Application led June 15,
This invention relates to corsets and more particularly to a garment for reducing the diaphragm and abdomen and lalso for keeping the hips and waist of the wearer in proper 5 form.
The main objectV of the invention is to provide a garment of this kind for reducing the diaphragm and abdomen and also for keeping the hips and waist in proper form with 10 out any discomfort to the wearer.
Another object of the invention is to provide a garment of this kind consisting of a body portion which rits around the hips of the wearer and a belt attached to the body portion adapted to flt around the waist of the wearer.
Still another object of the invention is to resiliently attach the belt to the body portion so the garment and belt will yield according to the movements of the wearer.
Other objects of the invention will appear as the disclosure progresses. The drawings are intended to merely indicate a possible embodiment of the invention. It is possible that the needs of manufacture may necessitate certain mechanical changes. It is therefore not intended to limit the invention to the embodiment illustrated but rather to deine such limits in the appended claim.
For a more general understanding of the invention attention is called to the drawings.
Figure 1 is a view of the garment shown at tached to the body of the wearer.
Figure 2 is a similar view as Figure 1 but showing the body portion partly opened up.
Figure 3 is a. rear view of the garment shown buttoned up.
Figure 4 is an inside view of the garment with the belt buttoned up.
Figure 5 is an outside view of the garment shown opened up.
Figure 6 is asimilar view as Figure 4 in part but showing the belt opened.
Referring now to the drawings in detail, numeral 1 designates the body portion of the garment formed in two sections 2 and 3 and united by lacing 4. The section 2 consists of several non-elastic portions 5, 6, 7, 8 and 9 separated by pockets 10, 11, 12 and 13 in which fit the usual resilient reinforcing 41931. serial Nas/14,574.
strips. Likewise the section 3 is also divided into portions 14, 15, 16, 17 and 18 separat-ed by pockets 19, 20, 21 and 22 in which also fit the usual resilient reinforcing strips. At the tops of portions 6, 7 16 and 17 which are non-elastic are sewed in elastic gores 23, 24, 25 and 26. The upper part of the non-elastic material of the said portions where sewed to the elastic gores as at 27 are pleated so as to take care of any stretch of the gores.
Fastened to the pockets l2 and 20 and to the inner ends of the gores 24 and 25 is a belt 26. The belt is made in two sections 27 and 28 the ends of which are attachable to eac-h other by suitable hooks and eyes 29. The section 27 consists of a non-elastic member provided with a series of resilient reinforcing strips 30 and two strips of elastic material 31 and 32 where sewed to the body portion of the garment. The section 28 is wholly made of two strips of elastic material 34 and 35.
At the ends of the body portion are a series of hooks and eyes 36 for fastening the garment around the body of the wearer and at the bpttom thereof are a series of hose supporters 3 It will thus be seen that I have provided an eiicient and comfortable garment for the purpose specified. The belt will lit tightly around the waist while the body portion will fit snugly around the hips. The belt is Widened in the center and a part thereof eX- tends above the body portion as noted in Figures 1 and 5 so that the top edge of the body portion will not pinch any part of the abdomen. The size of both the belt and body portion can at one time be regulated by the lacing 4. The belt is yieldingly attached so that it can move or stretch to conform to the movement of the body independent of the body portion of the garment.
Having described my invention, I claim.
In a garment of the class described, the combination of a. body portion-made in two sections and joined together by lacings, each of said sections divided into five portions, an elastic insert sewed to the top of four of said portions, the said portions below and adjacent the elastic inserts made of a non-elastic material, the upper edge of said non-elastic material ruffled where joined to said elastic material, a belt comprising a stili:l non-elastic front portion and elastic end portions7 one of said elastic end portions removably attached to said front portion, each of said elastic end portions made of two strips of elastic material placed one above the other, the outward edges of the upper of said elastic strips attached to the inward edges of the innermost of said elastic insertsat the meeting places of the non-elastic material with the said elastic inserts, the lower of said elastic strips attached to the innermost of said non# elastic ruHed material. i
In testimony whereof, I' aiiiX my signature. `PATRICK J. MORAN.
