PLOWSHARE EDGE AND POINT RECLAIMER FledAFeb. 4, 1935 Patented Aug. 18, 1936 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE Application February 1 Claim.
An object of my invention is to provide a plow share edge and point reclaimer of simple, durable and inexpensive construction.
A further object is to provide a reclaimer element adapted for welding in place of the point and edge of a. Worn plow share, portions of such point and edge first being removed as by cutting with a cold chisel or acetylene torch.
Still a further object is to provide a reclaimer which can be purchased and applied to a plow share and is considerably less expensive than buying a complete new share.
Still another object is to provide such a reclaimer adapted for a lister or middle buster plow.
Still another object is to provide a reclaimer for the edge and point of a plow share which produces a reclaimed edge and point integral with the unworn parts of the share left on the plow` With these and other objects in View, my invention consists in the construction, arrangement and combination of the various parts of my plow share edge and point reclaimer, whereby the objects contemplated are attained, as hereinafter more fully set forth, pointed out in my claim, and illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which:
Figure l is a plan View of a plow showing my reclaimer welded in position thereon.
Figure 2 is a side elevation of the same.
Figure 3 is a reverse side elevation of the same.
Figure 4 is a sectional view on the line 4--4 of Figure 2, illustrating the reclaimer joined in position.
Figure 5 is a perspective View of the reclaimer element.
Figure 6 is a perspective view of a lister plow showing a reclaimer applied thereto; and
Figure 7 is a plan View of the reclaimer for the lister plow.
In the accompanying drawing, I have used the reference numeral I0 to indicate a plow share. The land side for the share is indicated at I2 and the mold board at II.
In the use the share Ill becomes worn along its edge and point, wearing for instance from the original lines indicated at a and b to the lines a and b. This is due to actual wear and to wearing away because of frequent sharpenings, which, of course, are necessary.
I provide an edge and point reclaimer A, which is perhaps best shown in Figure 5. It has two distinct portions, an edge portion I4 and a point portion IB. The point portion I6 has a face I8, which forms a continuation of the land side I2.
1n using my reclaimer, the worn plow share 4, 1935, Serial No. 4,762
edge and point indicated at a and b' lare cut away to the lines indicated as a and b". This is so that an edge of substantial thickness is provided for welding the reclaimer A to.
It will be noted that the share I II has but a 5 small portion of its edge cut away along the line a", but more of its point along the line b, because the point usually wears down most.
The reclaimer A then fits the cut-off share,
the reclaimer having its edge portion I4 com- 10 l paratively narrow and its point portion I6 comparatively long to replace the original point of the plow share IIJ.
The rear vertical edge of the face I8 indicated at 20 fits against the forward edge 22 of 15 the land side I2, to form a continuation thereof to provide a complete landside.
The portion along the line b" is at substantially right angles to the line of draft to minimize the tendency for the reclaimer to become loosened and slide out of position.
The reclaimer is then welded in position as indicated at w and w', this being accomplished by any suitable wel-ding process available. The welding extends the entire length of the lines a, b and 20.
As shown in Figure 7, a reclaimer A can be provided for a lister plow bottom B. This reclaimer has a pair of edge portions Illa and a double point portion IBa. It is adapted for welding in position after the worn edge of the double share Illa of the plow B has been cut off, so that it will properly t against the cut ofi portion.
By my construction, it is possible due to there being much less material in the reclaimer than in an ordinary plow share to provide the reclaimer at considerably less cost than a new plow share. It is therefore more economical to use my reclaimer than to buy a new plow share when the old one is worn so badly that it no longer operates eciently.
Some changes may be made in the construction and arrangement of the various parts of my plow share edge and point reclaimer, without departing from the essential features and purposes of my invention, and it is my intention to cover by my claim, any modified forms of structure or use of mechanical equivalents, which may be reasonably included within its scope.
I claim as my invention: 1
In a plow share edge and point reclaimer, a reclaimer element having an edge portion and a point and land side portion, said edge portion being substantially narrower than the normal y width of a plow share throughout the major 55 portion of rits length and increasing in width from on a line extending substantially parallel to ladjacent said point portion to a substantially Vsaid worn edge and curving rearwardly across long and widepoint, the'rear edgeY of said edge said worn point and at substantially right anand point and land side portions being adapted gles to the linerof draft.
