NATHAN ERNEST RICKEY, or 'MASSILLON, 01110 commune HOSE surron'rnn Ann HOSE Application filed .Tanuary'20, 1932. Serial No. 587,781,
This invention relates to a combined hose supporter and hose,
An object of the invention is the construction of a hose, which is provided with a supporter of a very simple construction and which will automatically adjust itself to the of the wearer, thereby efliciently supporting the hose in position.
Another object of the invention is the con struction of a hose supporter as a part of the hose, said hose supporter being of such novel construction as to form a leg-encircling loop, which is freely adjustable to any size leg for efficiently supporting the hose in position: upon the leg;
ith the foregoing and other objects in view, my invention comprises certain novel constructions, combinations and arrangements of parts as will be hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawing, and more particularly pointed out in the appended claim.
In the drawing:
Figure l is a fragmentaryperspective view of the device, showing the same as when applied to a leg.
Figure 2 is a fragmentary, perspective view of the device, prior to the long strap being threaded through its slot for forming the freely slidable and automatically adjustable leg-encircling loop.
Figure 3 is a diagram showing the method of threading the strap through the slot for forming the loop shown in Fig. 1.
Referring to the drawing by numerals, 1 designates the body of the hose, which may be any kind of a stocking, sock or the like. In the embodiment shown in the drawing, '1 have preferably illustrated the strap 2 as being an integral part of the body 1 by knitting or weaving the strap at the time the body is constructed. However, the strap 2 may be attached to the body 1 in any suitable manner.
I employ only a single strap 2, of sufficient (Fig. 3),
length to entirely encircle the wearers leg. h s strap is provided with a single long slot 3 at its outer end, which slot preferably extends longitudinally of the strap; thisslot 3 is longer than'thelwidth of. the strap,for the 1 purpose as hereinafter describedz' r v To form the automatically adjustable loop (Fig. 1) the strap'Q is threaded through slot 3Iin a doubled orfolded condition as illustraded by A in Fig. 3, until the complete loop is formed as shown in Fig.1. I have found from actual experience that the strap will assume the position shown in Figure 1, by the operator pulling on the loop A has been threaded through the slot 3, where upon the slotted end will turn inside out soto speak, actually assuming the exactposition shown in Fig. r V I am aware that a number of patents have 55 p been issued upon hose supporters, involving. straps attached to the hose of diflerent kinds, but the art does not show my simple and efii- I cient invention involving only asingle long strap with a single slot at its outer end.
Many'advantages may be ascribed for my novel structure, among'which' can be mentioned the fact that the more the hose sags, the tighter the loop grips or binds upon the leg to hold the stocking or sock from wrinkling. Further, the peculiarly formed loop permits freeadjustment to any size leg. The
action of the loop, sliding freely in the slot,
is therefore, automatic. 7 so Vhile I have described the preferred embodiment of my invention and illustrated the same in the accompanying drawing, certain minor changes or alterations may appear to one skilled in the art towhich this invention .7 i
relates, during the extensive manufacture of the same, and I, therefore, reserve the right to make such changes or alterations as shall fairly fall within the scope of the appended claim. r
until all of the loose outerportion' Q 7 so I What I claim is As a. new article of manufacture,-a single piecehose body and strap, said strap provided at its outer end with a' long slot ofuaa length greater than the Width of the stra and portions of said strap between its en s laid full-width together and threaded freely through said long slot forming an automati- 'ca1ly adjustable loop to grip a leg, substantially as shown and described. v g V In testimony whereof I hereunto aflix my signature.
