FINGER RING Filed Jan. 6, 1952 grs/vento@ Edward J. Salwar@ dumm Patented Sept. 19, 1933 i l FINGER RING Application January 6, 1932. Serial No. 585,070
i Claims. (C1. 63u15) v The invention appertains to rings designed to be worn upon a digit of the human hand and provided with a setting, or ornament, such as a jewel.
While the invention is intended chieily for finger rings, it is not restricted to such application since it is adaptablev to jeweled articles for personal wear or ornamentation. Q
The accompanying drawing illustrates two embodiments or" the invention and disposed in rela tive order.
l is a perspectiveview, the parts being separated and disposed in relative order;
lig. 2 is a circumferential sectional view on the line 2--2 of lig. 3; and
Fig. 3 is a transverse sectional view on the line 3-3 of Fig. 2.
Referring now more particularly to the aecompanying drawing, there is illustrated. a ring to which the present invention is applied but it will be understood that the body to which the invention is applied may be in the form of a stickpin or other variety or jewelry. As shown, the body l designates a ring to be worn upon ones finger and this body is widened at 2 and provided with a rlat 3 having an opening 3 formed through the fiat face. l
A relatively thin plate l is placed on said flat face over the opening 3' adjacent the edges of the opening, the plate conforming to the shape of the opening.
A frame 5 sometimes herein referred to as a hollow frame is attached to the flat face 3 by soldering or otherwise and encloses the plate 4. This frame 5 preferably has a ledge 6 which is soldered or-otherwise secured firmlyto the at face, effectively securing the frame to the body with the ledge of the frame conforming in shape vto the shape of the plate 4 so as to fairly snugly embrace the same and whereby both the plate 4 and the frame 5 are disposed against said ilat face 3 about said opening 3. A jewel 9 is fitted within the frame 5.
A metal ornament overlies the jewel 9 and as Yshown most clearly in Fig. l, consists of a frame 11 and a body l2 of any suitable configuration or design, therebeing arms 13 connecting the ornament l2 to the frame ll, these several parts being preferably of integral formation. The ornament which may be of metal or any other suitable material after being placed within the frame 5, is retained in place by burnishing or otherwise turning the outer edge portion or the frame 5 over onto the top face of the frame 11 as clearly illustrated in the drawing.
From the foregoing, it will be seen that there is provided a ring or other article of jewelry composed of relatively few parts which are readily mounted and secured together against displacement with relation to kthe article of jewelry, whether such article be a nger ring, stickpin or jewelry of any other character calculated for the adaptation of the present invention.
What is claimed is:
1. A jeweled article comprising a body having a flat portion provided with an opening, a thin plate having its marginal edges overlapping said flat portion in the regions adjacent said opening, a hollow frame member' provided at its inner section with a ledge portion which embraces the marginal edges of said plate and whichledge portion is secured to said flat portion of the body, a jewel disposed within said hollow frame member and in such a manner as to overlie the joint between said thin plateand said ledge portion, and an ornament overlying the jewel, the outer edge section` of said hollow frame member being in clamping engagement with the marginal edges of said ornament member in a manner to hold the said thin plate and jewel in juxtaposition.
2. An article o the character described, comprising a body having a .dat portion provided with an opening, a plate having outer marginal edge portions overlapping :dat portions of the body in the immediate vicinity of said opening, a hollow frame having a marginal inner ledge portion, which inner ledge portion is constructed so as to leave an opening therethrough that is larger than said opening'in the body and so that the ledge embraces the marginal edges `or" said plate, the inner ledge portion being secured to the body, a jewel disposed within the frame and ntting snugly therein and extending across the joint between said plate and said inner ledge portion oi the frame, and an ornament overlying the jewel, which ornament comprises a marginal frame and a portion projecting away from the jewel, which frame portion of the ornament its within the hollow frame, the outer edge sections of said hollow frame being bendable inwardly so as to overlie the frame of the ornament for the purpose of securing the jewel and ornament in place within the hollow frame.
3. An article of the character described, com# prising a body having a flat face portion provided with an opening, a plate having a marginal edge conforming in general to the contour of said opening but being larger than said opening and arranged with the marginal edge oi the said plate resting upon the flat face portion of the body in Cil lsa
the immediate vicinity of the opening in the body, a hollow frame which is constructed so as to provide a marginal peripheral section which coincides in shape with the body portion of the ring upon which the frame portion is mounted, so as to provide at its inner section an inner marginal ledge portion that serves as a medium through which the frame is secured to the body, and so as to provide an outer section which is open, which inner ledge is constructed so that it embraces the marginal edges of said plate when the several parts are in assembled position, a jewel disposed within the frame, which jewel is shaped so as to extend across the joint between said plate and said ledge, and an ornament overlying the jewel, which said ornament has openings therethrough exposing the jewel to view and provides a marginal frame of a shape conforming to that of the interior of the hollow frame, said hollow frame having its outermost edge section con- Lozzzzi structed so that in the completed article it is turned inwardly to overlie the frame of the ornament and thereby secure the jewel and the ornament in place within said hollow frame.
4. An article of the character described, conn prising a body having a iiat face portion provided with an opening therethrough, a thin plate having marginal edge portions that overlap said flat face portion in regions adjacent said opening, a hollow frame member the inner end section of which is soldered to said iiat face portion of the body and which inner end section of the hollow frame embraces the marginal edge portion of said flat plate, and a jewel disposed lwithin said hollow frame and over said thin plate, the outer end section of said hollow frame being bendable in a manner whereby there is effected a holding of the jewel in juxtaposition in respect to the thin plate and in place within the hollow frame.
