Description

Sept. 20, 1932. c. H. RODEBACK NECKTIE Filed May 9, 1929 Patented Sept. 20, 1932 UNITED STATES PATENT oFFilc Application tied May 9, 192e. seal N6'. 361,645.
My invention relates to improvements in neckties, particularly of the four-in-hand and bow types, and the principal objects of my invention are, to provide a tie that has its vend portions dilferently colored or of different patterns, or composed of different and distinctive materials, and further to construct a tie of the four-in-hand type so that both ends shall be exposed to view when the tie is 'properly adjusted relative to the collar.
In the ordinary four-in-hand tie, the narrower end portion of the tie is positioned beneath the wider end and therefore it is hidden from view when the tie is worn.
To overcome this condition and permitboth end portions of the tie to be exposed to view I propose to form in the wider end portion of the tie, near the portion that is formed in the knot, a narrow slit or opening, through which the narrow end portion of the tie may be drawn so that when the tie is properly adjusted upon the collar the narrow end portion overlies the wider end portion, thereby adding materially to the appearance of the tie.
A further object of my invention is to provide a tie of the four-in-hand type which does not necessarily require tying each time that it is put on, or untied each time that it is 'taken off, and to accomplish this result I arrange on the under side of the narrower end portion of the tie, adjacent to the end thereof, a transversely disposed stop that will y .be effective in preventing the narrow end portion of the tie being readily drawn entirely through the knot when the tie is being loosened in order to permit its removal from the collar.
With the foregoing and other objects in view, my invention consists in certain novel features of construction and arrangement of parts that will hereinafter be more fully described and claimed and illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which:
Fig'. `3' isy an enlarged detail seetion taken on the'liieBI--SV of Fig, 1.
efi's" a front elevati'Iittlv View of ay vb'ovv'l embodying the principles of my inven= ion'.- Referring by numerals tothe accompanying drawing which illustrates'a practical emi bodiment of my invention, 1() designates the wider end portion of theftie which maybe constructed in' the* usual manner from any desired fabric', and connected in any suit'- able ii`1a'n1`ie'r-'tol thenar'ow end of the widerrv portion 10,V` isit'he` innere'nd ofthe relatively nqa'rro vlvfend portion 11 of the tie. The por`v tions" 10: and 11 may bediflerently colored', or formed of material of dierent or distinctive patterns, or said. portions maybe formed of different or distinctive materials. j i
Formed-'lin the wider portion-10'; of the tie at' a. pointv just below that portion that is formed into the knot when the 'tie sftedg foruse, isa slit or opening" 12 and which slitv4 is for the purpose of' permitting thenarrowY end portion 11 to be inserted andy drawn throughy the wide portion after the tie has beenI tied and thus the narrower portion of the tiel will koverlie' the centralV portion Iof the wide end 'of the'tiewhen the same is' tied for usepas illustrated in' Fig.` 2.
Secured' in Aany suitable manner", Ipreferably .by stitching on' the rearA face of thefar'- row portionv 11of the tie andadjacent to its ote'rf end a narrow transversely disposed member 13, preferably formed of fabric or sui-table iiexible material, which memberfuncr tions as a stop, to'prevent the narrow end of' the tie" from being wholly withdrawnf through the knotfwhen the tie is being removed fromv the collar. Thisfmember 13, in addition .to performing the functions-of astop, may serve' asa-tag'that bears the name of the manufacturer or retailer of the tie', or the' trade? mark under which thefte is marketed. l
By pulling thenarrotve'r' portionA of the tiel upw'vardly through the knotv until the stop 13 eng-ges said knot, a relativeljlarg'e loop iskv formed between the eid portions of lthe tie and this loop' permitsthe tiej to be readily disengaged from the'ooll'ar and removed' by" the wider end portion of the tie and overlie the front surface thereof when the tie is knotted for use.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature. CHARLES HOWARD RODEBACK.
portions of the bow of the tieare differentlycolored or of distinctive appearance and when the ends are tied to form a bow the nar-V rower end portion lies in front of the wider.
end portion, as illustrated in Fig. 4.
Thus it4 will be seen that I have provided a tie having portionsv of different colors or composed of differentl materials vand which differently colored or ldistinctive portions are both exposed t0 view when the necktie is properly tied and worn. The narrow slit or opening in the relatively wide end portion of the tie, permits the opposite narrower end portion to be brought through the body at a point within or just below` the knot, so that the differently colored or distinctive portions of the tie are displayed while the tie is worn, and such arrangement permits different :and attractive color combinations to be produced,
thereby adding materiallyto the appearancey ofthe wearer. j p .f
. The provision of the stop member on the rear side of the narrow end portion of the tieprevents said narrow end portion` from being entirely drawn through the knot in the tie and consequently permitting the formation of a relatively large loop which may be readily removed from the wearer or adjusted without untying the knot. It will be understood that minor changes in the size, form and construction of the various parts of my improved necktie vmaybe made and substituted for those herein shown'l and described without departing from the spirit of my invention, the scope of whichis set forth inv the appended claims.
I claim as my invention: i f '1. As a new article of manufacture, a necktie having distinctively colored end portions of different widths, there being an opening formed through the end portion ofthe tie having the greater widthfor the accommo dation of the narrow end portionrofthe'V tie and a flexible stop member secured to the rear face ofthe narrow end portion of the tie adjacent 4to the outer end thereof.
2. As an article of manufacture, a four-inf.' hand necktie having one relatively wide end.
portion fand a relatively narrow end portion, which end portions are distinctive in appearance and there being an opening formed through that portion of the tie having theV greater width adjacent to the point where the tie is knotted, which opening permits the narrower portion ofthe tie to pass through
