This invention relates to improvements in candles and, more especially, a candle made of paraiin, wax, tallow, or the like.
The principal feature of my invention is 5 vhe making of the lower end of the candle so that it can be readily reduced in diameter to adapt it to tit the desired candle holder. The end may be originally made of a diameter as great as the largestv candle holder 10 ind then it can he reduced as desired to fit any candle holder.
Other features and advantages of my invention will appear more fully as I proceed with my specification.

I have found that if paper is used for the strip, such as news print paper, it becomes impregnated with the paraflin or other material of .which the candle ismade and the 0 layers of the roll stick together to al certain extent so that thelower end of the candle is not materially weakened by having this roll e of paper imbedded in it. The impregnation of the paraffin or .tallow also keeps the 5 paper from unwinding. It is easy, however,
to unwind portions, as desired. InFig. 3, the end 11a of the strip has been unwound Y from the roll l1 and the diameter of the lower end of the candle accordingly reduced.

Thile I have shown and described certain embodiments of my invention, itis to be understood that it is capableof many modifications. Changes, therefore, in lthe construction and arrangement may be made wit-hout departing from the spirit and scope of my invention as disclosed in the appended claims.
IVhat I regard as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:
1. A candle having a roll of a strip of flexible sheet material imbedded in its lower end, portions of said strip adapted to be unwound and torn ofi' to reduce the diameter of the lower end of said candle.
Q. A candle as claimed in claim 1, in which the strip of flexible sheet material is impregnated with the material of which the candle is made.
