This invention relates to a combined calendar and advertising sign and in accordance with the present invention an illumiv nated device is provided which serves the purpose of a calendar, and advertising sign, and in general a business directory.

Also7 in aecordancewith the present invention, means is provided for rendering conspicuous on the calendar a particular date, and especially the present date.

The invention together with its many objects and advantages will be best understood from a study of the following description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings wherein:

lith reference more in detail to the drawings it willv be seen that the device comprises a substantially rectangular casing 5 having a rear wall (i, vertical. end u:ills .7, and a front wall 8 dis'iosed slightly inwardly from the open `front side of the casing.

rFhe wall 8 is in the nature of a skeleton frame structure and is suitably apcrtured to provide adjacent each end thereof an advertising card accominmlating opening 9 elongated vertically; and a third advertising card accommodating opening 10 extending between the lower end of opening 9 and elongated horizontally.

Adjacent the upper edge thereof between the opening 9, the front wall 8 is provided 155 with a horizontal row of openings including end openings 11 within which are arranged plates 12 preferably of isinglass and having on the outer or exposed face thereof numerals indicative of the particular year. Between 00 the openings 11 is an intermediate opening 13 having arranged therein a month card 14, the same being preferably formed of isinglass and having the naine of the month printed, inscribed or otherwise formed on one face thereof.

Below the openings l1, 13, there is arranged atransverse series of openings 15 within which are arranged cards 1G bearing on the faces thereof the name of the day of the week.

The remaining portion'of the front wall 8 are horizontal and vertical rows of openings 17 the proper one of which, to the requisite number, accommodates cards or plates 18, these cards 18 being also formed by the glass, whereby to complete the calendar. It will be noted that there is at least one additional horizontal row of such openings 17 and these may be used for accommodating cards having substantially the same shape and formed from the same material as the cards 18 but upon which are suitable data, legend or the like preferably of an informative nature. Cards 19 having on their faces suitable advertising data preferably may be arranged in vertical rows in the vertical openings 9 and arranged in a horizontal row in the opening 10V as clearly suggested in Figure 1. To the outer side of the wall 8 is disposed a frame 20 secured adjacent its corners, in position at the open side of the casing 5 through the medium of screws or other fastening elements 21. T he frame 2() has mounted therein vertical bars 22 spaced inwardly from the ends of the frame a distance corresponding substantially to the width of the vertical opening 9 in wall 8 and serving with the end members of the frame 20 to retain transparent panels 52 to the outer side of the wall 8 and for substantially closing the openings 9.

The bars Z2 are connected by a horizontal bar 23 which serves with the lower or bottom frame member, to retain a` transparent panel 21 in a position substantially closing the opening 10 in wall 8.

A transparent panel Q5 serves to close the openings 11, 13, 15 and 17 and the lower edge of the transparent panel 25 rests upon the frame member 23. The panel 25 is retained in place adjacent the lower corners thereof through the medium of glaziers points Q6 as best shown in Figure 6, and at its upper edge through the medium of a spring clip 27 engaging therewith and mounted on the upper member of the frame 2O as shown in Figure 1.

The casing 5 also includes abottom wall, together with a top wall, the latter being indicated by the reference numeral 57. Mounted on the top wall 57 is a reflector sign 28 including a casing, the open side of which is alined with an opening Q9 in the top wall 57. The sign 2S also includes the inclined mirror, apertured front wall, transparent panel closing said front wall, and the indicia bearing card 30 which in the present instance is preferably provided with such data pertaining to the intended purpose of this invention, as for example in the present instance the card 30 has the legend Business directory.7

Suitably supported by relatively short rods 31 extending inwardly from the rear wall 6 of the casing is a vertical series of relatively spaced guide bars 32, there being one guide bar 32 for each horizontal row of apertures 17. Each guide bar 32 is provided with a slot 33 elongated longitudinally thereof and opening at one end of the guide bar.

Shiftable longitudinally of a selected guide bar 32 is an arm 34 provided at one end with a retaining head, and provided at its other end with a lamp soclet with which is connected an electric bulb 35 serving as a spot light. Extending from the socket is a bracket arm 36 provided at its free end with a reflector 37. The lamp cord 38 extends through a suitable opening in the rear wall 6 from any suitable source of supply. Pull cords 39 extends in opposite direction from the socket of the lamp S5 and extend outwardly of the casing through suitable openings provided in the end walls 7 as suggested in Figures 3 and 4.

The arm 34: has the headed end thereof engaged with a slot of a selected guide rod 32, and each successive day is advanced longitudinally of the guide bar inwardly from the open end of the slot to a position substantially opposite the card 1S having thereon the numeral indicative of the particular day of the month that is, ninth, tenth day, etc.

It will be apparent, that the arm 34 travels the length of one bar once within the period of a week, or portions of the length of the bar in accordance with the number of cards 18 in that row of apertures 17 opposite to the guide rod 32 with which the arm 34 is engaged. At the beginning of each successive week the arm 34 is initially engaged with the proper guide rod 32, and it will be apparent that as the lamp 35 moves opposite to the particular card 18 that card will be especially illuminated thus rendering that card 18 especially conspicuous so that one when using the device for determining the particular day of the week and month will be attracted to the card so conspicuously illuminated.

There is also mounted in the casing 5 ad jacent each end thereof vertically disposed tubular electric lamps 39 the cords of which are designated by the reference character 40. The electric lamp 39 will not only serve to illuminate the casing generally, or as a whole, but also serves sufficient light to permit of proper operation of the delector unit 28.

Referring again to certain details of construction, it is to be understood that the top and bottom, rear and end walls of the casing are to be made of a suitable composition, wood, or any other material as found desirable.

From the foregoing it will be seen that we have devised a practical combination calendar and illuminated advertising sign, which may especially be used to advantage in bank lobbies, hotel lobbies, writing rooms and the like, and which may be readily mounted on a wall, the device not only serving in a very practical manner, but being also highly attractive and decorative.

Even though we have herein shown and described the preferred embodiments of our inventions, it is to be understood that we do not wish to limit ourselves to the particular details of construction, combination and arrangement of elements as herein shown and described, and in no wise do we intend to limit the invention beyond the requirements of the prior art and scope of the appended claim.

Having thus described our invention, what we claim as new is:

In a device of the character described, a member provided with a plurality of horizontal and vertical rows of apertures, transparent cards in the apertures bearinv indicia germane to a calendar, a plurality ofD vertically spaced horizontal guide bars mounted rearwardly of said member parallel to the horizontal rows of apertures, an arm engageable with a selected one of said guide bars, and an electric lamp mounted on said arm.
