HILL, OF EMBARASS, MINNESOTA DISK-HARROW SHARPENER This invention relates to new and useful improvements in sharpening devices Jfor disk hai-rows and aims to provide a relatively simple and inexpensive sharpening mechai nism that may be applied to generally conventional disk harrows and this without in any manner whatever altering the construction or said harrows.
Furthermore by reason of the present invention there is provided means for simultaneously sharpening the edges of all et the disks of the harrow7 and this without requiring the harrow ope ator to personally retain in his grasp or to maintain depressed any levers or the like during the sharpening operation.

Now having particular reference to the drawings, A designates the usual horizontal irame bar of a disk harrow beneath which is suspended a parallel barrow shaft or axle B which is equipped with a plurality of spaced harrow disks C.
In carrying out the present invention the inner ends ot a pair of relatively elongated attaching brackets 5 5 are secured to the barrow Jframe bar B adjacent the opposite ends thereof, said brackets extending rearwardly at right angles to the frame bar as clearly disclosed in Figures 2 and 3. The rear ends ot these brackets 5 are downturned as at 6 and secured to said down turned vends oi the bracket isa cross bar 7 to the outer face of which are pivotally secured depending arms 8 similar in number tothe number of disks C, and being pivoted to the bar 7 directly at the edges `of the disks as disclosed in 'Figure 1. The lower ends of these arms 8 terminate substantially centrally of the disk .and are twisted a onequarter turn as shown. To these lower twisted ends of the arms are bolted or otherwise rigidly secured abrasive blocks 9, the inner face of each of which is serrated as at 10,V said serrated faces adapted for engagingthe cutting edges of the disks C in tangential relation as disclosed in- Figure 6 this being due to the olie-quarter twist of the lower ends of said arms8. y
All of said arms 8 are interconnected by a connecting bar 1l `so that they will swing simultaneously upon the main bar 7 of the sharpening structure.` l
The abrasive blocks of the arms 8 are normally maintained in engagement with the cutting edges ofthe' disks7 through `the medium of retracti'le `coil springs 13 anchored at their opposite ends to the bar 7 and to said bars 8 above the conneetingjbar l1 as disv closed in Figure 1. `Pivoted to the center of the bar 7 is `ahand lever let, the lower end thereof having pivotal connection with the connecting bar 11 for the obvious purpose oi' permit-ting the bar 1l to be swung in a dire@ tion toward the lett 'tor so moving the arms 8 as to disengage the abrasive blocks from the disks as disclosed by the dotted lines in Figure l.
Arranged upon the upper edge of the bar 7 at the side of the lever 14 in the direction of the pull of the springs 13 is a beveled latch plate 15 over which said lever will ride when swung in the direction of the dotted line position to retain the abrasive blocks out ot engagement with the disk C when the sharpening operation is not desired.
In view of the foregoing description when considered in conjunction with the aecompanying drawing it will be apparent that I have provided a highly novel, simple and inexpensive sharpening means for disk harrows that is well adapted for all the purposes heretofore designated, even though I have herein shown and described the invention as consisting of certain detail structural elements it is to be understood that minor changes may be made without departing from the spirit and seopeof the appended claims.
Having thus described the invention, what I claim as new is Y 1. In a sharpening device for diskharrows including a frame bar, a supporting bar mounted upon and in spaced parallel relation with the frame bar of the harrow, a plurality of arms pivoted tothe Jframe bar and depending therefrom, said arms being similar in l number to the number of the harrow disks `and beingmounted upon the bar adjacent said disks, an abrasive block arranged upon the lower end of each arm, means for normal- 1y so swinging the arms as to cause the blocks to have engagement Vwith the edges of the disks, and manual control means whereby the arms may be swung away from the disks and locked in such la position. y
2. In a sharpening device for disk harrows including av frame bar, a supporting bar mounted upon and in spaced parallel relation Awith the framev bar of the harrow, a plurality lof arms pivoted to the frame bar and depending therefrom, said arms being similar in number to the number of the harrow disks and being mounted upon the bar adjacent said disks, an` abrasive block arranged upon the lowerV end of each arm, means for normally so swinging the arms as to cause the blocks to have engagement with the edges of the disks, manual control means whereby the arms may be swung away from the disks and locked in such a position, said means consisting of a lever pivoted to the frame bar and 1 having connection with the arm interconnecting bar and a latch plate upon the frame bar in back of which the hand lever may be engaged after swinging the arms away from 1 said disks.
