FINGER SUPPORT FOR MANiCURISTS Filed Aug. 9, 1934 Patented Nov. 27, 1934.
PATENT OFFICE FINGER SUPPORT FOR MANICURISTS Kenneth H. Berg'strom, Lawrence, Mass asslgnor to Tyer Rubber Company, Andover, Mom, at corporation of Massachusetts Application August 9, 1934, Serial No. 139,014
6 Claims.
This invention relates to a finger support for use in manicuring operations and the main object in view is the provision of a. simple and eificient finger support which will expose the sides of the finger nail for manicuring treatment.
Another object of the invention is the provision of a support which will hold the finger which is being operated upon in a firm and stable position.
An additional object is the production of a device which can be made at a very low cost.
Other objects of the invention will be described hereinafter. I
In its preferred form, my invention contemplates a. finger support comprising a body preferably of resilient material adapted to stand upright upon a table or other supporting surface and having adjacent its top face a transverse bore which opens out said top face longitudinally said bore to form a pair of jaws for gripping the sides of a finger inserted in. said bore to expose the sides oi the finger nail to manicuring treatment.
In the accompanying drawing, Figure l is a view in perspective of a finger support constructed in accordance with my invention; Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the same; Fig. 3 is a vertical sectional view on line 3--3 in Fig. 2; Fig. i is an end elevation showing the device in operative position with a finger supported therein; and Fig. 5 is a side elevation of the device opened up for the insertion of afinger.
Referring to the drawing, there is shown one embodiment of my invention comprising a body 10, preferably of resilient material such as rubber composition, having parallel front and back faces 12 and it respectively and upwardly converging ends -16 and 18 which are curved toward each other to form the top. Adjacent the top is a transverse bore 20 whichopens out the top longitudinally the bore to form a pair of complementary jaws 22. The bore is preferably tapered inwardly at 21 from the front face 12 toward the rear face it.
The base portion of the body is preferably bi-= furcated in any suitable manner to form a pair of supporting legs 24 and 26 and also to facilitate the opening of the jaws 22 by pressing the two legs together to permit a finger to be inserted in the bore. The end of one of the legs, 24, may, if desired, be provided with a sharp edge which may be used for removing foreign matter from under the finger nails.
In the use of my device, the jaws 22 are opened by pressing the two legs 24 and 26 together, as illustrated in Figure 5, and the finger is placed in the bore between the jaws (Fig. 4) and the pressure released. The jaws thereupon grip the sides and compress the ball of the finger, drawing those sides away from the side edges of the finger nail to expose said edges to treatment. At the same time, the clampingeffect of the jaws holds the exposed portions under a tension which facilitates the manicuring operation.
After the finger has been inserted, the support is then rested on its legs on a table or other suitable supporting surface. The legs diverge in a downward direction sufficiently to afford a firm support for the finger during the manicuring.
Although my device has many advantages for general use by manicurists, it is especially adapted for use by one who is manicuring his or her own It nails because of the firm support and the exposure of the parts afiorded.
It is to be understood that my invention is not to be limited to the form herein shown and described since it may be embodied in other forms it within the scope of the following claims.
What I claim is:
l. in a device of the character described, a body of resilient material having a bifurcated base and a top provided with a bore adjacent to an and opening out said top longitudinally said bore to form a pair of jaws for gripping the sidesof a finger inserted in the bore.
2. In a device of the character described, a
body of resilient material having a bifurcated g5 base and a top provided with a tapered bore adjacent to and opening out said top longitudinally said bore to form a pair of jaws for gripping the sides of a finger inserted in the bore.
3. hi a device of the character described, a pig body of resilient material having a bifurcated base and a curved top provided with a bore adjacent to and openingout said top to form a pair of jaws for gripping the sides of a finger inserted in the bore to expose the sides of the finger nail pg to manicuring treatment.
t. In a device of the character described, a body of resilient material having parallel back and front faces and upwardly converging ends merging into a curved top, said body being provided with a transverse bore adjacent to and opening out the top of said body to form a. pair of jaws for gripping between them a finger inserted in the bore.
5. In a device of the character described, a body of resilient material having parallel front and back faces and a bifurcated base for supporting said body in upright position, said body having its top provided with a transverse bore adjacent to and opening out said top longitudi- 11 2 imam nally said bore to form apair oi jaws for 8 99111! bore adjacent to and opening out said top longia er inserted in said bore to expose the sides tudinally said bore to form a pair of Jaws adapted o! finger nail to treatment. to grip the sides of a finger inserted in said bore 6. device of the character described compristo expose the sides of the nail on said finger to in: a body of resilient and compressible material treatment.
