional cap of the tube is replaced with a conical replacement cap ll having a knurled surface l2 at the wide end thereof and'having a cylindrical thread- 55 ed bore l3 to receive the threaded neck I l of the tube l0. Below the bore the cap is provided with an axial slit l5 which opens throughtlmall having a conical recess, the cone shaped replacement cap being fully open at its lower end, said recess being closed at its lower end, t eouter surface of the cone shaped replacement cap and the conical wall of the recess being smooth to permit the cap to be placed in or withdrawn from the recess without turning the tube, said recess being inclined at a slight angle to the verend of the cap and permits of a ribbon of thi tical and Supporting the e in inverted up material being squeezed through'the cap in 53%: position at a. slight angle to the vertical.
co conventional manner.
