This invention is an improvement in bathing caps. Its object is to provide a bathing cap with a pocket adapted to hold small arti cles such as a packet of paper matches, cigarettes, a, dry handkerchief. The object of the pocket is tokeep the articles dry while the bather is swimming or engaged in water sports, etc. Moreover, the articles are kept readily accessible without removing the cap from the head or without possibility of dripping water from the upper part of the cap into the pocket when the pocket is opened to put'in or take out articles.

A still further object is to provide a stretchable elastic closure that can be pulled away from the cap proper to open the pocket and will close and remain water-tight when released.

With these objects in view the invention comprises the devices described and claimed and the equivalents thereof.

The cap proper is preferably an ordinary bathing cap 1 usually made of sheet rubber or other water-proof material and provided around its marginal edge with an elastic band, a drawing string or other suitable binding 2 adapted to bind the margin snugly around the head of the wearer in known manner.

My improvement is applied to a cap of the kind referred to by afiixing to it a piece ofrubber or fabric material having an elastic lower edge 8, 3a and shaped to define an inverted pocket 1 to receive articles 5, 5a, its

sealed marginal edges 6, 6a preferably being I secured to the cap by vulcanizing, cementing or otherwise, as in Figs. 1 to 5, although the edges may be unattached, as in Fig. 6. T he part3, 3a of the lowermost margin, defining the. opening or mouth of the pocket is left unsecured and is provided with a binding strip of elastic material whereby the pocket mouth closes in clasping relation with the margin of the cap or with the headband, if the cap is provided with a head band. The flexible margin of the pocket keeps articles in the pocket and keeps water out.

The cap may be worn with the inverted elastic-mouthed pocket at the front, as indicated in Fig. 1, or it may be at the side, or in any other desired location.

The'pocket may be small in comparison with the size of the cap, as in Figs. 4 and 5, or it may include a large part of the area of the cap or even the whole of it, as shown in Figs. 2 and 3,.without'departing from my invention as set forth in the claims.

When the pocket is small, as in Fig. 4, it

may be unitedto the external surface of the cap as in Figs. 4 and 5, or to its internal surface, or inside the cap and fastened to it by I its mouth only, as in Fig. 6. When the pocket is arranged to include the entire area of the cap, as in. Fig. 2, it is preferably made by using two ordinary caps nested, their marginal edges secured together by cementing, vulcanizingor otherwiseto provide a watertight seam, a part of the marginal edge 3 being left unattached'to provide the pocket mouth. i I

Each of the forms illustrated provides in conjunction with the bathing cap proper a pocket that is invertedso as to shed water, elastic-mouthed to yieldingly clasp the head of the wearer so as to prevent entrance of water, and stretchable to permit the pocket to be pulled open for the, insertion or removal of articles. I

The contents of the pocket, if of soft material, such as a packet. of cigarettes or a handkerchief, comprises a protecting pad for the wearers head, reducing the liability of injury, for example, while diving.

. Having thus described my invention what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent i. A bathing cap,'an inverted pocket for said cap comprising a second cap nested therein, the lower marginal portions of said caps secured together by water-tight seams excepting a portion that defines the mouth of the pocket, the marginal edge of the pocket orifice being of elastic material for the purposes set forth.

2. A bathing cap of waterproof material having a head band, apocket piece united in inverted position to the cap by water-tight seams, the lower marginal portions of the pocket piece and cap overlapping and together defining a pocket opening, at least one of said marginal portions being of elastic 15 material and arranged to be stretched into water-tight yielding engagement with the other marginal portion when the cap is in use, thereby defining an inverted pocket for the reception of articles, the opening of said 20 pocket being normally held closed against the entrance of water.
