IMPROVEMENT IN SHOT BAGS AND CHARGERS.

Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 190,765, dated May 15, 1877; application tiled April 9. 1877.

To all lwhom it may concern Be it known that I, THOMAS J. JOLLY, of Etna, in the county of Scotland and State of Missouri, have invented a new and Improved Shot Bag and Charger, of which the following is a specification:

This invention has reference to an improved shot bag and charger, by which any given quantity of shot may be uniformly and quickly taken out from the bag for the purpose of loading shot-guns. No shot is lost in the working of thedevice, and the same is of cheap and durable construction, and not liable to get out of order, as no springs are used in the same.

The invention consists of a shot-bag, having a perforated bottom and a sliding pivoted plate, with a downward-extending tube, having a bottom ange, interior charger, and plug litting into the bottom hole to close the same and lift the charger.

In the drawing, A represents the shot bag or pouch, whose wooden bottom has an exithole, a, that registers with a tube, B, of a plate, A', which swings or slides on the bottom of the bag, being applied thereto by a pivot, b, and its motion checked by a slot, d, and stop d'.

The tube B is open at both ends, and provided With an inward flange, e, at the lower end, on which a plug, C, rests by a top flange, f, and extends below the bottom opening of tube B, and closing the same.

The charger D rests on the plug inside of the tube B, and is, with its open mouth, on a level with the upper surface of the plate A.

When the plate A is pushed under the bottom of the shot-bag, the charger-tube and bottom hole of the bag register and till in this position the charger instantly with shot. The plate is then moved outwardly by a handle, E, and the shot cut oft' level with the mouth of the charger by a Xed plate, g, which is attached iush with the bottom around exit-hole a. The shot is then taken out of the charger by lifting the same out of the tube by means of the plug, which serves for the double purpose ot' closing the tube B in case the same should be accidentally pushed back under the exit-hole, while the charger is taken out of the same, and also for facilitating the removal of the charger.

The shot-gun or cartridge may by this device be quickly charged with the required quantity of shot, and the bag carried and used in convenient manner without any possibility of losing shot.

Having thusdescribed my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- 1. The combination of the swinging plate A', fixed guide-tube B, and interior removable charger D, with the shot-bag A, having bottom exit-hole a and encircling cut-0E plate g, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.

2. The combination, with the shot-bag A, having exit-hole, the swinging plate A', and guide-tube B, having bottom seat or flange, of the flanged closing-plug O, and the removable charger D, resting thereon, for the purpose of lifting the charger when tilled, and preventing the escape of shot through the tube when the charge is removed, substantially as herein set forth.
