This invention relates to a water tube of cross steam and vwater drums and will e understood from tbe description in connection with the ac-v companying drawings in which Fig. 1 is a vertical section through an illustrative embodiment of` the invention taken along the line 1-1 of Fig. 2, and Fig. 2 is a view at partly in section along In the drawings, reference character 5 indicatesa furnace above which is located a watertube boiler, the water tube boiler comprising a front steam and Water drum 6 that extends crosswiseof the' boiler and a corresponding rear-drum 7 connected by one or morerows of steam circulators 8 located inside of the boiler casing. One or more water circulators 9 may connect the Water s aces of the drums, said water 4circulators eing located outside ofthe boiler vcasing'. Down- `take headers 10 are connected tothe rear drum.7 by means of the nipples 11. A bank of inclined tubes 12 connects the downtake headers 10 tothe uptake headers 13 and nipples 14 connect the upper ends of the uptake headers .13 to the front drum 6; These nipples extend inside the drum preferablyr above the water level therein and terminate in bends 15 turned away' from the side into which the steam circulators 8 enter. A feed water inlet pipe 16 is provided for therear drum 7. The drums 6 and 7 are preferably lined with tile on the furnace side and the hot productsv of 'combustion from the furnace pass in a single pass across the tubes 12 and thence out through the outlet 17 a portion of the samecontacting with the tubes 8. Tubes 18 connect the steamspace of the steam andwater drum 7 to the superheater 19 across which the gases also pass in a single pass.
Downcomer tubes 20 connect the ends of the Water space of the drums 6 to a distributor 21 oneach side of the furnace. Tubes 22 connect the distributors 21 to lower headers .23 along opposite sides of the furnace.
Tubes 24 connect the distributors 21 to opposite ends of lower cross headers 25 and 26 that may be spring supported. Rows of z'les 48 are tubes; 27 and 28 lined with 1.11@ and bent to form an ash hopper, connect headers 25 and 26'to cross headers-29 and 30, respectively. A row 31 of front waterwall tubes and a row 32 of rear water wall tubes connects the vheaders'29 and 30 to upper headers 33 and 34, respectively. Fuel burners 35 extend through the front wall of the furnace.

A downcomer tube 42 may be provided on each side of the boiler from the water space of the steam and water drum 7 and is connected to the downcomer tube 20, if necessary, to provide sufficient Water for the water wall tubes. The operation is as follows: Steam is generated in the inclined tubes 12 in the usual manner and the mixture of steam and water passes upwardly through the nipples 14 into the front drum `6 whereV separation takes place. The steam from the drum 6 passes with some entrained moisture through the tubes 8 into the drum 7 and the steam has its quality improved while passing through these tubes by means of the hot products of combustion, some of which contact with the tubes, so that the steam in the steam space 4of the drum 7 is relatively dry evenbefore it 'header 34 to the drum 6. Risers 47 extend from the upperl headers 38 to the drum 6 and passes to the superheater 19. The main portion of the water for the tubes along the furnace walls passes downwardly through the tube 20 and in this way the water wall tubes receive water of about the same temperature as that in the steam generating portion of the boiler. The water entering the lower headers around the furnace Walls passes up.- wardly and is partially vaporized, the miX- ture of steam and water passing vinto the front drum 6 after a partial separation in the upper headers 33, 34 and 38 that causes water to flow downwardly through the tubes 39, 40 and 41. In a water tube boiler and its furnace, a front cross steam and water drum, a rear cross steam and water drum, a bank of inclined water tubes and connections between the ends of said tubes and the respective steam and water drums, tubes communicating with the water spaces and the steamspaces, respectively, of said steam and water drums, said furnace having a wall provided'with water tubes, downcomers and risers both connected to said front drum and communicating with the respective ends of the furnace wall tubesand a steam outlet connected to the other drum.

In a water tube boiler and itsfurnace, a frontcrosssteam and water drum, a rear cross steam and water drum, a bank of inclined water tubes and connections between the 'ends of said tubes and the respective steam and water drums,`tubes communicating with the water spaces and the steam spaces, respectively, of said steam and water drums, said furnace having a wall 4provided with water tubes, downcomers and risers both-con nected to said front drum and communicating .water tubes of greater length than said inwith the water spaces and the steam spaces,
respectively, of said steam and water drums, said furnace having a wall provided with water tubes, and upper and lower headers to which the respective ends of the wall tubes are connected, said -headers being both con-` nected to said front steam and water drum.
