STOVE CLOSURE Filed Jan. 24, 1930 2 Sheets-Sheet 2 Inventor flmmih A iiorney Patented Qct. 13, 1931 JOHN-M; SNYDER, or FAIRFIELID, ILLINOIS srovE cLosun-n Application filed January 24, 1930. Serial No. 423,107.
This invention relates to an improved temporary removable closure for use in association with door frames of various; types of stoves, furnaces, boilers, and the like. 7 a
The invention has more specific reference to a simple and economicalclosure in the nature of a guard or shield, which is intended to be placed on the doorframe during the night so that'the doormay be left open, so 10 that an appropriate draft may be secured, and so that the combustible materials in the fire chamber will be prevented from falling out through the door opening.
Briefly stated, the invention is predicated 5 upon a closure appliance including a-p'late having a screened opening therein, together with suitably'constructed and conveniently operated retaining means for maintaining the closure in the doorframe overnight, or at any other time desired.
In the'drawings: v
Figure 1 is an elevational view showing a conventional stove with the appliance in place.
Figure 2 is an inside the appliance.
Figure 3 is an edge view showing the-arouate configuration.
Figure is a cross 30 of Figure 2. I I
Figure 5 is a similar sectional view on the line 5-5 ofFigure2. a
In the drawings, in Figure 1, the stove is generally represented by the reference charelevational I view of The improved closure or guard appliance is generally represented by the reference character 9. v As before stated, the appliance comprises a metal plate, whose imperforate or solid portion is indicated by the'numeral 10. "The lower portion is formedwith a rectangular hole in which a closing screen 11 is arranged. The appllance is of general arcuate configuration. and rectangular outline, but may vary 1 in form to permit it to be adapted todifierent kindsand shapes of door openings in c section on the line tcter 6, the door frame at 7 and the doc r8.
vide a turn button, including a stem or shaft portion 12, and an operating knob 13. The stem is rotatable in a suitable bearing hole formed on the plate,.and on the inner end thereof is a cross head 14 which formsa connection between a pair of retaining links 15 which function as latches.
The inner ends of these are pivotally connected to the opposite ends of the cross heads 15 and the outer ends extend through and beyond guide keepers 16.
v The reference character 17 designates a tensionmg and retaining spring for the turnbutton and numerals 18 represent stops for the link members 15. Y
In practice theclosure is placed in position on the doorframe, as seen in Figure 1, at which time the turnbutton is arranged to project the free end portions of the latches 15 into the rim or surrounding edge portion of the doorframe; This holds the appliance inposltion, and allows the door 8 to be swung.
' ing of the invention and features.
There fore, a more lengthy description is regarded as unnecessary, Minor changes in shape,
I claim .A removable c losure for a stove opening comprising a plate including a solid portion and an opening, a screen covering the opening, said solid portion restricting the opening of the stove, a pair of latch members slidably arranged on the inner face of the plateengaging the inner walls; ofthe stove opening when the plate is placed 'in said opening and an operating member passing through the'solid'portion of the plate and connected with the latch members for pro-- jiecting and retracting the same.
In testimony w hereof I affix my signature.
'JOI-IN M. SNYDER.
