No Drawing. Application March 5, 1934, Serial No. 714,198
4 Claims.
This invention relates to paper making and particularly to a process and composition valuable in making paper from various woods.
One of the advantages of my invention lies 5 in the fact that about 17 per cent more fibre is obtained by using my process than can be obtained by the well-known soda process.
Other advantages will appear to those skilled in the artfrom reading the following specifications. I
In making paper according to the process of my invention I find that the following ingredients are advantageously used and in the proportions indicated, namely:
5 gallons of caustic soda liquor (8 degrees Baum) 14 pounds of green wood (chipped) 2 ounces of pulverized borax 2 ounces of granulated ammonium chloride 2 ounces of oxalic acid 1% ounces of potato starch 1 ounces of sodium sulphate The process of using the mentioned ingredicuts consists in mixing the caustic soda liquor with the borax, ammonium chloride, oxalic acid, potato starch and sodium sulphate, and then pouring the mixture into a digester containing thewood. The mentioned contents of the digester are cooked from two and one-half to three hours at a working steam pressure of 125 pounds. After the wood is cooked the liquor is drawn ofi from the fibre and put through a reclaiming process.
What is claimed is:
1. A mixture for the purpose mentioned, said 5 mixture comprising caustic soda liquor, wood, borax, ammonium chloride, oxalic acid, potato starch and sodium sulphate.
2. A mixture for the purpose mentioned, said mixture comprising the following ingredients in 10 the proportions indicated: 5 gallons caustic soda liquor (about 8 degrees Baum), 14 pounds of wood, 2 ounces of pulverized borax, 2 ounces of ammonium chloride, 2 ounces of oxalic acid, 1 ounces of potato starch, and 1%; ounces of sodium 15 sulphate. Y
3. The process comprising mixing caustic soda liquor with borax, ammonium chloride, oxalic acid, potato starch and sodium sulphate, placing these ingredients and a quantity of wood in a 20 digester, cooking the contents of the digester with steam at high pressure.
4. The process comprising mixing caustic-soda liquor with borax, ammonium chloride, oxalic acid, potato starch and sodium sulphate, placing 25 these ingredients and a quantity of wood in a digester, cooking the contents of the digester with steam at high pressure, and separating the resultant wood pulp from the liquid.
ROBERT THOMAS.
