Description
oct. 18, 1932. v J. MAREK 1,882,667
GARMENT HANGER Filed Nov. 28, 1950 noentoz Patented Oct. 18, 1932 UNITED STA-TES VICTOR J'. MAREK, 0F ELMHURST, NEW YORK AGrAltIVIElll HANGER Application filed November 28, 1930. Serial No. 498,525.
This invention relates to improvements in garment hangers, and it is the principal object of my invention topprovide aI garment hanger equipped with means for securely clamping the garments suspended from the hanger onto the same without damage to the garments.
Another object of my invention is the provision of a garment hanger havinga bar substantially U-shaped in cross-section and somewhat curved.
A further obj ect of my invention is the provision of a garment hanger equipped with means for protecting the garments suspended therefrom against insects.
A still further ob]ect of my invention is a garment hanger of simple and inexpensive construction, yet durable and efficient -in operation.
These and other objects of my invention will become more fully known as the description thereof proceeds, and will then be specically defined in the appended claim. y
In the accompanying drawing forming a material part of this disclosure:
Fig. 1 is a sectional side elevation of a garment hanger constructed according to mys invention.
Fig. 2 is a bottom plan view of the same.
Fig. 3 is a top plan view thereof.
Fig. 1- is a perspective sectional detail view of one of the moth ball containers.
Fig. 5 is a cross-section on line 5 5 of Figure 1.
Fig. 6 is a cross-section on line 6 6 of Figure 1.
As illustrated, my novel and improved garment holder comprises a support bar which may be constructed of metal or any other suitable material and consists of two side plates 10, 11, connected at the top by a plate 12, preferably curved on the arc kof a `circle and provided with openings 13, 14, and a hanger or hook 15.
The hanger has formed a head 16 at its inner end and a pressure plate or leaf spring 17 is held intermediate its ends by said head on said hanger and carries nearits ends the plates 18, 19. The angularly bent elements of clamp members 22, 23, are passed through either member into a position angular to the openings 13, 14C, between plates 10 and 11, and are pivoted at their ends on pins 20, 21, in the sides of plates 10, 11, so that said elements engage plates 1S, 19, when the members 22, 23, are swung about their pivot pins into the position shown in broken lines in Figure 1 and depress the ends of the leaf spring 17. The outer ends of members 22, n 23, carry cushions 24, 25, held to the underside of the members by means of the teeth 26, 27, and the end tongues 28, 29.
At the outer ends of the hanger between flanges 10, 11, containers for the reception of moth balls 31 are provided, and frictionally held therein. 05
The use of my device will be clearly understood from the above descriptionv and by simultaneous inspection of the drawing, and it will be evident that garments placed upon the support bar while the clamp members are in their raised position indicated in broken lines in Figure 1 in which the ends of the leaf springs are depressed, will be securely held on the bar as soon as the clamping members are swung about their pivot ypins engaging the garments with their cushioned ends retaining the same in their position without damaging the garments.
It will be understood that I may make such changes inmy device as comewithin the scope of the appended claim without departure from my invention.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire tosecure by Letters Patent is: S5
In a garment hanger, having a curved body bar substantially U-shaped in crosssection and provided with openings in its upper bar, a hanger entering at its lower end between the shanks of the U-bar, a head formed at the lower end of said hanger, a leaf-spring held to said hanger intermediate its ends by said head, plates on said spring near its ends, a pair of clamp members, angularly bent inner ends for said members passing through the openings in said upper bar, pins between the shanks of the U-member to which said angularly bent ends of the clamp members are pivoted for swinging body during the placing of a garment thereon, cushions at the outer ends of said members, teeth for holding said cushions to the underside of said members and tongues on said members engaging said cushions.
In Witness whereof I have signed my name to this specification.
VICTOR J. MAREK.
