My invention relates to a new and useful improvement in a boiler cleaner, and particularly that class of boiler cleaners in which a cleaning uid is discharged from a rotatable blower unit in such manner as to clean the boiler tubes of soot and ashes.
One of the objects of the invention is the provision in a boiler cleaner of this class of means for simultaneously rotating or rocking a pair of blower units each of which is mounted upon a separate boiler.
Another cleaner of this class, of means for connecting rotatable units mounted on separate boilers so that the same may be free to move universally relatively to each other.
Another object is a provision in boiler cleanersof this class of means for rotating several blower units in a plurality of boilers from the same position.
Other objects will appear hereinafter.

The invention is particularly adaptable for use in marine boilers7 whichv are installed in batteries and positioned so closely together thatthere is very little space between the individual boilers.- Owing to the compact method of installing marine boilers it is often impracticable to install the usual blower units in the alley way between the boilers so that the unitsmay be rota-ted or rocked manually. Securely fastened to head 12 is tubular member 13 to which is fixedly attached a collar 14, said member 13 being positioned within the opening 18, formed in wall 15 of the boiler. Slidably positioned in member 13 is blower unit 16 which projects into the interior of the boiler setting and to the outer end of which is fixedly attaced a cap 17 which is provided in with openings 18 to permit the passage of steam from the interior of head A12 to interior of unit 16. Securely fastened to cap 17 is a shaft 19 which 'a cap 12 mounted on the head 12. A gland 12 serves to maintain packingv 19 in snug engagement with shaft 19 so as to prevent escape of steam around said shaft. The outer end of said lshaft is positioned in a socket formed in shaft'22 and is secured in said socket by means of a pin 21 inserted through said shaft and positioned in longitudinal elongated vslots formed in shaft 22. The pipe 24 extends across the alley way between the boilers and is connected by means of a suitable pin to a shaft 19a similar to the shaft 19, which serves to rotate or rock the corresponding blower unit in the opposite boiler. The connection of the pipe 24 to this shaft is made by means of a pin 21a in the end of the shaft, which pin engages in transversely extending diametrically opposed slots 2lb in the pipe 24, as shown. There is ample clearance for the shaft 19a where it fits in the pipe 24 thus permitting relative movement of the oppositely aligned boiler settings, without binding the blower unit driving means.
Mounted loosely upon a shaft 25 which is journaled in bearings mounted upon platform 27 and secured to boilers 7 and 7 are wheels 26 each of which is connected by means of a suitable chain 28 to one of the sprocket wheels 23.
When it is desired to clean the boilers, the valve 11 which controls the unit it is desired to operate, is opened and steam is admitted to the head. In operation, steam is generally admitted to a pair of co-ordinated heads, although this is not necessary. In order to rotate the unit the operator stands on platform 27 and rotates the corresponding sprocket wheel 26. It will be noted that the operator in rotating sprocket wheel 26, causes a rotation of blower units simultaneously.
The purpose of having the connection between the co-ordinated units as already described is to allow the movement of said units relatively to each other as contraction and expansion takes place. Inasmuch as this expansion and contraction is not uniform, the units will not always move relatively to each other in the same manner. This method of connection also provides against binding of the driving shafts tending to result from the possible longitudinal movement of the units within the boiler settings, and from relative movement of the two opposite boiler settings.
While I have illustrated and described the preferred form of construction I do not wish to be restricted to precise details of construcbut desire to avail myself of such modifications and changes as will come within the scope of the appended claims.
Having thus described my invention, which I claim is new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
l. In a boiler cleaner system, a pair of rotatable blower units mounted upon separate boilers, means for connecting said units to each other so as to permit increment of san units relatively to each other to provide for ex iansion and contraction of the units independently of each other, and means for rotating said units simultaneously.
2. In a boiler cleaner system, a plurality of boilers each having a plurality of blower units mounted thereon, means for connecting the blower units on each boiler to the substantially axially aligned blower units of another boiler and means arranged between said blower units for rotating said substantially alined blower units simultaneously.
3. In a boiler cleaner system including a plurality of boilers, a rotatable blower unit for each boiler, commonmeans for rotating said units together, said blower units being aligned and connected so as to permit relative movement.
4. In a boiler cleaner system, a plurality of pairs of blower units for separate boilers, the blower units of each pair being respectively mounted for rotation within said separate boilers respectively, the blower units of each of said pairs being in substantially axial alignment and connected for simulta neous rotation, and operating means arranged between the blower units of each pair whereby said pairs of blower units may be selectively rotated.
5. In a boiler cleaner system for a plurality of boilers, a plurality of rotatable blower units for each boiler, the said units being arranged in pairs with the unit of one boiler in alignment with the corresponding unit of the other boiler, each blower unit being rotatable about its own axis, means for operably connecting together corresponding aligned units of each boiler, and means for selectively operating the pairs of units, the units of each pair being operated simultaneously.
6. A device of the character described, comprising a pair of tubular blower pipes, mounted for rotation in separate boilers, each being rotatable about its own axis and being adapted to discharge cleaning fluid for boiler cleaning purposes, and means connecting together said pipes with their axes aligned, said means providing for relative movement of said blower pipes during the operation thereof to compensate for the dis tortion of the blower pipes incident to the operation of the same.
7. A device of the character described, comprising a pair of tubular blower units, each adapted to discharge cleaning {iuid for boiler cleaning purposes, and means for conneeting together said units with their axes aligned, l means permitting relative longitudinal movement of the units to provide for their independent expansion and contraction.
8. A device of the character described, comprising a pair of tubular blower units, each adapted to discharge cleaning fluid for boiler cleaning purposes, and means for con necting together said units with their axes aligned, said means permitting relative longitudinal movement of the units to provide for their independent expansion and contraction, said units being respectively rotatably mounted in adjacent walls of separate and adjacent boilers.
9. A device of the character described, comprising a pair of tubular blower units, each adapted to discharge cleaning fluid for boiler cleaning purposes, and means for connecting together said units with their axes aligned, said means permitting relative longitudinal movement of the units to provide lfor their independent expansion and contraction, said units being respectively rotatably mounted in adjacent walls of separate and adjacent boilers, and means for imparting simultaneous rotation to said units.
10. In a boiler cleaner system for a plurality of boilers, a plurality of pairs of aligned blower units, the units of each pair being rotatably mounted through adjacent walls of adjacent boilers respectively, means for connecting together corresponding units of each pair, a gear carried by each of said connections, a shaft, a plurality of gears mounted on said shaft and flexible driving members connecting said last named gears withthe gears of the pairs of units respectively. y
11. The combination with a pair of substantially aligned rotatable blower elements, of means connecting saidV elements for coordinate movement, said means providing for relative movement of said elements with respect to each other to provide for expansion and contraction of the elements.
12. The combination with a pair of substantially aligned rotatable blower elements,

