ILL.
\lllllllllllllllll? J gz dry/ 223 flagazp e/ Patented Oct. 15 1929 UNITED TATES JOHN W. MILLER AND EDWARD R. SPIEGEL, DALLAS, TEXAS PAPER WEIGHT Application filed February 21, 1929. Serial No. 341,699.
This invention appertains to new and useful improvements 1n paper weights and 1n such connection the invention relates more particularly to a paper weight having a time 5 recording indicator on its face.
, The primary object of the invention is to provide a time recording paper weight having a revolvable disk on its face with indicating means provided to register with numerals placed on the stationary portion of the paper weight for designating the hour or portion of which the user intends to return.
Another object of the invention is the pro vision of a time recording paper weight that will serve as an advertising medium as well as being of great utility, especially around an otfice where considerable papers are exposed on a desk, table, etc.
A further object of the invention is to provide a device embodying all of the aforementioned features that may be manufactured and sold at anominal cost, provide a novel and effective advertising medium, and also be most efiicient for the purposes intended.
Further reference will be made herein to the foregoing and other features of the invention, which will be more particularly pointed out.
In the following specification an exemplification of the invention is set forth and this is illustrated in the accompanying drawings in which 2 Fig. 1 is a top plan view of a time recording paper weight, constructed iii-accordance with our invention, and
Fig. 2 is a cross-sectional view, taken on the line 2-2 of Fig. 1.
In the drawings, employing like characters of reference for corresponding parts throughout, the reference numeral 10 designates a ciring stem 17 extending through the cover and disk down into the inside of the base member, said stem having a squared portion 18 fitting a similar opening in the disk 12. A couple of metal washers 19 have an intermediate rubber washer 20 disposed between them and a cotter key 21 hearing underneath the lower washer 19 frictionally holds the before described parts together. A suitable filling 20 preferably of plastic material, such as paper pulp,is placed in the inner portion of the base 10 and a felt bottom 22 may be suitably fixed to the base and filling for preventing any scratches or mars that the paper weight may cause a desk or the like.
Numerals 28 are suitably placed on the rim 10 of the base member. The numerals range from one (1) to twelve (12) in other words a sufficient amount of numerals to represent each hour of a full day. It is obvious that when the user leaves his office the disk carrying the arrow 14 may be turned to the approximate hour or portion of which he expects to return.
Manifestly, various changes in the size and shape of the different parts, as well as modifications and alterations. may be made within the scope of the appended claims.
What we claim, is:
1. A time recording paper weight, comprising a base having a depending flange and its top provided with characters thereon and a countersunk recess, a movable disk provided with a knob having a shank extending therethrough and an indicator on the disk to register with said characters, and means upon the shank engaging the under face of the base member to retain the disk thereon.
2. A paper weight constructed as defined by claim 1, and a filler disposed within the flange. of the base member.
3. A device of the character described, co1nprising a circular base member, said base member having a concentric countersunk recess, a revolvable circular disk set in the countersunk recess, said disk having an indicating arrow and the word In suitably printed thereon, a knurled knob having a depending stem which is provided with a squared portion to fit a similar opening in the revolvable disk, suitable retaining means at the lower portion of the stem, a suitable filling material in the base member having a cut out portion around the stem of the knob and component parts, and a circular felt bottom glued underneath the filling and base memher.
4. A paper Weight constructed as defined by claim 1, said engaging means including a 19 yielding Washer disposed to exert a frictional tension upon said disk.
5. A time recording paper Weight comprising a base having a depending flange and its top provided With characters thereon, a mov- 15 able disk provided With a knob having a shank extending through the base and an indicator on the disk to register with said characters, and yielding friction means secured upon the shank to engage the under 20 face of the base and retain the disk thereon.
In testimony whereof We afiix our signatures. V
' JOHN W. MILLER.
EDWARD R. SPIEGEL.
