Description

M y 1933- A. F. cHRlsTlANi DISPENSING DEVICE Filed April 1, 1931 ATTQRNEVS WITNESS:
Patented May 2, 1933 AUGUST FREDERIC CHRISTIANI, OF REID LODGE, MONTANA DISPENSING DEVICE Application filed April 1, 1931. Serial No. 526,802.
The present invention relates to article disis secured at its upper end in any suitable pensing devices, and comprehends the promanner as at 15 upon one side of the receptavision of a novel construction primarily incle. The spring permits the lowermost cigtended for singly delivering a cigarette from arette to be removed from the receptacle in a receptacle upon each operation of the dethe manner to be herelnafter described, and 55 j subsequently supports the remaining cig- In carrying out the invention 1 provide a arettes within the receptacle. lever actuated member constructed to pierce Prqiectmg from one end of the receptacle th d f an adj nt igar tte l cated with- IS a plate 15 on which is mountd a lever ini it receptacle d t i -1 v aid eluding the angularly disposed branches 16 60 cigarette upon reverse movements of the and 17 respectively, the lever being pivoted membeL upon the plate as at 18. The branch 17 of The nature and advantages of the inventhis lever projects below the plate 15' and is tion will be better understood when the folconnected with the adjacent end of an elon- 15 lowing detail description is read in connecgated plate 19 utilized to singly remove the tion with the accompanying drawing, the in- Cigarettes from the receptacle 10. The lowvention residing in the construction, combior portion of the plate 19 carries a pin 20 nation and arrangement of parts as claimed. which 15 received by a slot 21 in the lower In the drawing forming part of this appliend of the branch 17 of the lever. The plate 20 cation like numerals of reference indicate 1S also supported for tilting and sliding similar parts in the several views and wheremovements upon the plate 15, by mean of a in: pin 22, carried by the plate 15 and operating Figure 1 is a side elevation of the device in an angular-shaped slot 23 formed in the showing how a cigarette is removed from its plate 19. ProJecting from the lower end of 25 receptacle. the plate 19 is a pointed element 24 located to Figure 2 is a sectional View taken on line pierce one end of the lowermost cigarette 12 2-2 of Figure 1. of the column of cigarettes supported in the Figure 3 is a fragmentary view similar to lower portion of the receptacle, and to subse- Figure 1 showing the position of parts prior quently remove the cigarette upon operation to the removal of the cigarette from its reof the lever.
ceptacle. In practlce the receptacle is filled with cig- Figure 4 is a fragmentary View showing arettes 12, a number of which will be supthe operating lever and its mounting in eleported in column-like formation in the reti stricted passage defined by the intervening Referring to the drawing in detail 10 indispace between the parallel portions, 11.
cates a receptacle which may be constructed When it is desired to singly remove the lowfrom any suitable material and also vary in ermost cigarette of the column of cigarettes, size and configuration without departing it is only necessary to depress the branch 16 from the inventive idea. The receptacle, of the lever, causing the plate 19 to assume however, is provided with spaced parallel the position illustrated in Figure 3, the plate depending portions 11 to provide a restrictassuming this position by reason of the slot 23 ed passage to receive a number of cigarettes and the slot and pin connection between the 12 in column-like formation, this passage plate and the lower end of the branch 17 of being open at its bottom so that the cigarettes the lever. As the plate 19 assumes the posican be singly removed therefrom. One of tion shown in Figure 3 the pointed element 242- the parallel portions 11 is slotted at its lowpierces the adjacent end of the lowermost ciger end as at 13 to receive a substantially arette 1.2, so that when the branch 16 of the bowed flat spring 1 1 which passes beneath lever is elevated, the plate 19 is shifted to the the open bottom of the receptacle to supposition illustrated in Figure 1, and thereby port the cigarettes therein. This spring 1% removes the lowermost cigarette 12 from the open bottom of the receptacle. Just as soon as the cigarette is removed, against the tension of the spring 14, the latter assumes its normal active position to support the remaining cigarettes within the receptacle.
lVhile it is believed that from the foregoing description the nature and advantages of the invention will be readily apparent, I desire to have it understood, that I do not limit myself to what is herein shown and described and that such changes may be resorted to when desired as fall within the scope of what is claimed.
\Vhat is claimed is:
1. A device of the character described comprising a receptacle adapted to contain cigarettes, and including a restricted open lower portion to receive said cigarettes in column like formation, means for supporting said column, a plate projecting from one end of the receptacle, a pin projecting from said plate, a member having an angular-shaped slot receiving said pin, whereby said member is pivotally and slidably mounted on one side of said plate, and constructed to pierce the adjacent end of the lowermost cigarette of the column in one position, and to remove the cigarette from the receptacle when shifted to a reverse position, and means for operating said member.
2. A device of the character described com prising a receptacle adapted to contain cigarettes and including a restricted open lower portion to receive said-cigarettes in columnlike formation, means for supporting said column, a plate projecting-from one end of the receptacle, a pin carried by said plate, a slotted member having an angular-shaped slot receiving said pin, whereby said member is pivotally and slidably mounted on one side of the plate, and including a pointed element projecting from one end thereof and adapted to pierce one end of the adjacent cigarette and to remove it from the receptacle as said "member is moved in reverse directions, and
meansfor operating said member.
3. 'A device of the character described comprising .a receptacle adapted to contain cigarettes, and including a restricted open lower "portion to receive said cigarettes in columnlike formation, means for supporting said column, a plate projecting from one end of the receptacle, a slotted member pivotally and slidably mounted on one side of the plate and including a pointed element projecting therefrom, a lever pivoted on the other side of the plate and having a slot and pin connection with the lower end of the member, whereby the latter can be moved in reverse directions to cause said pointed element to pierce one end of the adjacent cigarette and remove it from the receptacle.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature.
