The invention also is related to smokers pipes embodying constructions whereby the bowl and stem can vbe easily and thoroughly cleaned.

One object of the invention is to provide a smokers pipe of the general character described which shall have a separable bottom for the bowl to which is integrally connected an extension to removably fit the stem of the pipe and constructed to obstruct or retard flow of liquids through the stem, whereby the bowl and stem can be easily and quickly cleaned and liquids willr be retarded from owing through the stem.

Another object is to provide a smokers pipe of 'the character described which shall comprise a minimum number of novel and improved simple parts which can be easily and quickly assembled. Further objects are to provide a smokers pipe which shall have a separable bottom for the bowl which can be connected to and disconnected from the bowl by a simple sliding motion in a direction at an angle tothe axis of the bowl; to provide such a pipeV which. shall have an integral liquid ow retarding extension that can be slid into and out of the opening in the pipe stem simultaneously and in the same operation with the application andremoval of said separable bottom to and from the bowl respectively; and to provide a pipe of this characterV wherein said separable bottom and said extension shall be held in position in the pipe by separable connection of said extension to the bit or mouthpiece of the pipe.

Other objects of the invention are to provide in a pipe of the character described a novel and improved construction and combination of a bowl and a separable bottom therefor; to provide in a smokers pipe a novel and improved device for obstructing the OW of hquld through the Stem bowl, said bottom is formed with an extension v13 which is arranged in the smoke passage 3 of of the pipe and for` collecting such liquid; to

Specificallyv describing the illustrated embodiment of the invention, the reference character 1 designates the main portion of the bowl of the pipe which has an integral stem 2 projecting laterally therefrom at approximately right angles to the axis of the bowl. 'I'he stem 2 has a smoke passage 3 to communicate with the interior of the bowl. The bottom end 4 ofthe bowl is disposed in a plane at approximately right angles to the axis of the bowl, and the stem is connected to the main portion of the bowl beyond said bottom end 4 and has one end 5 disposed adjacent to the bottom end 4 of the main portion of the bowl and at an angle thereto.

A separable bottom 6 is provided for the bowl and is tted in air-tight relation to the bottom f end 4 of the main portionv 1 and the end 5 of -the stem 2. Preferably, as shown, this separable bottom 6 is applicable to and removable from the main portion of the bowl by relative sliding of the main portion and the separable bottom parallel to the plane of the bottom end 4 and respectively toward and from the stem 2. As shown, the bottom end of the main portion 1 of the bowl mayhave a rabb'et '7 and a groove 8, while the separable bottom 6 may have a flange 9 to lit the rabbet 7 and a tongue 10 to t the groove 8. Also,

`the end of the stem 2 may have a groove 11 to receive a tongue 12 on the corresponding end of the separablel bottom 6.

To securely hold the separable bottom 6 on the the stem and has a screw threaded end 14 projecting beyond the outer end of the stem upon which is screw-threaded a mouth piece or bit 15 which has an abutting relation to the end of the stem. With this construction, when the mouth-piece 15 is screwed upon the threaded end 14 of the extension 13, said extension is drawn through the smoke passage and the separable bottom 6 is drawn into snug air-tight engagement with the bottom end of the main portion 1 of the bowl and the end of the stem. rEhe projecting en d 14 of the extension 13 has a smoke passage 16 which communicates with the smoke passage 3 of the stem 2 and a similar passage 17 in the mouth piece.

With this construction, it willrbeseen thatthe removable bottom 6 and the..extension13fmay be applied .to and removed from. the main portion 1 of the bowl and the smoke passage 3 oi the stem, respectively, at the same time and in the ksame operation, by simple sliding of the extension 13 in the smoke passage3 and sliding ofthe separable bottom 6 upon the bottom end of .the main portion 1 of the bowl. Upon removalofthe separable bottom 6 fromv the bowl, the Vbowl can be thoroughly cleaned and the separable bottom .may also be cleaned, and as rthe parts are separated the extension 13 will scrape liquid and solid particles from the walls of the smoke passage 3.

The pipe embodying the invention comprises 4only three simple and inexpensive parts which can be easily and quickly assembled and disassembled, and the construction and vcombination of parts enables the pipe to be easilyand thoroughly cleaned.

While wehave shown and described the invention as embodied incertain details of construction, it should be understood that this is .primarily for the purpose of illustrating the principles of .theinvention and .that many modications and Achanges maybe made in'the details of construc- 'tion without departing from the spirit.ior scope of the invention.

Having thus described our invention, what we claim is:

1. A smokers pipe comprising a bowlhaving a main portion vand a stem `having `a .smoke passage, said main portion being formed at one end adjacent said stem to receivea separable bottom, a separable bottom fitted on `said end of said main portion and having an extension in said .smoke passage in said stem, and a mouthpiece connected tosaid extension and said stem.

2. A smokers pipe comprising a bowl having a main portion and a stem having a smoke passage, said main portion being formed at one end adja- 4cent, said stem to receive a separable bottom, a

separable bottomiitted onsaid end of said main portion and having an extension in said stem which has a screw threaded end projecting beyond the end of the stem, and a mouth piece screw-threaded upon said extension and abutting saidend of the. stem.
