HOSE SUPPORTER CLIP Filed July 6, 1933 ATTORNEY l 'ateiited Apr. 24, 1934 TES PATENT OFFIE HOSE SUPPORTER CLIP Application July 6, 1933, Serial No. 679,155
2 Claims.
The invention relates to improvements in hose supporter and garter clasps and has particular reference to a clamping device that may form the stocking engaging member of a nether garment, stocking supporting combination or it may form the attaching clasping member of a hose supporting garter.
The object of the invention resides in the providing of a clasp that may be attached to the supporting tapes of a corsage or stay combination or form the attaching means for a stocking garter and consists of a supporting plate through which the tape is laced or threaded to eliminate sewing, said plate being of a flat nature without protrusions, and having formed therein means for holding said tape at adjusted points thereon and means adapted to receive one or more hinged members for clamping the clasp to said tape and for attaching the clasp to said tape and for at- 2 taching the clasp to the stocking in a manner to prevent a set strain on the stocking, the result of which eliminates the formation of stocking runs, and of a nature when clamped into set position with relation to the supporting tape and stocking to provide a fiat and suficient holding attachment Without interrupted and projecting surfaces thusly producing a clamping and supporting clasping means that will not be discernible through ones attire and one that cannot injure the wearer by contact during either a sitting or standing posture.
Another object of the invention lies in the producing of a combination clasp or clamping device for hose supporting garments or for garters per se wherein the attaching element consists of two or more flat plates, one of which serves as the supporting means for the garment tape, and the supporting means for the stocking top and the other of which being hingeably attached to said supporting member serves as the clamping attaching member for the stocking top and by reason of the wide reception surfaces of each of the engaging members of the clasp provide a supporting structure that will engage and grip a wide area of the stocking strands thereby evenly distributing the grip of the clasp to provide a supporting means that will not tear the stocking nor injure the fibre thereof to cause runs etc., said clasp further producing a means for supporting the stocking evenly and smoothly against the body of the wearer.
In the following there is described the general embodiment of the invention the features of which are more clearly defined hereinafter in the claims.
7 5 In the drawing Fig. 1 is an elevation of a supporting tape forming part of a nether garment showing the clasp mounted thereon and fastened or attached to a stocking top; Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the structure shown in Fig. 1; Fig. 3 is a vertical sectional View of the structure shown in Figs. ,1 and 2; Fig. 4 is a rear or back elevation of the clasp; Fig. 5 is a face elevation of a modified form of clasp structure showing a simplified form of clasp structure comprised of a two piece combination, one of said members being the tape supporting attaching member and having hingeably mounted thereon a clasp arranged to serve as the stocking fastening member of the clasp, and Fig. 6 is a side elevation of the modified form of structure shown in Fig. 5 of the drawing.
Similar numerals of reference indicate similar parts throughout the several views of the drawmg.
In the drawing 1 designates the lower portion of a corsage, stay or nether garment having attached thereto and depending therefrom a garter supporter strap or tape 2. The clasp 3 comprises a fiat supporting member 4 of any contour or design and made of a light metal alloy having cut therein transverse slots 5 and 6 the upper of which has its upper edge serrated in teeth '7 to form the gripping or stay means for that portion of tape 2 that is laced or threaded therethrough the free end of which depends therefrom at 8 to form a protective means for the metal member 4 in order to provide means whereby no metal will touch the skin of the wearer. Member 4 of the clasp is apertured at 9 to provide means that is rolled up to form bearings 10 thereon, the lower end thereof being curled back on itself at 11 to form the reception gripping means of said clasp.
It is to be noted that the circular rim of the supporting member and the clasping rim of the attaching clasp extends the full Width of each of said members and thereby produces a wide gripping surface and. one that takes a large surface of the stocking eliminating any possibility of tearing the stocking or rupturing one or more of the threads of the stocking fabric to start rupture and runs therein.
Referring to Figs. 5 and 6 of the drawing the structure shown therein constitutes a modified form of clasp structure, but in reality comprises a simplified form of the three piece garter clasp and consists of a supporting member 21 slotted at 22 to receive the garter tape 23 and having formed on its upper edge by turning back upon itself part of a cut out section thereof bearings 2 4 having mounted therein a pin 25 having hinged thereon a depending clamp member 26, the body of which is likewise concave by form to provide spring action therein, the lower end of member 21 being provided with a rim lip 2'7 and the member 26 being provided with a tongue 28 adapted with the curled over rim of body member 21 to form a wide reception gripping means 29 for a stocking top.
By a slight pressure on the slightly bulging face of the gripping clasps and by the slight starting of the tongue thereon the clasp engaging members are opened, releasing with ease the supported member eliminating all possibility of the breaking of finger nails and injury to the hand.
It is quite obvious that the structure, in all instances may be varied in many Ways without departing from the spirit of the invention.
What I claim and desired to secure by Let-' ters Patent of the United States, is:
1. A device of the character described comprising a supporting member having a lower edge section, said supporting member having slots cut therein arranged to receive the supporting tape of a garment supporter means, a clamping member hinged thereto for detachably and adjustably securing said supporting member on said garment supporting means, and a clamping member hinged on said supporting member having a concave spring like body and having formed thereon a gripping rim and a releasing tongue arranged to clamp the top of a stocking between said gripping rim and the lower edge section of said supporting member.
2. A device of the character described comprising a supporting plate member, means formed therein arranged to have a garter tape laced therethrough and upon which said member is adjustable, a clamp member mounted on said supporting member provided with means adapted to engage said garter tape and the upper edge of said supporting member, a gripping rim formed H on the lower edge of said supporting plate mem- 10g ber, and a clamping member hingeably mounted on said supporting member having a resilient body and having formed thereon a gripping means and a releasing tongue arranged to detachably secure between said gripping rim on said support- 5 ing member and said gripping means on said clamping member a large surface area of a stocking top, the reception gripping surfaces on both of said gripping members being substan- W tially the total width of both of said members thereof.
