3 Claims.
This invention relates to corsets, and th primary object of the invention is to provide an improved garment of this kind adapted for effectively reducing the abdomen and keeping the hips and waist in proper form without discomfort to the wearer.
A more specific object of the invention is to provide a garment of the above kind composed of two similar sections united by lacing at the back and adapted to be connected by separable fasteners at the front, each section including a back portion and a front portion, and a belt located n the inner face of the front portion of each section, each belt including acentral elastic portion and side inelastic portions attached to the front portion of the associated section.
The present invention also consists in certain specific features and details of construction hereinafter more fully described, shown in the accompanying drawings and claimed.
In th drawings, wherein like reference characters indicate corresponding parts throughout the several views:
Figure l is an outside elevational view of the garment in open condition.
Figure 2 is an inside elevational view thereof in open condition.
Figure 3 is an enlarged fragmentary section taken on line 3-3 of Figure 2.
Referring in detail to the drawings, the present corset consists of two similar sections A and B adjustably united at the back by lacing 5 and adapted to be separably connected at the front upper portion by means of head and eye fastener member 6 and l and at the front lower portion by hooks and eye fastener members 8 and 9. Suitable garment supporters H} are attached to the lower edges of the back portion a and front portion b of each section.
The back portion a of each section is composed of a plurality of inelastic sections ll, I2 and it that are stitched together along adjacent edges. Vertical pockets I4 are provided where the sections Ii, 12 and iii are joined, which pockets receiv conventional" stiffening strips or stays as indicated. Similar stays are provided in pockets i 5 provided along the edges of the sections where the latter are laced together at 5.
The front portion 12 of each corset section is composed of inelastic sections l6, ll, l8 and Hi and an elastic section disposed between the upper portions of the sections l1 and I8 and between the lower portions of the section H and the gusset-like section l9 that is attached to the lower end of the section I8 and joins the section 2 H with the section H of the back portion a of thesame corset section. At the tops ofthe sections ll, l8 and 20, is a sewed-in elastic gore 2|, and in the lower end of the section I! is a sewedin elastic insert or gusset 22. The gusset 22 is thus located nearer the front center of the garment than the elastic section 26 and the associated gore 2i, and this arrangement of elastic section, gore and gusset provides for desirable elasticity at the most satisfactory points conducive to comfort of the wearer. On the inner face of each front portion 17 where the sections it and 2t join are pocket 23 that extend across the inner face of the associated gore 2i and receive stiffening strips or stays. Th head and eye members 6 and 1 are preferably carried by stiffening strips located in pockets along the front edges of the front portions b, as indicated by dotted 1ine at 24. Additional supporters for a sanitary napkin are provided at 25 at the lower ends of the sections l6, which supporters 25 include attaching straps that are secured in a manner to be later described.
On the inner face of the front portion 17 of each corset section is a belt composed of side inelastic sections 26 and 2'! connected by an intermediate elastic section 28, the outer side edges of the inelastic sections 26 and 21 being stitched to the associated front portion 1) where the sections l6 and I! join and Where the sections l8 and I9 join with the section II. Where the sections i1 and 20 join, they are provided with pockets 29 in which are placed ordinary stiffening strips or stays. A binding strip 30 is provided along the upper edge of each corset section, and where this binding strip and the sections l1 and I 8 are sewed to the gore 2|, they are gathered or pleated to permit stretching of said gore and the section 29. This gathering or pleating is designated with respect to the strip 30 by transverse vertical lines in Figures 1 and 2 It is noted that the supporters 25 include attaching straps, and one end of the strap of each supporter 25 is attached to the lower edge of the associated section l6 while the other end of said strap is attached to the lower edge of the adjacent section 26 of the adjacent belt. This produces a desirable distribution of pull on the body portion and belt of the garment, and it will be noted that the elastic sections, pores and gussets are so arranged and located as to permit individual stretching at the upper portion of the garment and at the lower portion thereof. At the same time, the garment is yieldingly held in snug contact with the wearer so as to have the desired reducing and form-keeping qualities without causing discomfort to the wearer. It will further be noted that the belts are yieldable so that they can move or stretch to conform with the movement of the body independently of the main body sections of the corset.
It is believed that from the foregoing description, the advantages and novel features of the invention will be readily apparent. Also, the invention is susceptible of modification nd changes in details of construction such as fairly fall within the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed.
What I claim is:
l. A corset comprising two similar sections having suitable means at the back for lacing and at the front for fastening the sections together around the body of the wearer, each section comprising a completely inelastic back portion provided with stays and a partly elastic front portion provided with stays, each front portion comprising a relatively short inelastic section, a gusset-like inelastic section joined to the lower end of said short section, said short section and said gusset-like section being joined to the associated back portion, a-relatively long inelastic section joined at its lower part to the lower part of the gusset-like section, an elastic section connecting the major upper part of the long section with the short section and the upper part of the gusset-like section, a further inelastic section joined to said long section and carrying members of the fastening means, an elastic insert in the front portion of the lower end of said long section, and an elastic sewed-in gore at the tops of the long and short inelastic sections and the 4 elastic section and connecting the back portion and said further inelastic section at the top.
2. The construction defined in claim 1, in combination with a belt on the inner face of each front portion, said belt comprising side inelastic sections connected by an intermediate elastic section, the outer edges of the side inelastic belt sections being respectively attached to the front portion where said long and further inelastic sections thereof join together and where the short and gusset-like sections thereof join with the back portion, said belt being of a width to extend from a point below but adjacent the top of the front portion to a point above but near the bottom of the latter.
3. The construction defined in claim 1, in combination with a belt on the inner face of each front portion, said belt comprising side inelastic sections connected by an intermediate elastic section, the outer edges or the side inelastic belt sections being respectively attached to the front portion where said long and further inelastic sections thereof join together and where the short and gusset-like sections thereof join with the back portion, said belt being of a width to extend from a point below but adjacent the top of the front portion to a point above but near the bottom of the latter, and a napkin supporter carried by each front portion, each supporter including an attaching strap secured at one end to the lower end of said further inelastic section of the associated front portion and at its other end to the lower end of the front side inelastic section of the adjacent belt.
