Description

. Jan. 23, 1934. w. w. WUTZKE ET AL COMBINATION POWDER CONTAINER AND PUFF Filed Dec. 7, 1932 Patented den. 23, 1934 1,944,204 CQMBINATION PQWDER CONTAINER AND PUFF Waldemar W. Wutzke and John J. Mitchell, De-
trcit, Mich; said Mitchell assignor to said Application December '7, 1932. Serial No. 646,112
4 Claims.
It is obviously generally known that face powder is indispensable for women and particularly the powder puff, some form of which is necessary to carry upon the person at all times.
In the various old methods employed the puff is supplied with as much powder as it will contain for temporary use, this quantity however is far from being adequate for any great period, consequently the supply of powder is exhausted when it is probably most seriously required.
The outstanding advantage of our invention is that we have completely overcome this difficulty as we have provided a neat compact device having a metal container of sufficient capacity to contain a quantity of face powder. The container is substantially secured to a disc of fabric and a cotton-like material is secured to the underneath surface of the disc and the container being bottomless the powder is sifted through the puff as the device is shaken for this purpose.
It will become readily apparent during the course of the following detailed description, iliustrated throughout the accompanying drawing, and in the appended claims, that our invention possesses further advantages for the intended purpose.
With reference to the drawing, which forms an important part of our disclosure, reference being had to the designating characters which are similar to those in the specification:
Figure l is a top plan View of the complete invention, showing the container normally open.
Figure 2 is a partial top plan View of the invention, indicating the container in a closed position.
Figure 3 is a greatly enlarged longitudinal section of the invention taken substantially upon line 3--3 of Figure 1.
Figure 4 is a top plan view of the complete invention showing a modified material for the fabric disc.
The invention comprises a metal face powder container having sleeve 1, which is formed as shown in Figure 3 and having peripheral flange 2 formed thereon. The top edge of sleeve 1 being slightly inwardly turned as at 3. Fabric disc 4 is provided and has a round opening in the center thereof to permit the close passage of sleeve 1 therewith. Cup shaped member 5 is also provided and has peripheral flange 6 and is adapted to telescopically engage sleeve 1 with disc 4 intermediate flanges 2 and 6 as indicated. Cap '7 is rotatably secured to the convex top surface of cup member 5 and is retained in this relation by virtue of the peripheral formation 8 of cap '7 extending over a plurality of raised bosses 9 of cup member 5. Opening 10 is provided in cap '7 and cup member 5 respectively in order that both of said openings will be perfectly aligned when the container is in a maximum opened position as shown in Figure 1, and it is understood that by rotating cap 7 approximately 180 degrees in either direction the container is completely closed as clearly indicated in Figure 2. The advantage of this type of enclosure for the container is that it is very easily operated and is positively closed or opened at will. It is further understood that opening 10 may be partially opened if preferred. Referring more particularly to Figure 3 it is clearly observed that the face powder will occupy the position as semi-indicated at A and that a quantity of cotton-like material 11 is provided with cheese cloth 12 suspended in said material Where indicated, and which permits said powder to sift through the material consistent with Hi the manner in which the device is shaken for this purpose. It is also observed that the peripheral edge of material 11 and disc a are continuously stitched'as at 13.
Referring to Figure 4; a material of a different fabricated nature is shown as a modified form for the disc of the device, otherwise the construction thereof remains the same.
While we have described and illustrated herein a single embodiment of our invention the same is nevertheless susceptible to certain minor changes in the details of construction or of the esign, provided this becomes necessary during any probable further developments for the market, however in any event a departure from the general principle as disclosed would be consistently avoided.
Having thus fully described our invention, what we claim as new is:
1. In a device of the character described, a face powder container, the said container having a sleeve with a peripheral flange formed thereon, a fabricated disc for the device, also a cup shaped member, said member having a similar peripheral flange formed thereon and adapted to telescopically engage the said sleeve with the aforesaid disc disposed intermediate both of the said flanges, for the express purpose as set forth.
2. In a device of the character described, a face powder container having a sleeve, a cup shaped 19 member adapted to telescopically engage the said sleeve, a cap rotatably secured to the said cup shaped member, an opening within the top of the said cup shaped member and in the top of the said cap, the said openings to align when the container is in an opened position and the opening in the said member to be closed responsive to the rotatable movement of the said cap, also means upon the cup shaped member for retaining said cap and member in their operative relation comprising a peripheral flange upon said cap to interlock a corresponding flange upon said cup shaped member.
3. In a device of the character described, a face powder container and a fabricated disc for the same, the said disc having an opening in the center thereof and adapted to receive the said container in a permanent fixed relation, a cottonlike material secured to the entire underneath surface of the said disc and forming therebya powder puff, a disc-like portion of perforated material within the said puIT for permitting the powder to sift through the puff responsive to the v1- bration of the device, for the intended purpose.
4. In a combination powder container and puff, a powder container comprising a sleeve, a cup shaped member adapted to telescopically engage the said sleeve, a cap adapted to rotatably engage said cup shaped member, a fabricated disc for the container, means for securing the said container to the said disc, means whereby the container may be manually opened and closed at will, a powder puff secured to the underneath surface of the said disc and means Within the said pufi for sifting the powder within the aforesaid container through the puff responsive to vibrating the device for the purpose as described.
