Description

Feb 2? 340 c. H. 'CQX STADIUM SEAT Filed Nov. 18, 1930 Patented Feb. 27, 1934 STADIUM SEAT Charles H. Cox, Philadelphia, Pa.
Application November 18, 1930 Serial No. 496,394
2 Claims.
The subject of my invention is a stadium seator back for the fiat benches commonly provided in stadia for football, baseball and track competitions.
My device consists of a back to be attached to a fiat bench. It consists of a curved back which has two rods axially fixed but rotatably mounted thereon, said rods having a bent portion spaced from said back and, beyond said bent portions,
19 hooks adapted to engage with the front of-the bench for which my device forms a back.
For a. further exposition of my invention reference may be had to the annexed drawing and specification at the end whereof my invention will be specifically pointed out and claimed.
In the drawing,
Figure 1 is a perspective view showing my device attached to a bench.
Figure 2 is a plan view of my device.
Figure 3 is a rear elevation of the device as shown in Figure 2.
Figure 4 is a detail view showing the rod attached to the back.
In the embodiment of my invention chosen for illustration in the drawing there is shown a seat or bench 1, such as is commonly provided in a stadium. This bench forms no part of my invention but my device is an attachment adapted to be connected thereto to form a back for the flat bench.
In the embodiment shown my device consists of a back 2 of wood, fiber, composition or other suitable material. The back 2 may conveniently be curved as shown in the drawing. To the back 2 there are attached, adjacent either end, curved rods 3, which have spaced from the back 2, bent portions 4 and, at the opposite ends from said back, books 5 adapted to engage the front of the seat or bench. The rods 3 are attached to the back 2, as is best seen in Figure 4, by means of fastenings 6, which are attached to the backs 2 by screws or other means and which have an opening through which one of the ends '7 of the rods 3 projects so that the rods 3 are axially fixed with respect to the back 2 but are rotatable with respect thereto. This rotatable movement of rods 3 permits the rods and the forward portions thereof containing the books 5 to be folded into the plane of the back 2, as is indicated in Figure 2. This permits of convenient storage of the devices in a much smaller space than would otherwise be the case.
I do not intend to be limited in the practice of my invention save as the scope of the prior art and of the attached claims may require.
I claim:
1. A stadium seat including a back of solid material, fastenings attached to the rear portion of said back and each having an opening in its rear face, and rods extending between said back and said fastenings and having ends bent from the axis of said rods and extending through said openings in said fastenings so that said rods are axially fixed but rotatably mounted relative to said back, said rods having bends intermediate their length and spaced from said back, and having hooks at their ends spaced from said bends, the portion of said rods between said bends and said hooks serving as a seat engaging portion.
2. A stadium seat comprising a wooden. back, a pair of rods turnably secured to the back and each having a bent portion spaced from the back and having hooks at the opposite ends from the back, and means for preventing the back from sliding on the rods in either direction.