13. In a boiler cleaner, a blower element adapted to discharge jets of cleaning fluid, a member for moving said blower element to direct said jets adjacent surfaces to be cleaned, said member being normally in alignment with said blower element and a driving connection between said member and said blower element permitting disalignment of said blower element from said member to provide for the distortion of said blower element incident to the operation thereof.
14. In a boiler cleaner, a. blower element, a member for rotating said blower element, said member being normally in alignment with said blower element, and a driving connection between said member and said blower element permitting disalignment of said blower element from said member to provide for the distortion of said blower element incident to the operation thereof.

In a boiler cleaner, a blower element adapted to discharge jets of cleaning fluid, a member for moving said blower element to direct said jets adjacent surfaces to be cleaned, a support for said member, said member being arranged between said support and said blower element, and means providing for relative movement in a plurality of directions between said blower element and said support to provide for distortion of said blower element during the operation thereof, said means including a driving connection between said member and said blower element. 16. In a boiler cleaner, a rotatable blower element adapted to discharge jets of cleaning iiuid, a member for rotating said blower element to direct said jets adjacent surfaces to be cleaned, a support for said member, said member being arranged between said support and said blower element, and means providing for relative movement in a plurality of directions between said blower element and said support to provide for distortion of said blower element during the operation thereof, said means including a driving connection between said member and said blower element.
