Description
July 12, 1932. P, D 1,866,780
SUSPENDERS Filed Jan. '19, 1931 Inventor 2J1 Jwfrj/ze/ pwm I Alfomey Patented July 12, 1932 PATENT QFFICE PAUL DANIEL SWAYZE, OF KANSAS CITY, MISSOURI SUSPENDERS Application filed January 19, 1931.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in suspenders and has for an important object to provide in a manner as hereinafter set forth, a pair of suspenders embodying a novel construction and arrangement of parts rendering same adapted to be worn under a shirt, thus concealing said suspenders from View.
Another important object of the invention 1 is to provide a pair of suspenders embodying a pair of sectional elastic supporting straps, the sections having novel means for connecting same together, said means for each strap crossing each other and adapted to permit independent movement of each of t 1e straps.
Other objects of the invention are to pro- Vide, in a manner as hereinafter set forth, a pair of suspenders which will be simple in construction, strong, durable, light in weight,
comfortable when Worn, eiiicient in use and which may be manufactured at low cost.
All of the foregoing and still further objects and advantages of the invention will become apparent from study of the following specification, taken in connection with the accompanying drawing wherein like reference characters designate corresponding parts throughout the several views, and wherein:
Figure 1 is a view in front elevation of a pair of suspenders constructed in accordance with the present invention,
Figure 2 is a detail view in perspective of the interlocked connecting slides which intersect each other and constitute means for connecting the sections of each of the pair of shoulder or supporting straps together.
Figure 3 is a detail view in elevation showing the device for slidably connecting the front ends of the side straps to the front end portions of the shoulder straps,
Figure 4: is a View in top plan of the element illustrated in Figure 8,
Figure 5 is a detail view in section showing the means connecting the rear ends of the side straps to the rear sections of the shoulder straps.
Referring to the drawing in detail, it will be seen that the reference numeral 1 desig- 0 nates generally a pair of shoulder straps each Serial No. 509,822.
of which comprises the elastic sections 2 and 3 having on their free ends the loops 4: for connection with suitable fastening elements such as buttons which are preferably anchored on the interior of the waist line of the trousers. The sections 2 of the straps 1 are looped through the elements l and are adjustable as to their length through the medium of the buckles 5. y
The sections 2 and 3 of each of the straps 1 are connected together by the interlocked, crossed connectors 6 each of which is formed from an integral piece of metal and includes an elongated eye 7 in which the rear end of a section 2 of the strap 1 is secured by a clamp 8.
Each of the connectors 6 includes a pair of outer sections 8 and an inner section 9 which have formed integrally on their free ends the alined hooks 10 and 11 respectively. The portion 9 of each of the connectors 6 is offset with respect to the portions 8 of said connectors. The intermediate section 9 of one of the connectors 6 is inserted between the portions 8 and 9 of the other connector in the manner illustrated to advantage in Figure 2 of the drawing to permit said connectors to slide relative to each other in any desired direction. The sections are preferably of the shape shown.
The section 3 of each of the straps 1 has connected thereto by the clamp 8' the eye 12 for engagement in the hooks 10 and 11 of each of the connectors 6 and in this manner the eyes 12 constitute means for connecting the sections 3 to the connectors 6.
In elastic side straps 13 each has one end detachably secured to a section 3 by the hook 14 which is engaged with the eye 15 secured to the section 3. The other end of the side strap 13 is adjustably secured to a connector 16 which is slidably mounted 011 the looped forward end of the section 2.
Each of the elements 16 includes an eye portion 17 through which the strap 13 is looped and the spaced bars 18 which are offset with respect to each other in a manner to permit passage of the looped portion of the section 2 therebetween. In this manner theelements 16 are mounted for adjustment on the sections 2 of the straps 1.
It is believed that the many advantages of a pair of suspenders constructed in accordance with this invention will be readily understood, and although the preferred embodiment of the invention is as illustrated and described, it is to be understood that changes in the details of construction may be had which will fall within the scope of the invention as claimed.
What I claim as new is:
1. A pair of suspenders comprising a pair of garment supporting straps each including a front elastic section and a rear elastic section, means for detachably connecting one end of each of the sections with a garment, connected inelastic means for coupling the front and rear sections of each strap together for independent movement of said straps relative to each other, and a pair of inelastic side straps, each side strap having one end detachably connected to the rear section of one of the supporting straps and its other end adjustably connected to the front section of the other supporting strap.
2. A pair of suspenders comprising a pair of garment supporting straps, each including a front section and a rear section, means for detachably connecting one end of each of the sections with a garment, an eye on the other end of each rear section, and slidably connected intersecting connectors mounted on the rear ends of the front sections, each of the connectors comprising an eye for connection with a front section, a pair of spaced, parallel outer sections depending from the eye and terminating in hooked free end portions for engagement with the eye on the rear section, and an intermediate section offset with respect to the outer sections, and having a hook on its free end for engagement With the eye on the rear section.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature.
PAUL DANIEL SVVAYZE.
