Be it known that I, THEODORE W. Fos'rrm, a citizen of the United States, residing at Providence, in the county of Providence and State of Rhode Island, have invented new and useful Improvements in Vanity Cases, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in vanity cases and more particularly pertains to a vanity case for use with loose powder. 7

The primary object of the invention is to provide improved means for retaining the powder in position in the case, which means permits the powder to readily engage the puff, and which also maintains engagement with the surface of the powder regardless of the quantity or depth thereof so as to hold the powder in position.

A further object of the invention is to provide powder holding means which directs the powder toward the center of the case where same can more readily be caused to engage the puff.

The invention still further aims to provide means of the character mentioned, which is of simple, compact and economical construction and which is embodied in an unitary structure devoid of moving parts.

In proceeding in accordance with the present invention, a case of any desired form or shape is employed, having a body 1 and a top 2 hinged at 3 and provided with the customary latch 4.

A screen, mesh or other foraminous member 5 has a marginal metal binding edge or clip 6 aflixed thereto.

The clip which conforms in configuration to that of the margin of the screen is of substantially S-shape in cross section and has its upper loop 7 clamped about the marginal edge of the screen, while its lower loop 8 is clamped about the inner marglnal edge of a ring like flexible member 9 preferably of felt. The member 9 may be of tapered cross-section, with its widest portion at its periphery, and has the latter formed to snugl engage or fit against a ring-like side wal 10 secured in the body and conforming in outline to that of the periphery of the felt member 9. The cover 2 preferably fits within the wall 10.

The screen, it will thus be seen seats on the surface of the powder and as such surface through use approaches the bottom of the body, the screen automatically follows same. The screen and the felt member are thus supported by the powder and the felt member has snug frictional contact at its periphery with the wall 10 and prevents the powder from moving upwardly therepast. Consequently the powder can only pass through the screen, which latter is disposed at the center of the body and accordingly directs the powder onto the center of the puff P.

The screen follower may be readily removed by engaging the same with a pin or the like to replenish the powder supply, and likewise may be easily replaced, due in each instance to its frictional securement.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1. In a vanity case, a body having a side wall, a screen, a substantially S-shaped clip having its upper loop clamped about the margin of the screen, and a ring-like felt member of outwardly flared cross-section clamped within the lower loop of the clip and having its peripheral edge frictionally engaged with the side wall of the body.

2. In a vanity case, a body having a side wall, a screen, a felt member seating on the surface of the powder and secured to and extending outwardly beyond the periphery of the screen and having its periphery frictionally and movably engaged with the side wall of the body, and means to connect the felt member to the screen.

3. In combination with a vanity case having a body formed to contain powder, a foraminous follower, and a flexible imperforated member carried by the follower and extending outwardly from the periphery thereof, andfrictionally and movably engaged with the body and formed to seat on the surface of the powder.
