Application. filed December 5, 1980. Serial No. 500,162.
This invention relates to improvements in combs, and more particularly to a hair wave comb. v
Among the principal. objectswhich the present invent-ion has in .view` are: to provide an improved comb which will produce a Wave to the. hair similar to a Marcel; to provide iy comb which willbe non-infiammable when heat is applied tothe hair; to provide a comb il which will be resilient and flexible to easily apply to the hair; to secure simplicity Vof construction and cheapne'ss to manufacture; and to obtain` other advantages and results as may be brought outin the following de- 15 scription.
In the drawings: Figure l is a front elevation of my improved comb;
Figure 2 is a sectional view shown-as taken 20 on the line 2-2 of Figure l; and
Figure 3 is a similar sectional view shown as t-aken on the line 3--3 of Figure 1.
In the description: Heretofore, it has been the practice to man- 3') ufacture combs of inflammable material, and when a heated implement for producing a-curl or the like was applied, a bad effect resulted,
such as causing the hair to burn and otherwise cause 1n] ury to the person vwho was having her 3" hair dressed. To overcome this effect I haVe' invented a comb which will produce the required results and prevent any hazardous possibilities such as burning the hair, scalp 3 and otherwise causingany inconvenience.
In the specific embodiment of the invention illustrated in the said drawing, the'` reference numeral l0 indicates the ridge or body of my improved comb. Said comb including the .zo ridge or body may be constructed `of a nonmflammable material, preferably of a light metal, such as aluminum, chromium.` steel, and the like, to insure flexibility and resiliency of the comb when applied to the hair. A pluf ra-llty of depending members Q? teeth 11 prg-l Vject downwardly from the body 10 of the comb( In practice, the teeth 11 are preferablyv integral with the body portion and are wavy to insure a better contact with the hair,`and a wavy eiit'ect thereon when applied thereto. -As here shown the said teeth are preferablyiat in the general direction of the face of the comb and the wavyiefect is obtained by forming the edges of the teeth toward each other of wavy shape, the wavy shape of the edge of one tooth being of corresponding wavy shape to the edge next thereto of the adjoining tooth, said teeth 11 adjacent the lower portions thereof, are preferably taperedto give a pointed effect, which may in practice, when inserted in the hair, tend to spread the tresses V more readily.
The body portion or ridge 10 is preferably x formed with a longitudinal bead 12 pressed Y outwardly from the general surface on one j side of the comb and correspondingly de pressed on the other side of the comb, as at 13. This construction not only reinforces the comb, but also enables the same to be mor readily and securely gripped. l As will be noted from` Figure 1,' the con tour of the comb is preferably of a partially oval or other curved shape, so that it may be readily applied to t the head of a person. The flexibility and resiliency of the material readily permits insertion in the hair of any degree of smoothness, roughness, thickness, or other characteristic, and when inserted will remain there to then permit the use of a heated element for completing the dressing of the hair. It is to be understood that owing to the' non-inflammable materialv used in the construction of the comb, no hazardous results will occur when the heated element is applied, and the comb may remain in the hair until the desired wave to the hair has been yaccomplshed. In the claim 9 rA comb as characterized, comprising a body portion with teeth depending therefrom, said teeth being substantially Hat in a direction ofthe general surface of the comb and having wavy edges between the teeth, said teeth 5 being equally spaced apart for easy insertion in the hair, and said body portion being curved to it the head and having a longitudinal bead projecting from one side thereof for the entire length of the comb and havin a f H, corresponding depression on the other side thereof both for reinforcing the comb -and for obtaining asepure-grip thereof, `x l1said 'parti b eilg integral and of non-infiammabie materr1a
