Patented May 13, 1930 vParr-:Nr ori-*ICE FRANCIS OLIVA'UX, 0F PARIS, FRANCE DISTRIBUTINQ APPARATUS F013. CIGARETTES AND OTHE ARTICLES Application med `April 30, 1927, Serial No. 187,901, and in France May 26, 1926.
This invention relates to a distributing apparatus for cigarettes and other articles such as cigars, matches and the like.
The said distributing apparatus, which comprises a suitable recipient and a cover which is pivotally mounted on the orifice or mouth of the said recipient by suitable means, for instance by a hinge, is characteried by the fact that the said cover is connected lby suitable intermediate elements with a bottom part or holder which is slidable in the said recipient and serves to support the cigarettes, cigars, matches or the like which are placed on end, the several parts being so combined 1&5.v that when the cover is raised to open the apparatus, this will cause the said movable bottom to slide towards the mouth of the said recipient, so that the cigarettes,l cigars, matches or the like will project from the recipient upon a length which will enable them to be readily seized. When the cover is lowered to close the recipient, the said movable bottom part or holder will slide towards the lower end of the apparatus, thuswithdrawing into the said recipient the cigarettes, clgars, matches or the like which rest upon the said movable bottom or holder.
The invention further comprises the following additional features which may be variously combined with the principal characteristic.
At the upper part of said recipient .are disposed one or more chambers, above the said -movable holder; said chambers may have a suilicient size to contain a certain number of articles to be distributed, either in packages or in the loose state, or the chambers may be of small size in order to form individual recesses each containing a single object.
termediate devices connecting thecover with the movable bottom or holder, and the said spring urges the said devices in the proper direction for openingthe cover and sliding the said holder towards the mouth of the recipient.'
A spring is suitably combined with the movable bottom or holder, and it urges the said holder in the suitable direction for the 5 sliding of the holder towards the mouth of A spring is suitably comblned with the in-v the recipient and for the opening of said A closing device with catch release' is combined with the recipient and its cover.
A second distributer in accordance with the invention, and of smaller size, is combined with the said movable holder, in such manner that it may be withdrawn into the recipient together with the objects to be distributed, or may be extended together with such objects; for example, this second distributer may contain matches, whilst the main distri-buter contains cigars or cigarettes.
The said invention is further characterized by the general dis ositions and the details of the apparatus, o which various constructional forms are hereinafter described with reference to the appended drawings, which are not of a limitative nature.
Fig. 1 is an axial section of a cigarette distributer of round shape, in the open position.
Fig. 2 is an analogous view ofthe same distributer in the closed position.
Fig. 3 is a plan view corresponding to Fig. 1.l
Fig. 4 is a horizontal section on ,the line X--X of Fig. 2.
Fig. 5 is a lateral section on a middle. plano Y-Y of Fig. 7, showing a distributer of rectangular shape, in the open position, containing a match distributer which is also in the open position.
Fig. 6 shows the same apparatus with both distributers closed.
Fig. 7 is a plan view corresponding to Fig. 5. l
v Fig. 8 is an elevational view of a section on. a middle plane, showing a distributerprovided with recesses and without a spring.
Fig. 9 is a plan view, with the cover re moved, of a distributer without individual recesses.
Fig. 10 is an elevational View, in section, of a match distributer provided with recesses but without a raising spring.
Fig. l1 is a plan view, with the cover removed, of a distributer without recesses, which is divided into threerchambers.
In the first form of construction, the cigarettes are placed vertically in the recesses 1 and are supported by a sliding plate 2 carried by a lever 3 having in its upper end an aperture 4 in which is slidable the pin 5 which is mounted in a forked bracket 5 secured to the bottom plate 2. The lever:3 is pivotally mounted at 6 at'the lower art of the distributing device and is urge b a spring 7 which tends to pivot it u war y. The bell-crank lever 8 is pivoted at its lower part at 9 to the lever 3, and is pivotally mounted at its upper part at 10 upon a forked bracket 1()a secured-to the cover 10 of the apparatus. D
The operation is as follows, with reference to Figs. 1 and 2. By pushing the button 11, the edge 12 of the cover will be released from its retaining hook 13; the lever 3 rises under the action-of the spring 7, pivoting on the axle 6. The plate 2- will thus be raised, and the cover 16 will pivot on its hinge under the action of the lever 8.
In the construction shown in Figs. 5, 6 and 7, the general functioning of the apparatus is quite the same as before, but a match-distributing device 14 is secured to the plate 2 of the cigarette apparatus, and this device will be raised at the same time as the cigarettes. In the said distributer, the matches are placed vertically in suitable recesses and are raised, when the cover is opened, by means resembling those employed in the cigarette distributer. In the construction herein represented, the spring 7 is replaced by a v.spiral spring 17 surrounding a rod 17l wh1ch is secured to the stationary part of the distributer 14 and on which is slidable the bottom plate 22. The arm 18, analogous to the arm 8, is secured directly to the movable plate 22.
In the two modifications which are shown in Figs. 8 and 10Av and are in general constructed respectively as shown in Fig. 1 and according to a part of Fig. 5-save forl'the springs 7 and 17 which are eliminated-1t is obvious that when the covers are raised, this will also raise the plates 2 and 22, due to the respective action of said covers upon the links 8 and 18.
In Fig. 9, the distributer comprises a single chamber or space. Avertical sleeve 23 protects the link which connects the cover with the raising parts.
In Fig. 11, the distributer comprises two chambers 24 and 25 of suitable size, each being adapted to contain a package of cigarettes, and it further comprises a middle chamber 26 holding matches which are loosely disposed, as well as a recess 27 for the functioning of the link actuating the risin plate which is disposed below the said cham ers.
Obviously, the forms and the accessory dispositions of the several arts of the apparatus hereinbefore descri ed, as well as the dimensions, material, means and details of construction, such as the number and disposition of the said chambers, may be varied without departing from the spirit of the invention.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim is:
