UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
\YILLIAM R. E. BERTH, OF NE YORK, N. Y., ASSIGNOR TO THOMAS NELSON & SONS, OF SAME PLACE.
IMPROVEMENT IN BOOK-HOLDEIdS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 206,216, dated July 23, 1878; application filed June 12, 1878.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM R. E. BER'lI-I, of New York city, in the county and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Imprmement in Prayer-Book and Hymnal Case, of which the following is aspecification:
ligurelisaperspective view of my improved case, showing a prayer-book and a hymnal inclosed within it. Fig. 2isa crosssection of the same, taken through the line a; ac, Fig. 1.
Similar letters of reference indicate correspondin g parts.
The present invention relates to aholder for prayer and hymn books, in which the books can be safely carried.
The invention consists in a prayer-book and hymnal case made with a central partition provided with pockets upon its opposite sides, to receive the adjacent boards of the covers of the two books, having a flap upon the edge of one side, to overlap and be secured to the other side, and provided with a handle, as hereinafter fully described.
A represents the case, which is made of such a size as to receive the two books within it. In the center of the case A is formed a partition, B, provided with pockets (3 upon its two sides, to receive the adjacent boards of the covers of the two books, as shown in Fig. 2. Upon the edge of one side of the case A is formed a flap, D, of such a size as to cover the forward edges of the two books and overlap the other side of the said case, to which it is secured by a clasp, E, or other suitable fastening. The flap D is provided with a handle,F.
which may be made of any suitable material and of any desired shape, so that the case and,
the inelosed books may be conveniently car ried.
If desired, a small pocket, G, may be made upon the inner side of the flap D, to receive currency or coin for contribution.
I am aware that a case or holder for prayer and hymnal. books is not broadly new with myself.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
A prayer-book and hymnal case, A, made with a central partition, 13, provided with pockets 0 upon its opposite sides, to receive the adjacent boards of the covers of the two books, having aflap, D, upon the edge of one side, to overlap and be secured to the other side, and provided with a handle, F, substantially as herein shown and described.
