v The particular .object of my invention, broadly stated, is to provide means for maintaining a furnace door in a partially opened position and specificallyto provide means in connection with -fluid operated doors to crack or maintain the same in predetermined j partially opened position, said means acting to prevent thedoor operating fluid pressure from returning themechanism to normal or closed position. To this end; I provide the said; fluid pressure .mechanism with means to engageia Emovablelelement thereof, said means acting against-the fluid pressure and preventing theclosing of the door beyond a certain amount, said means being movable .toj .and"fr,om=-operative position at will.

The, said pawl is adapted to be adjustably locked within either groove by means of the spring 25 which surrounds the outwardly projecting end of the shank 23 and which is maintained in position under compression by the washer and key 26. The rectangular foot 24: of; the said pawl is adapted'to closely fit between the side walls of the grooves 19 and 20 so as to be held from turning therein when in either position.
Thegroove' 20 is in ,alinement with the clevis pin l5and the end otthe foot 2% when a in vertical position is adapted to engage the said pin and hold the samefrom upward movement. The length of the foot 24 is preferably so adjusted as to engage the clevis pin and arrest the movement of the piston rod 13 when the doors are cracked or separated a distance of four inches. It is to be understood, however, that this distance may be varied by lengthening or shortening the said foot 24: so as to hold the doors in any desired position. If desired the end of the said foot may be curved as shown at 27 so as to conform to the curvature of the clevis pin 15.

spring 25 thereupon forcing the foot 24 into the said groove. The door mechanism is then'releasedf and on the upward movement of the'pistonirod- 13 the cracking pawl 22 engages the 511115 and arrests the doors in spaced relation. To return'the pawl 22to normal position the doors are again openedand the operation'reversed. g
Having now described my invention, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patentisi p 1'. The combination with a fire door and fluid controlled means for opening and closing the same, of means for maintaining'said door in a predetermined open position, said last named means being mounted on said first named'meansand adapted to be inter posed between parts thereof.

The COIIlblDittlOIl with a'fire door comprising a plurality of slidingmembers and fluid controlled mechanism for operating said sliding members, and means movable to operative and inoperative positions and adapted when in operative position to engage an element of said mechanism to prevent the closing of said members beyond a predeterminedamount.

The combination with a fire door comprising a pair of sliding door members and fluid operating mechanism-for opening and closing the same, said mechanism including a cylinder and means comprising a rotatable spring pressed lever carried by said cylinder 7 and adapted to be rotatedto engage. a portion 01 said mechanism to prevent the 010s ing of said door members.
6. The combination with a fire door and fluid controlled means for opening and closing the same, of spring pressed means movable to and from operative position, said means being adapted to engage a portion of said fluid controlled mechanism to prevent the closing of said door, and means formed on said fiuidpressure means for locking said spring pressed means in operative position.

The combination with a fire door comprising a pair of sliding door members, and fluid operated mechanism for opening and closing the same, said mechanism including 7 a cylinder, a rotatable L-shaped lever carried by said cylinder and adapted in one position to engage a. portion of said mechanism to prevent the closing of said door members; 8.
