' The present invention pertainsto new and useful improvements in supports for electric heating elements, and the same has a more particular reference to terminal posts such as are employed for supporting the heating elements or frequently referred to glow bar in electric furnace structures.
The aim of the present invention is to provide a novel terminal post possessing all the advantages of the types now employed, but
which introduces several new features with the end in view of increasing the now limited use of'electric furnaces, and to impart safety where hazardous conditions now exist.

Another object of importance, resides in the provision of heat dissipating means for association with the terminal post, whereby the heat produced by the heating element, will be obstructed and thus maintain the exterior portion of the terminal post cool.
Still another object is to provide a novel water-cooled terminal post provided with a renewable contact cap and means interposed in the contact cap and the terminal post for limiting the conductivity of heat from said contact cap.
A further object resides in certain novel structure, whereby a positive current connection is maintained between the detachable contact cap and the term nal post, during the use of the same.
After reading the following specification and claims, other important objects and advantages of theinvention will become apparent.
In the drawings: Fig. 1 represents a fragmentary sectional view of an electric furnace with the water 5 cooled pipe of terminal posts arranged through the wall thereof.

Referring to the drawings, wherein like numerals designate like parts an electric furnace A, may be of any suitable construction, permitting the disposition of the terminal post substantially in the manner shown in F ig. 1.
Opposed walls of the furnace structure are formed with openings in which frictional bushings 11 are arranged. i
In Figs. 1, 2, and 3, a novel water-cooled type of terminal post is shown equipped with the renewable caps. This form consists of an elongated cylindrical shell 14., threaded at each end. A bonnet structure 15 is threaded to the shell 14, at its outer end, and is formed with a protuberance 16, servin as a binding post to which the conductor 1 may be connected.
A water inlet pipe 18 has one end portion bent upwardly at 19 for penetration through the wall of the bonnet structure 15. The inner end of the tubing 18 terminates slightly inwardly from the opposite end of the shell 14. A drain tube 20 depends from the bottom side portion of the bonnet structure 15. -Numeral 12 in Figure 1 denotes a carbon stick or some other character of electrode.
A circumferentially extending rib or collar 21 is provided on the shell 14 a point slightly inwardly from the ope end of the shell. A renewable cap 22 is f0 med with a concaved surface 23 at one end, while its opposite end is formed with a threaded socket in which the opposite threaded end of the shell 14 is disposable. A washer 24 is inter-1 posed between the collar 21 and the opposing, end of the cap 22, so that by threading the latter inwardly on the shell 14, the washer '1100 net structure 15' is secured.

Now referring to Figures 4, 5 and 6, a modified form of the invention is disclosed, and has reference to a water-cooled type of terminal post. This form consists of an elongated shell 14' to one end of which a bon- A suitable con struction 16 permits the attachment of the usual conductor wire. A water inlet pipe 18 extends into the shell 14, through the bonnet structure 15 and terminates exteriorly of the opposite end of the said shell.
A bushing 17 is threaded and provided with a threaded nipple extension 19, engageable within the threaded end of the shell 14. The Water inlet pipe 18 terminates slightly inwardly from the outer end of the bushing 17 when the latter is secured to the shell. The shell is formed with a collar or circumferentially extending rib 21, against which a Washer 24 of suitable conductive material is engageable.
A renewable contact cap 22 is formed at one end with a concavity 23"while its opposite end is formed with a socket 25, this socket being formed with threads 26 at a point adjacent its inner end. The cap 22' is threa'dable over the bushing 17 for engagement against the washer 24:. -A collar 26 is interposed between the inner side of the socketed end portion ofthe cap 22, and the adjacent portion of the shell 14 in the manner shown 1n Fig.4.
The bushing 17 and its nipple extension 19 are to be manufactured of an asbestos or lava composition to withstand and resist any heat tending to pass between the outer end of the cap 21 and the shell 14'.
Thls latter form of the invention, is espec ally adapted for use in furnaces producing an unusually high speed of heat. Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new is 1. In a water-cooled terminal post for electro-heating elements comprising, a hollowv member of current conducting material open at one end and internally threaded at said open end, an externally threaded bushing provided with a threaded nipple extension, said nipple extension being engageable within the threaded open end of the hollow memher, and a contact cup having an internally threaded socket for engagement over the said threaded bushing.
2. In a water-cooled terminal post for electro-heating elements comprising, a hollow member of current conducting material open at one end and internally threaded at said open end, an externally threaded bushing provided with a threaded nipple extension, said nipple extension being engageable within the threaded open end of the hollow member, a contact cup having an internally threaded socket for engagement over the said threaded bushing, and means to limit the inward movement of said cap on the hollow member.
3. In a water-cooled terminal post for electro-heating elements comprising, a hollow member of current conducting material open at one end and internally threaded at said open end, an externally threaded bushing provided with a threaded nipple extension, 7
